Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

can square patch some more luna/noctis cutscenes in while they're at it with this story fixing thing? i'm sure they have some lying around somewhere

the cg tenebrae dream sequence is fucking incredible, i mean..wow. it makes me so sad that it feels unearned in that moment, and doesn't hit entirely like it should.

edit: i see people are talking about it too. what a missed opportunity :(

How long does it take to complete these main scenarios (including expansions) in XIV? And is it achievable in (mostly) solo play? I kind of want something to wash out the bad taste after XV.
You can do the main scenarios solo play I think. Some people here have done it in a month or two. Community is notoriously helpful too.

This is happening to me right now. The scene in the credits is so powerful because you already know that Noctis died.

Obviously not everyone agrees, but yes as far as I've seen the ending seems to overall be the most well liked part of the story easily, specifically the campfire. It helps that both of Noct's VA's knocked it outta the park and his facial animation was amazing.

Was going to reply to these posts earlier but someone found out that if you go to 14:59 of this video

you can see Gladio starting to cry. I didn't catch this detail the first time but I actually started crying after seeing that.

So glad I'm finished. This is easily the worst RPG I've played to the end and I only did that much because I heard it was so short.

Gameplay wise, a gooddamn mess of half baked ideas that never come together. The story is fragmented and full of one note characters I could do without. What a let down for a main line FF game. Can't wait to delete it and start installing the Black Friday stuff I bought.

Great soundtrack, though. If only this game had a boss fight to live up to that epic Leviathan fight track.

yo wtf is this? has anyone talked about this yet?

basically the end of the campire scene is edited out if you play with the english dub. you don't see the shot where noctis stands up and cries. it's not a regional change. if you play with the JP dub you still see it.

the video also explains the translation of "i love you guys" to "you guys are the best". like any localization it's a subjective thing, but interesting to talk about.

removing the end shot is fucking stupid though.

Not true as of the last patch I don't think.

He stood up in my English version as far as I remember. Looking at this walkthough, I seem to be right in my recollection: https://youtu.be/l-CYFb4_s2A

I do think the localization change from "love you" to "you're the best" is a debatable decision though.

Reminds me FFX's changes. In the JP ending, Yuna says
Thank you to Tidus
. In the English version, she says
I love you to Tidus
.

Just finished the game...

I had this picture in the catalog from when Noctis firsts wakes up after the time skip and hes sitting and looking at the ground and he looks like Sad Keanu. I wish I wouldve used that picture as it perfectly wouldve summed up the game

Everyone gripes about chapter 13, which I do feel like it deserves it, but chapter 9 was far worse to me. The leviathan fight was the biggest pile of jank I've seen in a long time. 13 was a slog that limits combat, but I already fucking hated the combat so just limiting the combat didnt really make it any worse, just more of a slog. The ring was OP anyway, could march right through every enemy with just holy, and as long as you only use holy you never run out of MP either, and 1 shot iron giants with the one spell just by running away first.

Of course when holy breaks dudes weapons you get stupid shit like this: https://youtu.be/Lt3cLnpftIo
And then you cant kill them until you have full MP. At least for me anyway. I couldnt use death on them since Id run out of MP before the spell actually killed them, I had to use the full MP spell/

Since I'm in the spoiler thread though:

I couldnt give fuckall about Noctis, Gladio, and Ignis throughout this game.Noct starts out as a brat, moves to having no personality, then becomes an insufferable brooding twat after chapter 9.

Gladio is just there most of the time, and others hes just a prick. Before fighting Titan Noct goes "I'm tired of all this walking" which made really no sense at the time but w/e and then Gladio just freaks the fuck out. "I'm tired of all your whining!". I have no idea what the fuck brought that on. Noct hasnt been whining, he hasnt been doing fucking anything. Gladio does this again in the later chapters too.

Ignis then basically nothing. Hes there, gets blinded by who fucking knows what cause, and then acts as some sort of anchor to a dispute in the final chapters that makes no sense to be happening.

The chapters post 9 show a game truly rushed to its conclusion. Chapter 9's meetings in Altissia showed some decent promise to a political game storyline, but this chapter just says fuck it and ends the entire political game and just has Ardyn start immediately taking everything over.

Ardyn mightve actually been a good villain if it wasnt so rushed. If the game wouldve let the Empire continue to be the villain for a while longer, really play up the emperor and and their conquest before Ardyn actually swooped in. Let Noctis group feel some victory against Niflheim before Ardyn ruins it. Let the Niflheim characters actually do something. That early scene showing the empire had 5 people in it. The emperor, Ravus, Aranea, the balding guy with the beard whose name I dont even know, and one more I forgot. What the hell even happened to the last two. Where was their chance to even be villains. I dont remember them in a single scene after that. Meanwhile Ravus becomes a pile of nothing and a shitty boss fight, the emperor becomes a random demon boss, and Aranea is...well on to other side characters.

This game is as bad as FFXIII with side characters. They are so close to irrelevant its ridiculous. Aranea had some decent quips and potential, but shes barely in the game. Iris feels completely inconsequential (though her little walk around quest was decent world and character building), Cid is just there for a quick reminiscence and Cor was....why was Cor even there? He just tells you to find some swords and apologizes for Regus's death and thats it. And of course Luna, fridge girl.

With the Luna topic again, why the hell does this game want to try and make you care about shit after the fact. First with Insomnia and King Regis's death, then with Jarod's death (LOL), and next with Luna. Theres like 3 or 4 scenes in the last 4 chapters of Luna flashbacks. Here with her wedding dress talking about marrying Noct and being happy with the arrangement, Her with Ravus talking about getting the ring to Noctis, and at least one more I already forgot. Why is this shown after she died? The character was so damn worthless that if you at least gave her this screen time earlier you couldve maybe given people some reason to care about her before shes just offed. Then this whole random flashback happens at the very end of the game. After the first credits the game flashes back to the final camp ground and has Noct getting all emotional. I figured this was going to be him letting the guys know that he had to throw his life away to kill Ardyn, but he just says some sappy shit that kindve alludes to it. Idk, it was dumb, but it shouldve actually been shown during the final camping to actually add something going into the final battle.

The game feels so desperate to give you "feels" without ever actually earning it. Especially with how much is off screen. The guys showing up in the afterlife was random as fuck when the last time we saw them they were just preparing to fight off some demons. They held off an absurd horde in chapter 13 so that shouldnt have been any trouble, but nope they actually died.

Then the post credits scene. What the fuck was up with that. Was it the afterlife? If it is why does the afterlife look exactly like Eos post World of Ruin and has the sun coming up due to Noctis's action. Did noctis save a mirror after life at the same time? Was it some weird time shenanigans based on his actions and thats why hes young again? Seriously, what the fuck was the point

At least him and Luna got to look at that sweet picture of Aranea.

I'm just done...that was a terrible game, it joins Final Fantasy II as the only mainline games in the series I just straight consider bad games.

yeah Tabata loves those. Type-0 started the game with a guy got killed and screaming i i don't wanna die......LOL without any context it just felt comical and, as you put it, desperate for attention.

Yep it was a bad game for me too. But it did feel like a FF game when playing it, which is better than FFXIII where I thought I was playing an FPS lol

Open to interpretation then, I guess. I suppose it could go either way if they decided on XV-2. Watch Noctis return at that. I would not be surprised! He was a decent main character and thankfully not a mopey emo Prince.

Where's Adamantoise by the way? Haven't done many hunts so I assume it'll come up there?

Edit: ah yeah they're in the afterlife bit. Forgot.

XV-2 can be about Prompto hearing about a method to bring back "those who have been sacrificed by the Crystal". He will be joined by a new female lead and they will recruit monsters as party members. Everyone will be able to use magic because after the darkness was dispersed and the blood of of Lucis was ended, magic returned to the world!

Fits the way FF sequels goes :P

I never had that feeling. To me this felt like a spinoff game that belonged on the Vita, not a real FF game. The simple combat, terrible loot (bought most of my weapons from vendors and since the king weapons all drained hp I mostly ignored them) and empty world were all so frustrating.

"Walk around on the train until it arrives" was a perfect way to sum up the game in a single quest objective. I was sure that you'd walk one car over and run into someone that would start a conversation. But no, you're really just supposed to walk around a train with little of interest on it for five minutes. They may as well have said "hey go fuck off for five minutes."

Conan was right, aggressive waste of time.

Shadowsoldier89 nails it. A really sorry excuse for a game after the early promising start, amazed at the high scores it got personally.

Finished it yesterday but spent a bit of time gathering thoughts.

The game really has a lot of individual scenes throughout the game that are really good. I'd say most of them are actually pretty good on their own, in fact. However, the real lack of cohesion between them plagues the game. They don't do enough to bridge scenes and connect them. They thus fail to create a dialogue with the player to make them invested. In fact, they ask the player to make leaps themselves instead of showing it to them. It's really apparent with Noctis/Luna and Noctis/Regis who both are off-screen for most of the game and yet have this huge part of Noctis' mental state. It really ends up making Noctis revelation scenes feel weaker as a result despite the scenes itself being powerful.

Gladios, Ignis, and Prompto suffer somewhat similarly as well. There's just enough in the game to make the scene after the first credit sequence be really powerful though. However, the lack of backstory and individual interaction is pretty disheartening. I got a scene with Prompto and Noctis sitting on top of a motel talking but I didn't see one for Ignis or Gladio so I don't know if they exist or not, lol. There's also a lot of stilted interaction between them in large part because we don't know where each of them are coming from. Gladio is a real ass at times but the game doesn't really make an effort to explain why he's so hard on Noctis. The anger feels artificial and then the way they make up feels even more artificial because they made Ignis blind for no real reason. Prompto's revelation in Chapter 13 also felt out of place despite the fact I got some back story on him. It's just really unfortunate because these guys have good chemistry that's squandered. It's also funny because Aranea got more character development in the game and she isn't even a part of the regular party.

On topic of squandered, not exploring the world of ruin was just bad form especially because the game takes so much from FFVI. Seeing the characters and how they changed in the 10 years Noctis was stuck in the Crystal (or whatever) and seeing them now would have made for such an interesting thing for the player and been an even bigger catalyst for Noctis, I think. Hearing about Iris the Daemon Slayer was neat but I want to see it instead.

Going to the technical and gameplay side, the combat system works but it's pretty lacking overall. Even after factoring in catalysts, magic options are pretty weak in this. No crowd control, no buffs, etc. When you combine that with the numerous enemies that overwhelm you and the lack of AI options to better control your team, it really falls short of the potential it could have had. Costlemark is a really good example of where this becomes a massive problem. Late in the dungeon when you're fighting 3 Red Giants, a snakehead, a bunch of flan all at the same time, it just becomes a clusterfuck especially with how magic worked.

As for graphics and sound, the audio levels and lip-sync were all over. When you combine that with some of the voice acting, it's jarring. Then the characters have a ton of unnecessary movement or unnatural movement as they speak which really further just pulls you out of the moment. Iris and Cindy really stand out for this problem but it's all over the game.

Anyway, yeah game had a lot of potential and it's a bit disappointing they didn't go further with it. What we have is pretty decent though and by far better than some of the more recent offerings we've gotten from the mainline games, at least as far as an SP game is concerned.

I agree with the problems though. Despite all the mixed bag of a story and characters, I was still pulled in with the bros and the game. The game sounds like another FFXIII "disaster" but there's still a lot to love and people put it middle or mid high despite the the big issues. It's so weird.

12 = 9 = 14 (2.0) > 6 > 5 > 4 > 7 = 8 > 10 > 13 = 15: didn't finish 1-3 or play 11 so I won't put them in the ranking.

IMO What they did good this time was pulling off the hot keyword "open world" - even not a very good one. The graphics are great too. The Versus and "10 years in making" successfully deceived a lot of people.

As a long time FF fan, XV is absolutely a disaster for me.

Sadly, the "5m sales in one day" "achievement" would easily convince the SE higher up idiots that Tabata is the saviour of the franchise. And we will probably see more things from him lol.

I'm seeing a trend with people who like games like X and XIII over games like XII and V.

For a reference, here's a rough ranking for my FF titles:

XII > V > IX > VII > VIII > VI > IV > III > I > II > XIII > X.

High five my fellow non dev division 1 (7, 8, 10, 13, Type-0) FF fan. It is a very common trend. ppl like X and XIII won't like IX, XII much, and vice versa. I never understand why X got some much love lol.

Does everyone agree at least that they nailed the ending?

Everything that happened there, including the mid-credits campfire scene as well was just beautiful.

I am still trying to process what happened. For me this is one of those cases where the game is going to linger in my thoughts for a while before I can move on.

It feels like they nailed the ending... to half of a game mostly unrelated to the first in terms of story beats and tone. It was hard for me to care much about it, but if I had only played the game from Altissia-Ending I probably would've felt different.

I think much like XIII (and well, every entry in the series really), it'll (XV) have its share of dedicated fans. I won't be counting myself among them, but hey, it's cool that this actually came out and I got to play it to completion.

I don't think it was that bad. Like I said: it had issues but the gameplay content was fine.

The only reason why I think it'll be at the bottom of people's list because the expectation of this game is so high and it's carrying a hype worth 10 years.

I don't find anything redeeming in the gameplay

when I figured out what the train was doing, I treated it the same as the stupid car the second time. I just set the controller down, went and poured a drink, grabbed a snack

I'm not comfortable ranking XV yet. But here's mine.

7 > 10 > T > 9 > 5 = 6 > 8 = 12 > 4 > 1 > 13 > 2 > 3

First four are in my top ten games.

Would like to see Ardyn's story in more detail. A robbed guy that turns savage is always great. But... Why did he wait for Noctis and not act generations prior? Or am I to just accept it was the right time for action?

It was the right time for action because the Plague of the Stars started, which makes Noctis the potential Chosen King/King of Light.

Haven't done the post-game stuff yet which I hear is great, but based off 45 hours of FFXV:

Tactics > 7 > 8 > 15> 12 > 5 > 9 > a cluster of FF games I don't care enough about to rank > X.

"Dad, trust in me..."

Noctis has grown into a BAMF by the ending.

I know people like to hate on the kid/guy, but he did grow during the story significantly.

I need to play through 15 again in Japanese and with wait mode before I rank it :P

I actually kinda think the story is savagable to a degree. It would require the addition of a fuckload of cutscenes, but most of the problems are due to things happening off screen and characters not having screen time. Both very fixable issues, i'd say :S

They won't do it though :/

The legend says that when the Plague of the Stars comes the King of Light/Chosen King whatever will save the world and stuff. So he waited for Noctis because the Plague of the Stars began when he was in line to be King.

not quite. The starscourge was already happening. The whole point of the Oracle is to commune with the gods and to fend off the scourge. The king of light is meant to wield the power of the 6 and the old kings of lucis and destroy the scourge outright. Ardyn waited for Noctis for his own satisfaction. Ending the lineage with the true king/king of light at full power is the only way he will have any satisfaction (hence, "I would gain scant satisfaction by killing you as a mortal")

I actually really like noctis' growth, actually. I don't hate him :P

When did it start? I was under the impression it started when Regis was King and Noctis was in line but I could be mistaken.

Also to anyone, who was Regis talking to in the Omen trailer? Bahamut?

removing the end shot is fucking stupid though.

Why the hell would they change that? "You guys are the best" sounds like something you'd tell your buddies over a drink as opposed to the men who are willing to fucking DIE for you. Knowing it was supposed to flat-out be "I love you guys" just pisses me off because that's what the scene needs and what the whole game is building up with those characters.

Edit: Actually, the re-translation in this video helps the bros reactions makes a lot more sense as well.

I got feels when Luna said her goodbye to Noctis in that CG scene, which most people hated.

That scene made me so sad, and what really broke me the most was when little Noct was upset because he wanted to save her. I felt bad for Noctis and Luna, but at the same time, I do agree with everyone here that they should've made a build up to Luna's character before she died. Why couldn't there have been a reunion between Noct and Luna? Why isn't there more scenes of her in general? And where was this promise of making her a temporary party member?
********************************
The story telling is such a mess, characters were so underused, and there were numerous promises made for this game that never came true. I know that there's character DLC coming out for the bros, but despite that, I still feel cheated because you don't know anything about the antagonists, and the other side characters.

EDIT: Can they not fix this? Isn't there another ATR, something coming out soon?

I like Noctis, but wish they gave him room to actually grow. I can't think of any flaws or characters traits he grew out of or into by the end.

When did it start? I was under the impression it started when Regis was King and Noctis was in line but I could be mistaken.

Ifrit released it forever ago. Not sure when.

Fans got robbed
Tabata got robbed
Nomura got robbed

I would like to think that us in another timeline got to play versus and real version of tpp

Anyone else thrilled XV broke the trend of having a pop song playing over the frikkin ending? (XII, XIII both did this).
Since I went to school for music and stuff, I just have to point out that Stand By Me is very much categorically a pop song.

But I know what you're trying to say, fyi.

And funny enough people thought he was emo for the longest ¯_(ツ)_/¯ goes to show how shallow folks can be with character design. What people don't realize is how moppy cloud really is.. remake should highlight this.

Heh, well, I might not be your best wingman on this front. Cloud is my favorite Final Fantasy character. I'd actually argue folks think he is substantially more emo than he actually is, because the Compilation of FFVII material paints him as such. In the game itself, I find him fairly well-rounded and sometimes downright nerdy.

Kinda sad they didn't make the original Versus outfits available to equip.

DLC maybe?

That's also unfair i think. The compilation itself is fairly nuanced with his character. In FFAC he is in clinical depression and suffering from a life threatening disease, hence why he is despondent. In FFCC he is actually quite open as a character and not closed off at all.

It is only in outside materials like KH and dissidia does he become overwrought, but even in those scenarios, it makes sense in context(in KH, he is actively struggling with his darkness, hence why Nomura decided to give him Vincents outfit, and in KH2, this is even more so true, until Tifa came) In dissidia 012 he has suffered a groundhog day effect for 12 cycles and has become numb to the process outside of his feelings for Tifa.

I like Noctis, but wish they gave him room to actually grow.
There's not much to like or dislike. Noctis is the least realized character in the entire story. Prompto may have been grating but at least I knew what he was. Noctis is so inconsistently written, he's just whatever character the writers need for a given scene.

It's hard to see any character growth in a blank slate like that. He has two moments near the end, one where he asks his dad to be proud of him and one where he says goodbye to his lifelong friends. It's hard not to get emotional at either of those scenes, but mostly because those are moments that resonate with everyone and not so much because they show growth on his part.

I don't hate Noctis. There's not much to hate. He's a haircut.

I know it would have been controversial, but i would have actually changed Noctis's original Nomura design to something resembling timeskip Noctis when he was younger, so it was easier to see him actually change into his timeskip form after 10 years.

You don't go from Nomura's design to the dude in the timeskip.

His design is really cool during the timeskip and it deserved more representation.

Noctis is fantastic.

Agreed. Certainly in my top 3 FF protagonists, maybe even my absolute favorite, time will tell.

By the way, I disagree with people saying we needed more scenes between adult Noctis and Luna. I love the idea that in the end, he never managed to reach her. This's what made their reunion in death very emotional for me.

What the game needed, though, is more letters between them. Umbra was very underutilized in the game. The messages Luna and Noctis wrote to each other were a huge opportunity to flesh out their relationship. More frequent and longer letters would've done miracles improving the presentation of their relationship.

The whole point of Ardyn's revenge is because he tainted his soul by saving people afflicted by the Scourge. So its been going on for Millennia.

The Omen trailer is pretty much bunk at this point (to my dismay), but yes, he was talking to Bahamut. The death he is referring to could be either Ardyn (the afflicted) or Noctis (to end the scourge)

I'm fine with them not meeting, just have more scenes of adult luna (seriously those later scenes with Ravus and whatnot should have happened before her death), and have MANY more scenes of child luna and noct.

SERIOUSLY have a bunch of cutscenes that randomly activate whenever you camp or sleep at a motel. Have them be dreams, maybe even ones that turn to nightmares. Seriously anything to flesh this out damnit!

I have to stop comparing, but I just finished the Black Waltz 3 fight in Final Fantasy IX and it is ridiculous that Zidane, Steiner, Vivi, and Garnet have had far more characterization with unique personalities that already tops the full game of Final Fantasy XV. And I'm only about 3 hours in. Their interactions with each other are truly great as well.

I like this camping idea.

... okay, just got the final version of my car. The inside looks all futuristic and shit and it no longer requires gas. ... so why does it sound like it still has an internal combustion engine?

Top Bottom
