Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

Yeah I finished the game, the story is a severe mess but the game itself isn't bad, the characters are cool too.

*sigh*

I just wish they just canceled this idea all together, working with a baggage like Versus XIII was never a good idea. I just wish they had started from scratch and secretly worked on it until it was ready to be revealed, it beats having a rushed and rewritten version of the game. Having said that though, I don't think the ending was bad, it was well done and well directed I just wish the story-telling wasn't all over the place.

Better, it explains well enough to follow it without feeling lost. But as others said, there is a lot happening offscreen.There are also some notes you find in Chapter 13 near Ravus body explaining his story. The story is pretty simple, imo, not convoluted. There is little story during the beginning chapters, then it starts moving faster.

Anyway in case they decide to reconnect the story with sequels they won't have me onboard. Just complete the dlcs, then move on with FF XVI and the strong female lead, Agni,

in XV's defense, the main cast for the game are more interesting and develop far more than most think. Watching them grow and banter literally carried the entire story aspect of the game, the ending made that even more powerful.

I don't think so. MGS feels unfinished story wise, FF XV has a clear ending. Too simple as an ending, but it's an ending.

Besides, the story cutscenes are few in the beginning but are enough to understand there is a plot moving on.
 
I figured it was going to be this way when they were struggling to put out a single substantial story trailer. Turns out there isn't much to make a trailer from.

Sadly, I think that is due to a lot of rewriting in the game and changing the scenes. I don't know why they couldn't stick to something since 2013 and deepen it, I hate how badly the story was in the first chapters. Mess isn't even enough to describe it and I am someone who is very forgiving when it comes to stories in JRPs. Shame, the characters deserved a better presentation than this.
 
Cutting the invasion of Insomnia and putting it into Kingsglaive probably sucked up 95% of what was originally interesting about the early game.

It's as if the Midgar section of FFVII were cut out of it and put into a side movie, and bloated with dull side characters to the point that it wasn't interesting. Then the game proper begins with you wandering around the world map in search of a plot.

I think it would have made for an awesome 10 minute FMV and 30 minutes linear gameplay sequence. No Nyx, just treaty-breaking crystal heist, followed by Noctis fighting his way out of the city.

Puffing it into a dull film with nobody characters sucked all the excitement out of it.

I wonder if they were just really worried about the Insomnia stuff completely overshadowing the later sequences of the game.
 
It still feels odd they cut the whole opening considering it was almost everything we saw of this game before it becoming FFXV.

Nobody expected a GTA like explorable city to be in the game. Making some linear set piece intro level was really that hard? The stuff with the penthouse party, ships, Behemoth fight and such were so cool. All of those looked completely scripted and linear already and that's just perfect way to open a FF game.

Now the game starts with pushing the car. seriously cmon, what a dumb ass decision.

Yeah, thinking about it more, I don't understand why they had to remove the Insomnia sequence entirely. I understand they were pressed for time and assets needed to be cut, but if they made Kingsglaive anyway, why couldn't they just cut it down to a very short, linear sequence that also served as a tutorial?

How so though? It's a set piece, just like the other set pieces in the game. Either they're executed well or they aren't.

Yeah but it had the potential to be the best set piece in the game. I mean, it's hard for me to judge because I don't really know a lot about what happens in the second half of the game but I could see being disappointed if nothing else came close to that hypothetical opening.

Exactly, when I was watching it I thought to myself, why should I care about these characters? I knew they weren't going to be in the game. I only cared for Regis. I also hated the art design. It was way to realistic. I rather have a stylistic approach than to base the characters off their voice actors/motion actors.

The Brotherhood Anime was a much better approach.

As it stands, I think FFXV has the weakest opening of any mainline FF game.

Yes, even comparing it to the Famicom games.

Brotherhood is more "solid" and successful within its scope, but I wasn't much enthused about it either. Typical slice of life anime stuff..

Eh .. I don't care for FMV with no substance other than to wow you. It would be nice to have some quality context and plot, that's the issue with XV mainly imo.

No developer drops an opening sequence which has a chance to be the best thing in the entire game because they are afraid people will be disappointed if nothing else in the game comes close. It's the opposite, you try to make the beginning parts of the game as good as you possibly can because lots of people won't actually finish the game.

The train stops and you get off and do a dungeon, get back on, train stops and you have a fight in a trainyard, get back on, at the next stop talk to some people in the train station in front of an unfinished city, get back on...

I get the feeling "oh fuck no it has a train" will be a thing for the FF community going forwards.

They managed 2/12 settlements and 1/5 of the landmass they originally aimed for, it's not exactly a huge mystery.

I do want stylish and well directed introductions to my FF. I wouldn't agree with a "no substance" description (it may or may not have substance if it's stylish). That's the biggest reason why I've loved this series' aesthetics. The commitment to extreme style.

Whether that's Magitek armour trudging sombrely through the snow, a battle between Squall and Seifer edited like a music video, or a wedding sequence in Dalmcasca and war scene in Nabudis (and all the great openings of VII, IX, X, etc). All of them were striking scenes in their own way.

I think that's FF's job to deliver.. core to the series appeal, to me anyway. and FFXV does not deliver. A pity, IMO.

More or less this. I didn't bring up Nojima in the first place, my comment had little to do with FFXV itself. FF7 is the only time I've stomached the guy. I'm not sure if the Squee of today has any quality writers/storytellers to be honest...Their MMOs aside supposedly... I guess! (I never played them :P)

Shit man, if I was stuck riding on a giant sea serpent Shadow of the Collosus style, I'm pretty sure that's the closest I could get to reasonable.
 
Checking the trophies list, this's a very easy platinum to get. You just need to collect all the royal arms, do 80 side quests, and lvl up the parry skills to max. The only monster that grants you a trophy when you kill it is the adamantoise, so I guess he's the ultimate boss of the game.

Can you explain the time skip? What happens during those 10 years? Is it left open for DLC sake or is it tied into the story in some meaningful way? What triggers the time skip to occur?

Noctis sleep in the crystal for 10 years tp gather his magical powers. While they can explore what happens during those 10 years in the DLC, I don't think that's what they're doing. We saw concept arts for episodes Gladio and Prompto, and based on them I can guess when they will take place, especially Prompto's.

Are there any videos of the combat being more involved than the Judgement Demo? People keep saying it gets more complicated but everything I've seen still seems very basic

It seems like the narrative that FF always had bad stories is generally unfortunately too strong to kill entirely.

So basically a lot of these are going to be scenes specifically during the game that they injected to sell as DLC? lol. Not that i know that was the specific reasoning for them or not, but in terms of convenient disappearance, both of those are pretty suspect

Guessing the King's Suit which I believe you can wear after you beat the game were not in the Judgement demo, so there's that at least.

Edit: actually that suit appears to be something you can also get with the deluxe edition.
