Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

Stella was named what she was for reasons particular to Versus XIII. Likewise, Luna was named what she was for reasons particular to FFXV. I applaud them for changing her name especially when her character is radically different. It only makes sense.

Absolutely.

I think people would actually be less upset if they would have kept the name the same.

Well, Nomura had them running in the original Versus build and so I guess there is that expectation.

Wasn't this when Versus had a world map like previous linear Final Fantasy games? Technically it isn't anywhere near as challenging as having to create an airship that flies across a huge open world with cities as large as Accordo and Lucis.

Nomura was probably referring to something like Blue Dragon's airship and worldmap.

My thoughts in regards to the Active Time Report: I literally have no words to say about it other than, they shouldn’t have done it in the first place. Call me a complainer, but nothing meaty came from it (aside from the concept art) and for Tabata/Square Enix to say “stay tuned for more showings!”, “development is not far”, “no airships; might be DLC”, and “can’t talk about it right now”, question after question really pissed me off. It was garbage and a joke, and even the audience was starting to get tired of it. I like Tabata, and I thought FFXV was finally on the right track to getting this pushed out when he took over, but he’s not doing any better than Nomura. Please do better at TGS or else I’ll have no faith in this game anymore. The grade that I would give it is 1 out of 10.

For the trailer, I watched it a couple of times and took down some notes on what I thought in case anyone is interested. Wish we had a bar to hide text in case, some might consider it spam...

“15 years ago” line - This probably refers to the beginning, or at least when the war started between Lucis and Niflheim (before the treaty was declared), since that’s primarily the background for the game. It also explains why Regis has a sword in hand, and showings of kiddie Noctis/Luna at the time.— Gosh the war was that long?

Confrontation between Luna and the Armor guy - He’s definitely from Niflheim because I saw the dragon emblem that was purposely shown on the back of his armor. But, the question is: who is he? Naturally, they had to use the dark to cover his face, but if I had to take a guess on who he is, I would say he’s Idola Aldercapt because who else would it be? I know he’s suppose to be old, but this was more of a flashback trailer than of what’s to come in the future. I thought it might’ve been the king/emperor from Solheim because of the nose, but the armor doesn’t fit and his signia is suppose to resemble Ifrit. Not to mention that I can’t see him being that aggressive to Luna. Now as to where that scene took place, I would say it occurs when Tenebrae was attacked. Now, I don’t think Idola’s going to harm her, but I believe he will most likely use her to achieve his goals such as luring Noctis away from Lucis by sending him to Tenebrae making it easier to take over.

Luna - I’m going to go out on a limb and say that she’s going to be in on this plan to take over Lucis which is the reason why she’s there, while Noctis is going to Tenebrae. She’ll be used, but once she flees to Altissia and Idola follows by attacking the city; maybe that’s when she hits her breaking point and fights back by summoning Leviathan. I don’t think she’s a villain or will be fighting against Noctis, but I think her actions in the beginning will be something that we might consider to be off putting, even though she’s doing whatever it takes to defend her homeland.

Street scene: Looks like the soldiers are in Lucis because of the bridge (also present in the demo artwork) that I saw near the car inspection at 0:46. Really creepy btw. Looks like they’re looking for Noctis or any potential loyalists for the Caelum family.

Kiddie Noctis: Cute as hell!

Regis/Noctis: That scene when Regis was crying was pretty heartbreaking. Maybe the tag line “the father could but hold him and mourn his destiny” means that Regis knows that he’s going to die and knows that his son will have to carry his father’s burden.

Silhouette shadows: I really want to say that these “things” resemble Lucis knights from previous eras because of the shadow on the right; however, the shadow on the left looks huge, so I’m not sure. Tabata did confirm that they’re not eidolons though. As for the middle one, I don’t know who that could be. It looked like a woman. WHY IS EVERYTHING A MYSTERY?! FFS!

Music: Despite the way this trailer was made, Yoko Shimomura is a goddess once again. The trailer song was superb and it really shows on how serious this game will be. Soundtrack day 0!

“Now the son rises—the dawn of a new king”— This part makes me upset because back in 2011 I believe, Regis states to a mysterious figure that he wants to be the last king. This is a complete change from what Nomura had. It just leads me to believe that they’ve changed more than what they’re leading on. The mafia theme is gone, Prompto’s backstory has changed, and Regis looks like his brother/uncle which leads me to believe that he might be gone.

Highlights of trailer
+ Music
+ In game graphics are stunning
+ The serious vibe was a nice change of pace
+ The relationship between Regis and Noctis
- No story details such as backgrounds, etc./cutscenes (didn’t even continue from the demo ending)
- No reveals of who the mysterious characters are
- Not properly introducing Luna to quell the “zomgLunaisweakugh!”
- Although cute, there was no need to spend ¾ of your trailer time on a hugging scene. Nope. Sorry there wasn’t.
- Nothing about magic in the game
- No prince Niflheim!!!!! They had better not take him out of the game!
- No release year

Grade for trailer: 4/10

Probably. Even though its basically a different character, atleast we'd have known there was stability there, some consistency in regards to keeping things intact. But now the father is completely different, Stella is dead and it just seems like they have a substantial amount not pinned down at all

It's just a name though. I know that can also be used to defend the changes, but why not avoid the outrage?

I think people in charge of the scenario are more concerned with thematic relevance than fan outrage. I dunno, I dislike the mix of Norse and Latin with Luna's full name but appreciate the reasoning behind a name change more.

I guess, but I don't think they have any polished battle gameplay we haven't already seen in Duscae. Still cool to see Mal, and I got a sympathetic chuckle out of the party wipe.

Yea Mal was cool and ending with party wipe was fun.

I just feel they weren't really 'ready' to kickoff their full promotion at gamescom. They had short story teaser with not much info, filled their fan events with bunch of concept arts, ATR was bunch of non-answer Q&A and Visual Novel story telling with very short unpolished gameplay at the end.

Anyway, now that we know how everything looks when Noctis summons, I can only assume that Luna is probably summoning here with the same particle effects.

Probably summoning Leviathan.

That's my guess -- I'd sort of assumed Leviathan had been summoned to protect Accordo.

Well, this I can't really argue with. I liked the trailer, but ATR felt very thrown together.

I don't know. With tons of people building their hype and expectation for 7/8 years regarding Stella, anything that's even slightly out of that expectation will cause riots like we are seeing now.

Considering what they are doing with Luna, I can't really blame them.

Then we're going to circle back to Wan's quote saying that even Noruma can't follow his own vision without problem. It's nice to want a lot of things but the important part is the execution. Can Noruma executed his vision on time and on budget? Square clearly did not think so. So a 'Noruma game' to me is meaningless at this point.

Again I'll say this: Noruma did not elaborate on Stella in the re-branding of 2013. All we know for sure is that he changed her design to make her more 'cute'. How can you be sure that the 'We know Stella was a fighter, it was a clear love/rivalry meant to be almost as if they were equals, their love was a more secretive thing as well.' is still intact when he clearly been messing around with the character: (As a side note- Notics and Stella was never confirmed to be in a romantic relationship)

As for Luna: There are literally less than 20 secs footage of her, of which she wasn't even the focus. Being arrange marriage to Notics doesn't actually mean anything regarding her character - Ashe from 12 was suppose to have a political marriage as well and she's no where near being a weak damsel in distress.

But that doesn't mean he was a bad director it was just a big game, like I said even Kojima takes his time and pisses off the higher ups because of such. Don't rush an artist, but all the higher ups ever care about is money. Look how Konami blew up.
Nomura even admitted that the game would take longer to make because he always had more in mind to add but if it would be too much he would save it for a sequel. So sure it would have taken a while.

We know Stella was a fighter from the Versus XIII trailer and that the story hadn't changed in XV when he was Director - http://www.novacrystallis.com/2013/...iis-story-remains-intact-in-final-fantasy-xv/

We have without a doubt seen more footage of Stella than Luna.
We have actually seen Noctis and Stella interact in different situations.
Which is why we have a basis for Stella and nothing really for Luna as of yet.

Regis/Noctis: That scene when Regis was crying was pretty heartbreaking. Maybe the tag line “the father could but hold him and mourn his destiny” means that Regis knows that he’s going to die and knows that his son will have to carry his father’s burden.

I found that part pretty sad as well. Sure, the trailer was boring overall, but I found that tear to be pretty powerful. Regis is what Tidus wanted Jecht to be like.

From February the game has gone from 60% complete to 65% complete. 5% in 6 months, so a 2016 release is extremely unlikely.

That means absolutely nothing. Tabata said it might take 6 months to go from 60-65%, but it might only take 1 month to get from 70-75%. The % means nothing. He's just telling you how much of the game is currently done, hes not telling you how much longer its going to take. (even though the marketing campaign should give you a pretty good idea).

Ok we're really been going around in circles so I'll try to summaries this a clearly as I can:

1) Yes Noruma said that the Versus story doesn't change when it shift to XV but he didn't actually said that Versus' story have remained the same during all those 7 years of teasing and drip feeding information to us. Everything shown in the 2013 trailer was radically different to the 2011 trailer for example.

2) If you agree that we have nothing as a basic for Luna then could we agree that it's nonsense to start comparing Stella to Luna right now like what many are doing now in this thread.

Lol at some people thinking this will be out in 2016.

They haven't even name some characters yet!

They never outright said "we don't have a name for her." They just stated what they call her "in the office." It could be a joke, it could be a lie, it could mean many things.

But her not having a name is highly unlikely. Tabata stated she's a very important character.

Worst-case scenario they just need to add in a name. I really think people are blowing this out of proportion.

Holy shit I can't believe I missed this whole thread.

What's the general gist of things? People are disappointed in the FFXV showing?

More than disliking it, they are pretty much doing completely unnecessary and useless things now that will accomplish nothing beyond delaying development further.

So yeah, people are pretty pissed.

Regis for daddy of the century! ;A; I thought about him crying though and also believe that he could be sad because he knows something devastating will happen to Noctis.

Let me take a shot at that:

Black haired woman... given just a fantasy name off the top of my head.... Aldea Leander. More FFXV/Latin-ish.... Maxima Dea Lumen. Something a little old school FF sounding(circa FFV and FFVI).... Sylvia Gershalzim. Names are easy. Especially if you don't dwell on the significance much. I mean, I long for the days where a hero could be called "Butz". No deep thought going into the inner symbolism of what a hero's name means and how it reflects their persona.

Her name is Nullum Nolem.

There was incredible symbolism for his name. He enjoyed the female posterior, Lenna's and Farris'. More like Harem Fantasy, amiright?

Joking aside, It amazes me that they don't have a name for her. I would imagine if she was important enough to show in previous trailers, that she at least has a name and set role. So it just sounds like they have a character design that they have to slot into a role eventually.
