Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

So who do you guys think the woman in the logo was supposed to be before they switched the game to XV?

I'm guessing it was the fal'Cie Etro?

I don't see how it could be anyone else.
Luna feels totally retrofitted into the logo.
The game barely, BARELY kept the "sleeping" motif, and Luna had absolutely nothing to do with it.

I imagine the original framework of the plot was that, like the fal'Cie in XIII wanting to "summon the Maker," the antagonists of VersusXIII wanted to "wake the Goddess."
Perhaps Noctis and Stella were two l'Cie given the same "Wake Etro" Focus, and had to race to complete it - the winner becoming crystal, the loser going cie'th.

Is the adamantoise fight bugged? I can't attack the damn things feet. The lock on seems to target inside the model so noctis just runs in place forever trying to attack it. It's really frustrating.

I was so confused about Ignis in Chapter 14.

Like...they say he never got his vision back, but he straight up acts like he's Daredevil or something.

Talcott I believe talks about this.

How Ignis never got his vision back but he learned how to handle it. And how he "knows the darkness better than any of us" since the world at that time was in perpetual nightfall, so not being able to see wasn't as great of a hindrance considering that.

I didn't think that was a bad explanation, in the sense that I found it reasonable that he would learn how to fight again with 10 years worth of time to get used to it. It was great to see him not let it deter him after all that time imo.

THat's why i said Tabata just have just went along with it and redesigned the entire cast's designs entirely, and scrapped Noctis's Nomura design. Noctis doesn't even look like himself 10 years later.

And looking at redesigned Regis and younger Noctis at the beginning of the game in that super realistic CGI is pure oddity

It's funny that Noctis looks out of place in this game and becomes a completely different looking person after 10 year, kinda like how Shion evolved from Xenosaga I to II . A lot of the characters here look realistic looking compared to Noctis' "anime" look.

Also 30 year old Noctis looks weird in the OG outfit:

Looks best in the suit or King's outfit.

How the hell are main party members getting scarred right and left without seeing it happen on screen? Next you're going to tell me Prompto loses his arms after making camp.

I'm guessing it was the fal'Cie Etro?

That's supposed to be Etro sleeping, since the concept of Versus XIII was about sleeping and the goddess was an important deity of Versus.

Finished the game. I'll have an extensive write up about the game tomorrow most likely. I will say that if you removed Luna from the game entirely I would've enjoyed it more.

This game is not good from a design standpoint. It's playable and it's fun at times which is more than I can say for other bad games....

Nothing happens in the first seven chapters.

This game didn't need to be a trilogy.

It needed to be a properly told and paced story.

Really, there was a lot that could be filled in. If open world wasn't a thing, and the team wasn't constantly streamlining the same giant cake of land to get it up to acceptable visuals and performance, all that effort could have gone into making small instanced chunks of gameplay - not necessarily linear, just instanced, like FFXII (and - look at the dungeons - aside from wonky camera the level design is really, REALLY good in these small chunks), with each rest stop or outpost being significant to the story as you get to them in order rather than stumbling upon them serendipitously, sidequest chains also likewise being more integrated into the overall plot since you'd be able to have a rough idea of when the player comes across them instead of again becoming serendipitous, there's really a lot more you can do with the story.

If, say, Lucis had been divided up into 3 continents separated by water rather than 3 baked-together regions, with a bridge or boat connecting both, and you had a clear sense of progression going from one to the next, it'd be easier to write in a longer narrative, since you'd have plots of land that the player is going to traverse in order. As it is the entire continent had a bunch of gates to limit progression but it was still pretty non-linear as of Ch3.

If you ignore any preconceptions for versus, from an objective standpoint I don't think there's a lack of towns perse. There's Lestallum and Altissia which are the big ones, then Old Lestallum, a couple of rest areas, the gas stations, Wiz Chocobo Post, Caem, etc. I'd argue that in terms of scope, they're similar to the smaller JRPG towns in that they have an inn, shops, and some extra flavor buildings you can't enter just because, and some treasure to find. However, they do lack in differentiation and meaningful denizens/questlines which again goes back to the whole open world design aspect.

I think this really was a learning experience for Square Enix (or, at least BD2) in how to create, design and most importantly execute an open world. I think the same team taking on FFXV with the knowledge they had now, given another 4 years (2012 to 2016) would be able to create a much better product. In the end, this really is the first western-style open world they've put together, while also creating a lot of the tools and tech along the way, and quite likely the first time they've taken outsourcing to such a high degree.

All that being said, I really, really like FFXV for what it represents - pushing the envelope in some significant ways. I think it sold the premise of a road trip and of brotherhood remarkably, even if everything else took a big hit. It's also technically very impressive and the visuals are probably going to scale well into the future.

I don't think I'd want every Final Fantasy to be developed this way (heck, I don't think BD2 wants to either what with the crunch at the end) but I enjoyed it thoroughly for being different.

I think I wouldve enjoyed FFXV more if it was linear. Not linear in map design like FFXIII but more linear in terms of progression.... Open world hurt the gameplay and story a lot imo...

Who are the bodies dangling in the throne room? I recognize Regis, Luna, the white dog, and can't tell the other one. Doesn't look like Ravus.

Edit: wait upon further inspection that's the not the white dog but Ravus and the other one looks like Nyx??

Yeah, that's exactly my thoughts. They went neck deep into creating a living, breathing, connected world. That and fine-tuning it performance-wise (check out how the game looked from screenshots in 2015, around Uncovered, then around E3 and Gamescom) as well as dealing with all the issues that crop up when you have the different subsystems of an open world intersect likely ate up an uncountable number of man hours.

But again, at the end of the day, I really, really liked it as an open world, even if I feel like I'd want to have played the more linear alternate universe version.

Standing on Rock of Ravatogh and seeing Cauthess off in the distance was pretty 'holy shit', and I don't really even like open world games.

Naw Noctis's model definitely looked weird in his og outfit lol, his head looked big. I finally beat it though, I was never that invested in the og ff versus, but I really did like the ending to this, the camp scene. There were some messy parts but I still enjoyed the game. I hate that some of the other stuff will be dlc but Iiked the characters well enough, hopefully the dlc will be good.

The KotR summon was some Anime shit with the music. loved it. It was like Cloud Vs Sephiroth V2

also one final fu to luna

It's still so cool to roam around the destroyed Insomnia while Somnus plays. Plus I finally felt confident enough to fend off that leve 78 dude guarding the city. Going to plat the game again before I redo the ending. Gotta fill up my picture quota.

The fight against Leviathan was the first part where I thought this was pretty anime. Then against Ardyn at the end. I liked the KoTR visual though.

Kind of wonder if the end of the FFVII Remake where Cloud just needs to Omnislash Sephiroth gets dragged out into an actual fight.

Chapter 7 was so obviously made at the last minute it's literally hilarious.

Making you find Mythril to fix a boat ?!

Everything seemed rushed.

No proper cutscene from the moment you start the quest.

Only awkward dialogue scenes.

I'm certain they had the cool looking dungeon with the floating water (what was up with that ? why did it happen in that place ? ), the boss at the end and they improvised a chapter around it.

Even the damn mythril is only a blue orb in the middle of the room ?! And we crossed a whole dungeon for it.

They couldn't even create a rock asset for it ?

My wife sat on the couch next to me while I was playing and asked "what are you looking for ?" "Mythril"

Being a Tolkien fan, she said "OMG so cool, what are you going to do with it ? an epic armor ? or a weapon ? "

"Fix a boat"

....

We couldn't stop laughing.

Disagree, Kingsglaive shouldn't of happened.
That could have been part of the gameplay/story.

Also take some of the characters that were shown and never explore and give them some depth.
The story in the game was just sloppily told and rushed.
Idk, it was just a shell of what it could have been.

I almost feel like Square-Enix are being metaphoric when they make everyone wait 10 years for Noctis to come back out of hiding, looking completely different.

Reading the leaks from months ago, it looks like it was pretty accurate to the final product.

Would have liked to see what Stella was supposed to be in Nomura's version of the game, since Luna is apparently a completely new character that was created after the director shift.

"They got tons of flashbacks with Luna/Noct but they don't know what to do with them"

Erase them from existence, clearly.

Just finished the credits. Good ending but bullshit about the logo lmao. Just bullshit. What's that Serpent supposed to be then?

I really hope that we get an Ultimania or whatever that reveals everything. I wasn't one of those Versus XIII whiners and I'm still not but I do wish we could find out what the story plan there was. I feel like based around the limited amount of info we got, the concepts were far more interesting that what XV ended up with. Oh well.

Not sure if this was replied to already but in Japanese he literally says "I love you all" instead of "You're the best". Translation fail in my opinion, it was much stronger in Japanese.

Seriously? Wtf? I guess saying I love you to your bros too gay or something.

I actually think 'you're the best' actually fits english vernacular better in that situation, and what close friends would actually say, in America for example. Its good localization.

It gets the same basic point across.

But its weird how dialogue is changed completely in certain points. I don't think the localizers were afraid to put love in there because...

When Noctis is sitting on the throne, right before he calls out to the 13 kings, he says in the english dub, "i love you all, luna, guys...dad". But in the Japanese version he says "thank you, luna, minna, tousan"

Did anyone choose any hilarious pics to show Luna? I'm a sap and went with the crew in front of the Regalia from the beginning after you fix it. I so badly wanted to choose that pic of Ardyn from Galden Quay though.

"Hey Luna what's up how's the afterlife? Oh here let me show you a pic from my adventure... of the man that stabbed your ass into hell.

What was the actual Japanese line?

Omaeru suki da or something like that. I noticed that too. Same shit like FFX where she says Thank you at the end and not I love you like in the german dub urgh

I knew they would change that so I was waiting for.him.to say it. :D

Man, I rewatched the 2013 trailer when it was first renamed to FFXV, and damn, I'm not even that broken up about the amazing Leviathan setpiece where you're phasing through the crumbling house not being in the game, but I do miss those story elements that were cut from the game, like the soup scene =( also RIP old Regis' Yakuza design lol.

Touching on the Chapter 0, had that never been shown, I think I would have been floored when I found out that 10 years passed by. I mean, god damn, when Chapter 0 initially started, I thought, holy shit, I'm playing as Regis! And then Noctis' name popped up, and then everyone else showed up, which told me two things: There's going to be a major time skip, and everyone survives until then. Kind of a big bummer.

Also, regarding summons, do they still not award you any XP when using them? I havent touched one yet unless it pertained to the story, because I want to make sure I get the XP for the fight. There have been many instances in tough battles where it's giving me the option, but I didn't press it because I wanted to make sure I didn't lose out on XP.

Noctis gets EXP, the others don't.

So, did that Omen thing have anything to do with anything in the game? I suppose he could've been seeing the World of Ruin/Infinite Night, but what of the evil Noctis deal in that trailer?

Could possibly mean when you cutscene fight him in the lifestream when he has his joker makeup on. meh

anyone notice how Noctis suddenly changes outfits when he does the 1v1 on shipment with Ardyn?

Yeah what was up with that? I actually checked my gear really quickly but the screen still showed the outfit as it had been, but suddenly was different? I didn't get it.

And that anyone lived.

Wait so the bros died?? I thought Ardyn's little purple mist just incapacitated them. Now I'm sad :( Prompto deserved to live.

Also nobody answered above, was that Nyx hanging from the ceiling in the throne room? Does anyone know? It looked like him and I'm not sure who else it could've been (the other three were clearly Ravus, Luna, and Regis).

I honestly expected "I love you " but what we got left me happier to be quite honest.

And yeah that was Nyx in the throne room
