Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

I enjoyed the game, but the strings of brilliance you can see throughout the game that just never were expanded on (due to whatever reason) is just sad.

They had (and to an extent have) a solid world and baseline story...They just didn't execute on it for shit...expect the "bros." But even then, they could have done more.

EDIT: and ya know...one of the most accurate "bro" part (and it was not really focused on in the game) was when you get back to World of Ruin and Talcot says...Yeah, they pretty much fight alone most of the time, but they do fight together from time to time.

This is EXACTLY how bros are from your youth in my experience. Thinking of my own bros, it felt exactly right. While all of us are off doing our own thing (and successful), we do get together and it feels exactly the same. Almost like a day hadn't passed since the last time the group was fully together.

Im not sure if it was on purpose or not, but it was exceedingly good IMO.

It'd be nice if the dlc featured an epilogue scene for each bro, that way the alive or dead argument could officially be settled.

Have a scene of Gladio with his new wife (Cindy?), a scene of Ignis embarking on a quest to discover his final recipeh, and a scene of Prompto jealously stalking Gladio and Cindy while snapping pics. :D

The worldmap is honestly huge but felt small because of the lack of variety in locations :

I know where you're comming from with this feeling. But I actually think the world has more variety then it first seems.
It doesn't have the typical extreme locations like snowfields or deserts. But if you go from 1 location some meters to another location, you will notice how the environement slightly changes with different fauna, bushes/tree and stone structures.
So there are places that are a bit more forest-y, more swamp-y, more tropical, more alpine, more desert-y or more barren and so on with more in between-things
You will not realise it if you don't watch out. I myself thought it neat because it made the world believable for me.
But I'm exciting to see the snowfields in Prompto's DLC :P

Finished the story last night and loved the little changes to the game after you beat it. I was ridiculously overpowered and had decent weapons and accessories so it wasn't too much of a challenge but that's not a problem for me.

I have some issues obviously but nothing that i couldn't work around or get over. I do hope they either fix the camera logic or work on better foliage because if i'm going to be staring at trees during a fight at least make it look nice, SE! :)

Quick question while i gather my thoughts and catch up on the thread as i've been avoiding FFXV threads for weeks now. Which of my saves is the Post-Game save? My latest save slot has a symbol for the thumbnail and loads me into the final mission next to a safe room. Is that correct and from there i just summon Umbra and travel back? I've some fishing to do :)

Just dropping in to say this may be my favorite ending of a Final Fantasy game (maybe barring VII?). I need to find some discussions of it in this thread.

FFXV shits on VII's ending so hard its not even funny. FFVII has a vague as shit (even more than XV's) almost unfinished ending.

I agree. XV has by far the best closure to any mainline FF ever and its one of the best I've seen in any game. It does stumble a lot getting there but they close it so beautifully I almost forgive all the shortcomings.

Also, I've said it before and I'll say it again, but Noctis is my favorite FF protagonist of all time too. I wasnt prepared to like him this much. I was sure he was going to be another broody, angsty, uninteresting douche like Squall but he won me over. Especially by Chapter 14 (he's also the most handsome by far haha).

Yes that is it. You summon Umbra from the safe room and can go back to the other areas.

I see people are a little confused about Prompto from the comments I read here and there. This is how I am to understand his reveal:

Prompto was a human child who was born to be turned into a daemon, and infused with an MT robot.
Ardyn basically explains this during the set of square rooms. MT's start off as human babies, imprinted with a serial code and raised until they are old enough to fight after that I am guessing they are made into daemons and forced into MT shells that we all see.

Prompto is going on about 20 now? So it's possible he was one of the first batch that the lead scientist Verstael himself used his own baby to experiment with, Hojo much? Somehow (shown in dlc probably) he escapes as a young child to lucis before they could alter his DNA in any way.

I doubt every citizen born in Niflhiem gets printed with a serial number that can open top level security doors in the the Zegnautus keep so I don't buy that we're understanding it wrong and that he was just explaining he was a simple Nif born man.

I could still be wrong however; one of the notes implies they didn't KNOW that daemons were human borne which doesn't mesh.... but maybe they were talking about what they think are wild daemons? idk.

FFXV's ending is great but needed a better story to be amazing. I think IX has my favorite ending ever though, heartwrenching but also positive as hell. The GOAT.

XIII-2 wins the award for most hilarious ending.

Ugh, XIII-2s ending is insulting. Sours an awesome game.

I think Crisis Core is probably my favorite of the series.

13-2's ending is amazing. I appreciate when a game has the balls to move away from the "the sun rises on a new day and everything is great now" trope.

Square seems like they're on-board for ironing out the kinks in the story.

There are a few problems with that though. The first of these being that I don't think the problems most people have with the story can be corrected by patching in a few additional cutscenes. There are entire swaths of story missing in this game, including major story events being glossed over, any development for side characters, the backstory of the main characters, etc.

Another problem is that, by the time any of these "story fixes" come around, most people are going to have already completed the story and moved on. I could YouTube the additional scenes, but how is that adding any value/impact to the story? It's just a one-off YouTube video at that point and not viewed in the context of the game. I guess it'll be a nice surprise when I replay the game sometime down the line, which I inevitably do with every Final Fantasy.

Final problem is that it sounds like they want to add a lot of scenes as late-game cu tscenes. One of my biggest problems with the game is that so many things are explained to the player as after-the-fact cut scenes. It would've been nice to learn the bits about Luna/Ravus before Chapter 9 occurred, but instead they're just randomly slapped into a cut scene after the fact? It felt extremely disjointed, and it happened multiple times in the game.

I really enjoyed my time with FFXV, but the execution of the story wasn't a reason why, and I just don't see a way of patching things up after the fact. It kind of sounds like the WB superhero movie excuse - "Buy the director's cut to see our true vision!" Especially since a lot of plot-relevant information is likely to only be available as paid DLC...

What happened to Noctis wanting to sleep all the time? It was in a lot of the prerelease materials but it was also in Brotherhood. I was listening to Too Much Never Enough (which I don't understand why it wasn't used in the game) and it talked about sleeping as well.

The true figure is still hidden in the sleep... Not sure tbh.

I can't believe for the first time ever I actually wanted to go get all of the trophies in a game and to do that I'd have to start a new game and just hope the power of kings trophy would trigger this time.
Going to wait for all the dlc and stuff to come out and start a new game plus I guess.

I've just rewatched the Credits after completing the game and they're different to the pre-end credits i'm sure. I had a look about but couldn't find the original credits but reddit confirms they're different. Since i sorted out my save game confusion i was going to give it a rest but after watching them i want to jump back in and i can't wait for the Carnival later this month.

I've two tickets to the carnival so i assume i'll get different items depending which i use but there's no details yet i'm going to guess?

It even has one of the Florence songs!

Too Much, Too Much, Too Much, Too Much, Too Much!!!

Where do I actually see my carnival tickets? Why are there even tickets? Is there a limited amount of...something...that you can do with these?

Finished the game today, went from Chapter 9 to the end over the last few days. I thought the story was pretty good, nothing amazing but it's probably my favorite mainline FF game as far as the main characters and story go.

There really wasn't anything that stood out to me too much that "needs to be fixed." I even liked how Chapter 13 went. What were the biggest complaints outside of things happening off screen? I actually liked how a lot of that stuff went, since you're following the main group so closely, you wouldn't see everything until you were there for yourself. Things like stumbling across the newspaper and reading that Ravus was executed was a great "oh shit moment"

I totally agree with this. I liked it mostly being you following Noctis. There were a few scenes outside of it but the majority of everything, you were following Noctis. And it's not like you didn't get to finish Ravus off, anyway.

I know there will be bro dlc (I got the season pass) but I liked that even in the main story, when they were gone for whatever reason, it didn't cut to them. The focus remained on Noctis.

The limited time thing is weird. So you won't be able to do those quests and stuff again in the future?

No idea at the moment, the blog page is the only info i have. It may be a one-off event, it may be annual or it may be one of a couple of seasonal events. I've no idea how long it's going to run for either but it does look like it happens in Altissia and is expected mid-late jan.

Me too, but naw that was THE cheapest ending i think ive ever seen in a videogame.

I actually enjoyed that game, but that shit was terrible

prepare for

"Chocobros died"
"Nuh uh"
"Uh huh"
"Nuh uh"

Ad nauseum

Well if Advent Children didn't fucking ruin it, we could still be doing that with FF7 to this day

One of the 14 friends is the old lady that gives you the key to all the bonus dungeons. You have to clear all of them if you want her to show up. I'm pretty sure it makes no difference other than getting some insignificant item though.

Ohhhhhhh.....

XIII-2's ending is praised for being one of few video games ending that actually had the balls to do something that unexpected.

Tabata literally said the ending was purposely left open to interpretation.

First of all, wasn't that a mistranslation where he was only talking about the afterlife scene? Also, even if he decided it was supposed to be left for interpretation, that doesn't just remove all the signs in the game that make it very obvious they were meant to survive. Plus, assuming the translations for that interview were correct, Tabata didn't even know wtf Ifrit's deal was, so I'm not sure you should be taking his opinions on the plot that seriously.

Wait what'd it do?

....exactly what XV, actually.

tell you what's going to happen, and then do it. (except with a "TO BE CONTINUED in another $60 game at some point")

but lets hope they don't continue doing what XIII-2 did, because those extra DLC """""""""""chapters"""""""" were fucking horseshit

Lighting Returns' ending is amazing though:

namely the part where Lightning is in the train and steps out to a brand new world.

Maybe, but they survived the shit show at the crystal ten years earlier with no issues. 10 years worth of experience points later and they should survive the shit show at the Citadel no problem.

Lighting Returns has one of the most corny and nonsensical endings i've ever seen in my life

I mean i didnt play the game so i'm missing a bit of context...but...damn.

Yeah I don't really get how people think they died to a bunch of throwaway mobs.

During the 10-year skip, each of them were split up, doing daemon hunting work in the world of darkness.

For ten years. Makes no sense for them to die. Worst case scenario, they could have just...went inside the citadel

So in KG... Was it ever explained why the Etro painting is there in that scene with Nyx and Luna? I mean.... it is so out of place since that is no longer a theme in the game.

No. It was just there to lure Versus fans, especially since they showed an official screen of that
009-1.jpg

It got me hopeful that XV was gonna still be connected to FNC, since that was one of the few things I thought would remain from Versus.
