What maybe be Etro:

Faces look similar.

Personally I really can't tell because it was by different artists....and I usually can't recognize Amano's characters that well..

Isn't she still in the logo. Though?

Well other then the cover :P

Or if that was Etro in that painting at the end of the demo.

They might have just changed her name.

Maybe something happened with the voice actor?

I don't know

Um... the damn demo ending? She's in the painting front and center.

Pls continue spreading more misinformation gaf.

my mistake! not spreading misinformation. I did say "perhaps" :p

Yeah, the thing that gets to me is how Tabata keeps saying FFXV is a different game than Versus XIII when that clearly wasn't the case until last year. The reveal trailer for FFXV showed that it was absolutely the same game as Versus when Nomura was still directing the game. I don't think my personal issue stems from FFXV being a different game than Versus XIII so much as it stems from the current FFXV being completely different from the FFXV that was shown off 2 years ago. It feels to me that the completed game will have very little in common with the 2013 reveal trailer.

Well to be fair, most of what was shown 2 years ago was only target render and not really a working game.

Didn't the 2013 already show them fighting in Accordo instead of the Lucis invasion, though? Sure, it might not have been a complete reboot yet, but major changes were probably happening already.

I meant regarding the story and characters more than the gameplay.

The fight in Accordo was never meant to replace the invasion of Insomnia. They were planned to happen during different points in the game.

That's what some people are saying. The reveal trailer was clearly made before they really took stock of the project and changed this to suit a mainline FF. would have been better to reveal it e3 2014 and the lack of info that year probably shows the changing that went on.

When has a mainline offline FF game allowed costume changes? Especially the post-VI era FF's.

Pretty sure VIII had characters wearing different outfits during certain events. More importantly, XV needs costume changes more than any previous entries because everyone right now dress and look very similar to one another. Too little diversity.

At the very least, I hope the section with Noctis in a dark parking lot hiding from a Behemoth is still in.

Tabata referred to it during an interview several months ago. Elements like that will likely be still in, especially when we have a stealth mechanic in this game with the enemies' FOV.

EDIT: I'd like to link the interview, but I can't find it. The keywords to search for it aren't exactly specific.

VIII had mandatory costume changes as part of the story. That's different. And IIRC, all it was, was Squall changing from his SeeD uniform to his regular outfit, to the Ballroom outfit, then back to his regular outfit. All in the first 3 or so hours of the game. Unless you count the portion with
Squall and Rinoa wearing a space suit
as a costume change as well.

Yeah the only FFs that allow costume changes are the ones with Jobs.

It would be pretty cool if Noctis, perhaps in the third act, ascends the throne as King and gets a costume that is somewhere between Regis' new outfit and his Versus XIII costume.

I'm fairly sure they reused some assets and then replicated others in the new engine, but it sure doesn't seem like they used anything from vs

Along with the aforementioned issues with rigging character models, texturing and lighting is completely different when using a PBR model, which the old engine did not use. They may be reusing level geometry and art as well as using the old assets as reference, but these thing will have been remade.

Unless you have proof of that, I will go by the interview he did with Famitsu, stating thing's they kept and adapted in luminous from Versus. They kept the battle system, no where in that does it say they remade thing's from scratch.

If so that's very unprofessional. Naoki Yoshida used to design Dragon Quest arcade games before he was given FFXIV. I don't know if he was even a huge fan of the FF series. Yet he did a great job salvaging a project that wasn't his.

I think it stands with I said earlier, that some directors are up to the task and CAN do that, while others don't have that ability. Most leaders are fair, fewer are good, while rarest are great. Tabata MIGHT pull through with this one(at least see it through where others might've dropped out), but I don't think he is AAA FF material. He probably works his best on smaller titles. We'll have to wait and see. It looks like, when given the keys to the FF kingdom, it shows if you got the strength to handle such an undertaking, or if you just can't handle it at all.

I don't know

Don't help that most FF goddesses tend to look similarly(partially thanks to Amano's style):

Wispy flowing garments, halo-like rings and on occasion, angelic wings. The logo's depiction of Etro fits in with that, to the point that you could just very well call her by another name(if you change her role in the story) and no one would care considering she looks like a "FF Goddess".

I'd be ok with that. Especially since they mentioned this "dawn of a new king" with the new trailer. I mean, he's the prince, so obviously he would sooner or later become the king, but I think this is the first time they actually openly talked about Noctis as a king, isn't it? Always assumed it meant the Lucis royal line would end with Regis, and Noctis would never have a chance to ascend to the throne.

All you need to do is look back to Versus 13 trailers to see the combat is obviously changed from KH style chaining combo's to a more slower paced RPG ish system.

I think you have it backwards. It was a slower action based combat akin to Crisis Core, with combos, but was made fast and more fluid when putting it to Luminous. They said in the article changes they improved on to the battle system. They kept it in the beginning then made changes it.

The running animation even looks like they kept some of that. The environments are even the same environment's seen in the new FF VX trailers just made with the Luminous engine.

I can't really see what your describing.

Going on a tangent here as I'm not talking about carrying over assets and animations...

Versus XIII from January 2011 looked slower. The current FFXV actually looks faster, and when you add the Warp mechanic in things are even more fat.

How can you say with a straight face that this is faster than what we have now?

Nomura had said that FFXV was going to be a slower, realistic and grounded version of the base KH gameplay. While what we have now isn't by Nomura, Noctis' speed and the way he plays (without weapon switching) is very similar to what we saw in E3 2013.

I understand that the lack of female characters is unfortunate, but even if I don't like them that much, current characters are the more palatable since...well, XII.

XIII trilogy designs (character and cloth design) was pretty bad. This is an improvement.

I have to disagree completely.

Lightning/Fang/Sazh all had cool designs and were likeable characters (we won't talk about Vanille/Hope/Snow).

Conversely, absolutely no character I found in Duscae was likeable in my eyes. They looked like a nu-metal boyband stuck in the early 2000's and beyond Prompto they acted like it too (Prompto looked like he ran backwards through a Hot Topic and fell out the other side). I won't even get started on Cindy/Cidney. Ugh. Awful.

I rest my case.

resting your case?

you're comparing a main character to NPC.

Neither FF13 or FF15 look particularly subtle or dignified with their character design but that's precisely the point! Pandering is pandering, whether it's to male or female audience, and is often equally off-putting.
