Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

Ardyn not having a second form is kind of a bummer. I feel like that's been a thing for most recent games when I think on it. Ah well. It would be cool if there was some secret unlockable boss and ending if you completed something, but that's not likely and would be weird for an FF game.

Sitting on it for a while, I don't think this ending is objectively poor. I think it's going to depend heavily on how well the story cultivates an emotional connection to the characters. Last fight seemed cool, but I'm with several other posters in wishing we had gotten that classic FF normal form->monster form->"true" form final boss sequence.

It does seem like this ending leaves room for some kind of post-ending story, if SE chooses to pursue that route.

The main appeal of the game is going after all those hunts and beasts around, those look like the real meat of the game to me and the monster design in this game is quite awesome I must say.

Well, given how it works in the ending we've seen, it wouldn't really change anything for the story, it would just be a gameplay reward for the player in the form of a secret battle. The ending would still be pretty much the same.

It's possible, but I'm not really expecting it, only hoping, because it would be pretty cool. I REALLY liked the boss battle as it is, but I'm ok with more :P

Oh yes. End-game enemies better be interesting, it's the thing I'm most excited about, without a doubt.

I still can't believe they pulled a titanic wholesale. Like...dude, not what i expected to see at all for the ending of this game!

Heh, ending sequence is modern FF absurdity and flashiness with some hints of classic FF feel good, slightly cheesy scenes.

Wasn't really feeling it and I would've much preferred a "heroes have a decisive battle with a huge monstrosity" final battle in traditional FF fashion (hopefully there's a hidden form or something), but I guess I can see what they did having appeal to certain people.

Either way...glad that this is essentially over. I've had "meh" feelings towards this game for a while now, and I'm glad to see it's pretty much out the door and we'll gradually see a transition to other announced/unannounced projects in their lineup.

I do think the ending is going to be very polarizing but without knowing much of the context yet, I do find it better than XIII's ending because of all the loose ends that remained in that game. This one certainly seems to conclude Noctis' and Luna's story. Plus, if I understand it with my limited knowledge, they do save the world, which every FF needs to end with (*ahem FF12 ahem)

Yeah, that at least would be neat.

I didn't get to see it unfortunately. Was going back to check it out, but just as I was getting to it the stream got shut down. Ah well, in a few weeks I'm certain I'll make it.

One thing I'm curious about is whether you can max out all all skill trees and how hard it is to get to level 99. Also, can we change the difficulty whenever we want? Like if we beat the game on normal and wanted to try the last fight and others on Hard or something?

I think you guys are missing a bunch of context from late in the game. For better or worse.

edit:

I do think the ending is going to be very polarizing but without knowing much of the context yet,

Beaten by Toth of all people...

i love you toth

Ending looked good to me. Decided to say screw it and just jump in, that way I can enjoy the game fully and not feel the need to rush to each story point.

They took all references to Etro out of anything i think, so really, Luna is just Luna and the logo just symbolizes her.

I totally understand wanting to make the ending to where it leaves no room for a sequel but I wanted something more meaty. It's not the most horrible thing in the world though.

Same. I think the Luminious Engine can be better utilized in a game from the ground up now that the engine is completed.

After this game I don't see them using that engine again. Both FF7R and KH3 are using Unreal, the later dumping Luminous. FF16 will use Unreal as well.

Amano is still the best

Ending looked ok/good/great depending on everything that happens before it(really it's going to hinge on how successfully the game makes you love the cast, I can easily see this being a great gut punch if you're super invested).
Doesn't give me the disaster/tainting the experience vibe like *cough ME3 cough*.
Could also easily see it falling super flat, but again then it's totally on the everything before it not the ending itself.

This is a DLC world. Even if plans for it doesn't exist, a post-game/retcon DLC isn't impossible. But it's far too early to think about that until we get the full story uninterrupted.

It would be a shame it they actually abandoned the engine after all that work. Hopefully they will have learned their lesson from this.

Actually, I think it's kind of refreshing that he doesn't have an ultimate form lol. I just finished a JRPG where the final boss grew wings and transformed into a monster. It's in EVERY JRPG at this point (since forever?) that it's refreshing that the finale is two (superpowered) dudes beating each other down in the streets of a dead city. I kind of like it.

Anyway, I'm enjoying everything seen so far, though everything is missing context and I'm looking forward to finding out more.

One thing I'm curious about though, if Ardyn doesn't have a final form, what exactly is Chapter 0? Maybe I missed something. But I'm curious where that fits in since now we've seen the final boss is a man and not a monster.

They don't want to work on this anymore. I think the expansion DLC will likely be relegated to past history and exposition IMO.

Which makes sense considering the outcome.

What loose ends remained at the end of XIII?

How are all these Cocoon people going to survive in the wild without technology to coddle them?
How did Dajh and Serah revive?
Why did fang and vanille both turn into ragnarok when Dysley said only 1 l'cie would turn?
What happened to Hope's father and Rydea?

These are just some of the questions I had after beating the game.

Why is it playing a Leona Lewis song?

I may be the only one here thinking this but I love the new logo.
Well, more like I love it when the titles get changed cause of the plot. Like
Bravely Default.

Same. While not exactly the same, I was quite fond of how the ending of FFXIII gave a different meaning to the logo.

The more I think about it, the more I'm ok with it. Not every final boss has to have a billion different forms. This seemed super personal and it was still epic as hell. And lol at people saying worst FF final boss. Remember Yu Yevon? So, has anyone here actually played the final boss?

And here's a question. Doesn't FFXV have NG+? Is there a possibility we have a Type-0 situation here?

To me if you have to resort to bad/overly sad things to get a reaction, if that's your credo, you're automatically a hack. Goes for manga, anime, anything really. Considering we're 3-0, Tabata is very much of a hack. Assuming that's the whole ending, it manages to successfully make the literal deus ex machina at the end of the FFXIII saga a lot more enjoyable.

Eh, when so many games pull their punches at the end and have everything turn out fine, I'm happy to see an ending where everyone just fucking dies.

those aren't really open plot points though but smaller questions that don't necessarily have to be answered. The definitive ending of FF13-3 had everyone end up in france or whatever lol. You don't need every single question answered to have an ending.

FF13 had a decent closing by itself
