Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

So the plot is literally a collectathon. Find the summons, get them on your side because you need their power for reasons, find the swords of the ancient kings so you can beat Ardyn who's evil for reasons, oh no everyone keeps dying off screen, 10 years later, oh those people who didn't die are still around but they're not on screen for reasons.

I'm cackling.

Was anything from the Dawn trailer in? What about anything from 2015 like that train station?

Train station is in. From Dawn, only Luna pushing the guns scene is in the story.

Remember that there's always the possibility that those scene are still in but optional, since I found some cool flashback scenes in side-quests.

This stuff makes me wonder when did they actually start changing the story. They told us that the started on Kingsglaive in 2013 right? So why was the Jump Festa 2015 trailer stuff they knew wouldn't be in the game? The red moon was removed as well and I know you could get that to glitch in Episode Duscae which was out in March 2015. I would really like to know what exactly they changed and when they decided to change it because what Tabata has told us doesn't really match a logical timeline for what is in the final product.

Can you elaborate more on those flashback scenes? Like the contents and which part of the side quest it is from. Thanks.

It's completely baffling that content and media that was promoted just a year ago is now just fucking gone. I don't get it.

Square needs to get new writers. The fact that they keep on fucking up game after game from a story/narrative perspective is such a shame considering everything else.

I'd imagine the reviews from amazon JP will just consist of mainly scathing reviews.

Except of course they moneyhatted 40/40 from Gomitsu lol

I've skimmed the thread and just 6 days ago there was a thread confirming dual audio, but has anyone here experimented with the audio and text settings? I've got the NA version preordered, but I was looking forward to playing it in Japanese as last minute practice for the N1.

Tbh, the Japanese in this game really isn't N1 level. It's all pretty basic (due largely to how the main characters speak), but I guess it still counts as listening practice.
The Layton games are the only ones I've played that actually featured N1 grammar constructions.

Yes this is so odd to me. But I guess we shouldn't be too surprised they completed redesigned Luna's face from the Uncovered event to the retail release. Is there even anything about the moon in the game? It's had a sleeping and moon motif going as far as I can remember and with the red moon out I wonder if the moon is significant at all.

what you have wanted to see for luna's character that you didnt see?

It's hard to put it into words, but I didn't want her to be used as a plot device for Noctis because of the ring. When Tabata hyped her up to be a strong character that would have a big role in the story, not to mention a temporary party member, I was holding him to it. I wasn't expecting for her to have so little screen time only to get killed 1/3 of the way into the story. I thought we were also suppose to learn about her background... Like how she became an oracle, how she came across Gentiana, and what having "Freya" in her name meant (pretty sure they mentioned something like that after the Duscae demo was released). I thought she had some major connection with Eos (the goddess), but I guess that's not the case. Also, I'll feel pretty cheated if there's no proper reunion between Noct and Luna :/ let alone between her and her brother.

Don't have much hope for the story cause beyond what you already spoiled for yourself things just don't go anywhere really. I was extremely mad at how the villains were handled too, they introduced them and all of a sudden were either killed or reformed off screen. So yeah, your best hope would be the characters and their interactions because that's the only good thing about the story and they help make the ending matter. It's a rare occasion where I look forward to a DLCs of a game that I didn't like much of its story, really I am amazed at how the characters ended up carrying the entire thing for me lol.

*sigh* Oh well I guess. But, yeah at the villains... especially when my favorite supposedly turns into a humanoid monster :< . I was hoping that Peasant's prediction of him having some sort of connection to Fenrir would be right, but nope... I'm really sad about the dogs though, and just distraught on how they handled Cor. It's kind of baffling on how he's the only who survives and yet everyone from the cast died *assuming the bros are gone*. No spoilers though.... Do we get to see or learn anything about Gentiana?

It's not bad writing that fucked up the game's story, it's bad management and harsh deadlines. It feels like lots of stuff got cut in the last moments.

Can you elaborate more on those flashback scenes? Like the contents and which part of the side quest it is from. Thanks.

There was a side quest where I heard a Luna's speach on radio, and it triggered a 2 mins flashback for her in a town healing people and doing oracle stuff.

The moon was the last natural source of light during the endless night that lasted 10 years. That's about it.

Haha, with so many people asking about the Dawn trailer, I can see it now.

Patch 1.05:

- Added cutscenes from Dawn trailer to enhance story scenes.

Ravus is Cid Raines but with less screen time.

Let that sink in.

To be honest I fully expect them to add more cutscenes in the coming patches. It feels like they cut tons of the studd in the last few months, it's crazy.

Okay, thanks. Did you manage to complete NG+ though? I keep hearing there's an alternate ending. All I want to know is whether I can revive Noctis and his bros.

Thanks.

I can't find a NG+ option. I'm pretty sure it exists though, since the official guide mentions it in its description.

Nothing, they just left him when they were sailing off to Altissia and we never see him again. They mentioned he was still alive and kicking after the 10 year jump but you never get to see him again, yeah, wasted potential :'')

Huh, so Cor really was The (admittedly very off-screen) Immortal.

She was in one cutscene next to Luna, and someone mentioned that she died after Luna died which left Umbra all alone. (that part actually made me tear up)

Nooooo, not Pryna. The dogs aren't allowed to die! Pryna dying with Luna would have been sad to see on screen, sigh. I guess Umbra still lived even after Noctis sacrificed himself, judging by the end of the game? Poor Pryna, too good for this world.

Redesigned is an exaggeration but they have been constantly making tweaks to her face.

Edit -

She went from this

In regards to the NG+, is this true? http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/932981-final-fantasy-xv/74611412

I know, it's Gamefaqs, but.....

The guy made another thread on GameFAQS and he sounds like he's full of shit.

As members start to question him, his lies start getting more and more absurd.

So, unlikely.

His other thread is here : https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/932981-final-fantasy-xv/74610837

Have you tried starting a new game via the standard new game option? Maybe it triggers from that? Odd that they mentioned having a NG+ yet no one's able to find it.

Don't worry there will be an alternate ending by patch 2.0 just like Mass Effect 3.

You kid, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they did that. The fact that they've inserted cutscenes via the Day 1 patch is worrying.

maybe they'll rework the ending to where you kick Ardyn's ass first, and then Ifrit shows up and is the final boss

and then 4chan will go nuts because the rumor that ifrit is the final boss is correct

Square needs to get new writers. The fact that they keep on fucking up game after game from a story/narrative perspective is such a shame considering everything else.

I wouldn't say they need new writers more than story doctors that go through the story and events to pinpoint parts that don't work, references to things that are irrelevant and aspects players might question or find hard to follow/swallow.

All the "happens off screen" things I keep hearing about should've been nipped in the bud during development. No "off screen", this is a medium where we SHOULD be seeing these scenes occurring IN GAME through cutscenes.

Bros don't die.

Okay, but Noctis is confirmed dead? Odd...... I was very sure, I saw an SE staff in the FFXV official forum said there is a 115th line of Lucis.

Edit x 2: Okay, found the original source. Sorry, it took a while, but I had to screen through 1000+ posts to find this.
go to this link; https://forum.finalfantasyxv.com/discussion/2712/another-egx-stream-from-suzy-lu

This is by the SE Moderator (SE staff) from the official FFXV. It seems he just randomly spews this out.

And I recalled it was said after Tabata locked the disc content of the game.

Which was why I was surprised Noctis is dead......

Ah ok. If that is the case, maybe Noctis isn't dead after all?

Also I checked the link but I do not see the statement from Square. Can someone quote the statement?

Noctis' fate still open to interpretation, I guess......

Here is the quote:

So, will there perhaps be a 115th king? It cannot be denied that it would be appropriate.

While the story from the sounds of things might be disappointing I look forward to the exploration and postgame activities.

Driving around and checking out Altissia is my top priority,

Funny thing about the versus video. Whenever someone would mention ring magic I keep thinking they meant like the ring of fire magic that I remembered from the old trailer.

Nothing, they just left him when they were sailing off to Altissia and we never see him again. They mentioned he was still alive and kicking after the 10 year jump but you never get to see him again, yeah, wasted potential :'')
lol wtf is this? That's it for him?

Was anything from the Dawn trailer in? What about anything from 2015 like that train station?

Nope, as Sora said only Luna pushing the soliders with guns and the train station is in. Otherwise, the whole thing with Regis crying and Luna being abused is not there. shame, really.

No wonder they patched in scenes from Kingsglaive there was barely enough relevant plot points in the game already.

The way they patched it was hilariously bad too lmao.

Yeah I got the flash-backs too, but I think its dumb they put the good character development and characterization in optional and missable quests ~_~.

I tell you: now that ff7 remake is a reality, the next fan wet dream will be a ffxv remake by nomura.

I am worried about 7R lol

Uhh, she shows up a couple of times in the linear part and end. So..

They should have went with Peasant's theories, man that guy's most ridiculous theory is ten times more interesting than anything that happened in XV.

lol wtf is this? That's it for him?

Yep, shame really cause he was SO interesting and his dynamic with the group was awesome. He does ONE quest with you and he is off somewhere until you sail to Altissia </3

there are so many red flags telling me to stay away from this game but i'm likely going to get it anyway just to appreciate the environments and music.

hearing a softer version of the battle theme play after a fight sold me on just that experience.

edit: EVEN REGIS CRYING ISN'T IN?

the hell

The game isn't bad, it's ironically one of my favorite games because everything beside the story is actually good, the characters are wonderful.

reposting from the other thread since it might be more appropriate to discuss this here
Can we get people to share what makes the characters(core group and supporting chars) great?
Like what's each characters arc and how does everyone grow?
How insightful is the banter they have or is everything fluff?
What can we expect characterization wise?
Are these characters more realistic and feel nuanced or is it a Tales game kind of deal where they largely play off their stereotype?

Their interaction and their comments about everything. They even comment on side quests. They also mention a lot of the lore and people's roles in the game, I actually learned about Gentaina's role from their conversation. They also develop as characters throughout the game, I liked that. I never got bored of listening to them banter or comment on something.

There is no arc per-se, but they go through things and conflicts that make them bond together. There are few moments of openess between Noctis and his crew that I enjoyed a lot, too bad they're optional though :)

Can you go into more detail? You say they develop as characters but they don't have character arcs? That confuses me a bit.
How are they different at the end from when we first meet each of them?
What do they learn during this journey?
What are the specific things you love about each of them?
Is the banter like bioware game banter or is it more like tales skit banter or different even from that?
Maybe describe the relation dynamics a bit that stand out to you? Thanks, for sharing impressions.
