Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

I tapped out on this game awhile ago but my god, is it wrong to say I was expecting more?

I don't want to sound entitled or whatever the hell the buzzword of the day is.

This game is going to be a mess isn't it.

I guess this is the final project of the pre-got-their-shit-together Square. Hopefully KH3 lies on the other side of that divide, clearly Dragon Quest does.

What if "buzzword" is the buzzword of the day?

Don't see why it would be wrong to say you were expecting more, but if you've already decided against the game why bother expecting anything?

I still have this slated to release 2018.
You want to know something even crazier than what is happening here?
What do you think Square's release pattern means for Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
That shit is not coming out this generation.

The worse part is thinking FF7's development is dictated by FF15's cluster feck. Especially if its outsourced and using middleware as we suspect.

Heh, I expect FF7re to cause another meltdown as they announce design, gameplay, and story changes.

Imagine if they add Genesis.......God please no

Nomura/Nojima will add and expand with compilation stuff along with other things. i think anyone expecting anything else would be fooling themselves.

I don't have an issue with that, atleast Nomura was clear from the start the direction they were taking the project.

Driver-san gone too.

NOCTIS OUJI!!!!!!!

*edit* Beaten :(

Wait, where was it confirmed the final game won't have swimming?
AFAIK, it wasn't. If I remember right though, they said they were trying to get it into the game, but who knows where that will end up.

Also, I know it can seem ridiculous to witness "meltdowns" over things that seem trivial, like the Regis redesign, but it stems more from the fact that Square Enix has been ripping this bandaid off slowly ever since the re-reveal.

First we get this shot in the arm that not only is Versus XIII, a project thought dead, still alive, but it's now a next-gen title being given the title of a mainline Final Fantasy game. (!)

And then "Oh, Nomura's no longer directing."

And then "Oh, the combat is no longer the fast action system they were going for before."

And then "Oh, the story has been changed."

And then "Oh, Stella is no longer a character"

and so on.

I don't think these things individually or collectively doom the game, by any means, but we keep getting these updates every few months were it's like "Now, it's even less like what you were initially excited about!"

Someone named mush on twitter posted that the time that's elapsed since the announcement of Versus XIII until now is the same amount of time that elapsed between FF1 and FF7...damn

I had this really long semi-angry rant about how you guys were overreacting, but I decided against posting it. All I'll say instead is that I think people might be overreacting here. I understand that changes to things that already seem great suck and the game has been in development for what feels like eternity, but is there no reason to give Tabata and his team the benefit of the doubt here?

I just hope others here are questioning the validity of what messages others are posting regarding this instead of letting it all roll into a big ball of hate for a guy who I feel doesn't deserve it. Especially not .gif memes calling him trash, anyway.

The meltdowns over this are embarrassing, really.

FFvXIII ceased to exist sometime mid 2012 when it changed platforms and because FFXV.

Mass Effect 3 launched in March 2012 and still delivered plenty of DLC months after that.

You're telling me that Mass Effect Andromeda (a humongous triple-A RPG), which started being developed from scratch after ME3, may launch before FFXV?

FFXV may have started development proper in 2012 but it had 7 years worth of pre production at its disposal and thus didn't start from scratch. They had some characters, some settings, some scenarios, some story and even some graphics and animation! They should've hit the ground running in 2012, not stumble.

Why is Square so pathetically slow at releasing in house console RPGs???

Nojima says the scenario is 80% complete.

Where was that said? As far as i know Nojima is working on FF7r now, and has nothing to do with FF15 at all along with Nomura.

From what i've heard Nojima is only credited with the original story base from versus, which we know they already completed and has been changed significantly by Tabata

Saori Itamuro is the actual script writer of 15 and has been since it changed hands.

Oh, man, Square, it might have been better to take Old Yeller out back than drag it out like this. That being said, I so want FFXV to be good, though, even after all the changes. It's just that it's a lot of balls to be juggling, in an incredibly ambitious game, no less. I hope it comes together, I really do.

...I've slept on it, though, and I'm still not over the loss of DILF!Regis. Goddamnit.

It's a shame as the changes from Versus -> XV become more apparent, I feel like Tabata stories tend to take plot >>>>>> character, whereas Nomura goes character >>> plot, whilst still supporting the latter. Even though we only had a few minutes worth of footage of Versus, we got strong family dynamics between Regis/Noctis (genuine character interactions, that weren't just set-pieces), and a lot of interesting build-up between Stella/Noctis, alongside interesting world-building. I know what we've gotten of XV is only equivalent of teasers, but you can see the difference in what each director prioritises. (Still, I did think lil' Noctis shoving Regis away was a really lovely touch.)

XV's development is the stuff of satire.

To everyone saying they should cancel the game, can they even do that? See, what I'm saying is, so what if they cancel this game? Does that mean SE will skip straight to FF16? There still needs to be an FF15. So they scrape this game altogether and start from scratch, it would still have the FF15 name attached to it. I wonder if they do that, there would still be a negative connotation attached to the title?

I think the theory there (although I disagree) is that the next FF mainline is already in development and will replace the current 15. Not going to happen.

I agree completely. I don't think they've reached the point where I tap out yet, but I wish their campaign for this was less "the Versus XIII you've been waiting for is finally coming don't worry!!" and just be honest about what the game really is.

If she is a love interest, that already changes what Nomura originally had in store. He didn't intend Stella to be Noctis's romantic interest. I recall him saying something about their relationship was to be something more akin to "close friends"and that Versus was not going to focus on a romance sub-plot. I'm not against romance, if done right. I AM against shoehorned romance just to cater to audience members that go, "Awwww... cute couple! Lovey dovey dovey!!!".
I couldn't agree more. When a romance is just added as part of an obligatory checklist, I hate it. It's almost always poorly done and hokey, too.

I'm sad that it seemed like Nomura was gonna do something unique with his male and female leads, and now it seems like just another cookie cutter couple.

This is pretty much how I feel. Add to that the fact that I don't like any of Tabata's previous games and don't trust him as a director.
I still want to believe this game will be good and I really want to like it, but so far the marketing for this has been a mess. I hope they get their shit together sometime next year because it's not looking good.

But let's all be honest with ourselves...if we're all posting in this thread and the game gets good reviews (or even mediocre reviews), we're all playing it.

I haven't been following this game at all.

Can someone give me a summary of why people are freaking out today?

1.No release window (which i can agree with them on, they should give a window).
2.Didnt show alot.
3.They've changed things from Versus (We've known Nomura was gone from a year ago, so this shouldnt even be a surprise).
4. People who dont follow this game closely at all think that development of this game started 9 years ago when its only been 3.

That's basically the main points, however the thing that people keep missing is that Square Enix is not starting a marketing campaign for a game that is 2 years away, as Kagari has pointed out multiple times, a typical Final Fantasy marketing campaign is about 12 months long. (meaning this would be coming out around aug-sep of 2016)

Thanks. So just overreaction basically?

Glad I haven't been paying attention. I told myself I'd ignore most news and media until there's a release in sight
