Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Active Time Report - CNN reporting live from disaster scene

Just wondering, how would that actually work, though? If you mash the buttons in KH, it's still going to go through a certain set of animations.

Ravage does suck, but I dunno what the solution would be.

In the air for KH you attack like 5 times at most by end game because of air combo pluses stacking and other skills change up the basic animation.

If you are in the Air in XV and it looks anything like E3 gameplay, what I assume I'm seeing is 3 different animations repeating as Noctis warps while sticking onto a target as he attacks and it's flashy. If he could automatically warp around a target while reusing these animations I think I'd be satisfied (warping can be automated, Combo pressing should not be), but I think there will be more than that because remember he was just using a sword. We can use other weapons in the air as well so expect way more flash/variety.

The problem was it wasn't running on console :(. Also I didn't mean help in terms of gameplay.

All Avalanche is really there for is to help with level streaming, not mechanics. Square can handle the combat themselves, the problem is technical. When they had free warping, Noctis was moving too fast and the level wasn't loading fast enough on console to keep up. This limited Noctis' movement a lot. Avalanche has mastered level streaming that is fast enough to keep up with Noctis as evidenced by how free Rico's movements are in JC3.

Ah, I see what you mean yeah they can surely use help in that department. Also can Avalanche even help Square with the puzzle that is Luminous?

Makes sense, Luminous 1.0 was more of a Maya plugin for pretty real time graphics than a games engine. He'll do well just focusing on CG.

He, I actually really like that theory, Square used Softimage XSI and I think at that time (2010?) Softimage had problems with the DirectX10 Viewport Renderer, so Luminos 1.0 might have been just Squares own custom Viewport Renderer. And if we go a step further, when the Senior Technical Artist explained the Management what Luminous is and why his department is spending Budget on that, it all went to a big misunderstanding and Luminous was suddenly a Game Engine :P

Didn't they say free warping was removed because it was too easy to bug out? It strikes me as a little bizarre because if you're in combat mode in Duscae you can already warp strike in essentially any horizontal direction even if it's not towards an enemy or preset object. By bugging out I assumed that meant something like getting caught in objects.

You'd think if that was such a problem we couldn't free warp at all cause I'm sure you could recreate that edge case even in a battle.

The only thing I could think of that would be exceptionally problematic is level streaming as, at least in Duscae, it seems contingent on Noctis not moving too fast.

Maybe there were some artificial barriers you could clip through as well? Like those bushes you see towards the north side of the map. It should be nothing a simple raycast couldn't check for. I know that for example, when you warp to an enemy, you can warp through obstacles no problem, but you shouldn't be able to do that when free warping.

old Regis fashion sense was on poinT.

I'm so pressed about this change, ugh.

I have to disagree completely.

Lightning/Fang/Sazh all had cool designs and were likeable characters (we won't talk about Vanille/Hope/Snow).

Conversely, absolutely no character I found in Duscae was likeable in my eyes. They looked like a nu-metal boyband stuck in the early 2000's and beyond Prompto they acted like it too (Prompto looked like he ran backwards through a Hot Topic and fell out the other side). I won't even get started on Cindy/Cidney. Ugh. Awful.

or

I rest my case.
Hey. Leave Snow alone. You can shit on his FFXIII-2 design but he looked hot in FFXIII

Didn't realize we're getting a tech demo to play with lol.

Maybe the same demo they showed when they were in the city and random enemies popped up and at that point you can use magic. Either way I'm excited for it.

Old regis looks like something out of astro boy. New regis is many times more appealing and aesthetically consistent with XV's art direction.

He looks like a Ned Stark cosplayer who walked out of Comic Con.
These overdone armors are just too excessively eclectic when put next to modern cars and skyscrapers.

Ur argument was shit and it got shot down. There is no saving face. You havent even seen the whole ffxv cast... Chill.

Lol nothing got shut down - it's blatantly obvious they are trying to cater to a weak fashion scene in Japan that was overdone by 2004 in the U.S. Nothing to chill about - my care level for FFXV died once I played Duscae.

FFXIII main character design >>>>>>>>>>> FFXV. Plain and simple.

Hey to each their own ;)

I think putting fantasy-like armour and sword beside that car perfectly depicted the contrast between fantasy and reality.

Whether you like how he looks or not is another matter altogether. For the themes of this game, I think it portrayed that nicely.

Old Regis was dapper as fuck. Goddamn. New Regis has a more world weary look to him "I've seen some shit" and all that. I kinda like the new design, but that old design was really neat.

Consistent with the art direction? You realize that the majority of what we've seen has had a modern aesthetic, right? The invading army is the exception, and even then, it's not universally applied.

Ned stark looks like dark ages lord. New regis atire is more aesthetically aligned with the renaissance era with all the intricate details and "designed" feel that it has with gold orniments and cloth details. Game of thrones stuff is crude and simple... New regis looks nothing like it.

Old Regis fit the modern "fantasy based on reality" way better. Monarchs nowadays wear suits and modern clothes. Even the Emperor of Japan. The Queen of England is basically the only modern monarch who still wears a crown and trad clothes.

The constrast looked better when they were wearing suits while using magic and swords.

Do you know what regalia and battalion attire looks like for the kingdom of Lucis? Because thats what it looks like Regis is wearing.

Do you? You said it's consistent with the art direction, that means stuff we've already been shown.

They probably should have advertised the Gamescom trailer before the event as a "teaser trailer to start introducing the story." People might not have been as mad about it then. Especially since he said they are going to start releasing story information now, that also probably would have also calmed some of the people freaking out about the development. This was all one big PR disaster, hopefully through TGS and PSX or Jump Festa in December they can really begin to clear this stuff up to calm people down.

ur missing my point.
its black... Maybe regis' day to day clothing is a doublebreasted pin striped suit... These clothes are probably battle armor.

And i was talking more in line of regis' face and hair... His face structure and overall design is more consistent with other character models. The old regis looks bubbly and cartoony.

He looks out of place in the modern city of Insomnia. And generically "kingly" to boot. Not only that, but he can use the magic of the crystals to fight, so why does he need armor?

As someone pointed out earlier in this thread IIRC, Lucian knights didn't wear armor because it wasn't going to protect them against their enemies guns, and their enemies wore armor because the Lucians were sword summoners.

Taste is not plain and simple, as you eventually come to realize in the same thread.

It doesn't look like armor... It looks like a large coat with metallic shoulder pads.

It even looks like a wizard's battle cloathing almost.

Well yeah - i strongly agree and it irritates me. Now it's like "HEY LOOK I'M A KING".

Regis Stark.

Winter is Coming - with no release date lolz.

You have a point, but his in-game model is less Starky-generic-Western than this concept art is. I think it's actually about half way between the original and Sean Bean.
