Oh yes, I do enjoy the story's in souls games. I didn't appreciate them at first but yes, very much so now a days and while FFXV def has more in your face plot, there is a lot of a story and world building people are missing just heading straight for the story beats.
How is kidnapping the crystal and killing its chosen one not the revenge?
Except in 9, we knew Brahne's motivations for the wars that she was leading, and we knew that she was being manipulated through scenes that took place between her/beatrix/kuja.
At no point in the story of 15 are we shown anything involving the Emperor except the starting scene, and him as a demon. We don't have any basis for why the Emperor would side with Ardyn to the point of appointing him to a high ranking position and going to war for him.
When you have to go off assumptions like you are with the Emperor, I'm not sure its very clear. For all you know, the Emperor could have agreed with Ardyn and wanted to bring in a bunch of demons. We literally don't know his motivations.
Kidnapping the crystal doesn't equal to destroy the power of the gods within it.
Come on!
That power needed to be infused in the chosen one. Noctis passed 10 years in the crystal to get its power.
The Emperor's reasons are explained by him when he is in is deamon form, he simply wanted to crystal's power to dominate the world.
Ardyn with his knowledge of deamons offered him a way to get the crystal, make a magitek army and so on.
It's like Kuja with Dagger's mother.
I see that the plot explains things briefly but you're really trying hard to say that things that are clear aren't.
Trying to rush the content as fast as possible to see how quick you can beat the game by skipping dialogue and avoiding sidequests. Chapter 10, 9 hours in.
Ardyn also wanted to die. He could only die when things went they way they did.
The emperor yeah, he was very basic. He wanted to rule over all. He was just a tool being used for his army etc. He should've gotten more screentime and died earlier, perhaps being captured. He's exactly like Brahne, being manipulated by his second in command who in reality is a near god like being.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think in the prologue of Kingsglaive Luna mentions that the crystal of Lucis is the last remaining one. Meaning there must have been others.

Indeed, personally I found it refreshing that the story is so centered on the 4 principle characters and their journey together. The big payoff of selecting a photo from your journey for Noctis to take with him into the afterlife, I thought was inspired as it perfectly crystallized the " its about the journey, not the destination" approach that was taken throughout.

The ending was perfect to me because the game was like a journey, a road trip with the bros. This is why the lack of narrative didn't really spoil my experience of it.

He never said anything about this when I fought him. He just said "Give me the ring" and that was it. If he actually said anything more than that, then that's a pretty shitty way to tell a story anyways. Kuja sold Brahne weapons. But the entire time, Brahne never trusted Kuja. Whereas the Emperor seemed to go along with anything Ardyn said or wanted, to the point that he still let him use the MT's after the entire city was turned into demons.

I mean it is useless to compare the completion time to past games as they were littered with random encounters. We can avoid battle for the most part, aside from the boss fights and essentials in FFXV, if we choose to speed run through the game. Heck the Chocobos are unlocked with a sidequest that is optional, I think.

This is the game's ultimate strength for me, and why when it ended everything can together in such a way that it became more than the sum of its parts for me, that rare thing in gaming: a truly memorable experience that had actual emotional impact.
Anyone expecting a character action game from an FF is dumb. This is at best a combo of Atb + some kh elements mixed with quite a few strategy RPGs elements. Once you realize that the battle system is about shifting styles (defence, offence, warping) and about offence as quasi-job juggling you start to see how smart thing really are. The camera and lock on are the only real issues for me.
Fun fact: the cosmogony was made around the same time ardyn got fucked over.

Oh yeh, definitely agreed that the camera tends to fuck up at times, which is s shame to say the least =/
The lock-on is also odd because it can work but I have seen that sometimes when we use techniques, it tends to mess with the lock-on. So yeh, hopefully they work on both in a patch.

The weird thing is that locking on big enemies puts the reticle at the top of the screen which sucks, but wait modes auto lock on has no problems what so ever. Wtf

I think the issue here is that the big enemies have so many multiple lock-on points that it is hard to get the one we desire. This happened to me with fights with Catobplas as I wanted to target his head but kept getting legs instead.
If they could have settled on just a single lock-on point for the big enemies, it could have been much better. Of course, we could still individually target parts of their bodies but I honestly never got the sense of satisfaction in targeting just a specific part so it breaks and I can get the item dropped. So I'd rather have a single lock-on point then multiple for the big enemies and attack them with brute force to get them to break/drop items.
I beat the game using barely any magic. The crafting system is so obtuse and requires so many clicks, and the annoyance of friendly fire isn't worth it.
The annoyance of friendly fire is hardly an annoyance though given how utterly useless teammates are. There were actually a number of fights where it was easier to just let them die rather than wasting time worrying about keeping them alive.
If we're critiquing the battle system, it's biggest flaw is not giving any meaningful control over your allies.

They said there was going to be something like a gambit system in the final game IIRC.
There's nothing like that at all.
The only thing you can do is make them use a technique.
So many times where I wanted them to hang back but I couldn't order them to do so so I had to chuck endless potions at them to keep them up because they would die as soon as they got back up.

Yeah I was just thinking of some kind of Tales-like system when I got the game. Some basic positioning orders, thresholds for them to pop curatives to heal themselves and maybe some way to cause auto-techs.

Finally beat the game, at lvl 45, after 36h of gameplay.
I enjoyed it far more than FFXIII, which is all I needed. But the game feels like one giant missed opportunity. It could've been worse considering the tortured development cycle, but it could have been much more.
The overworld feels great to explore albeit a bit barren. But it would've been cool to explore Tenebrae, Niflheim, the "World of Ruin"...
There's plenty of sidequests to do but most of them are fetch quests or hunts, and you NEED each time you completed one to go back to the quest giver. They should've done it like Xenoblade Chronicles or a hybrid system, when you discover a restaurant you can accept their missions and report with your smarthphone.
There's a story there and I liked the endgame but it feels just confusing before that point. Plus they drop bombs to you (Like Prompto's lineage, Ravus true allegiance, etcà.
I get what they tried to do with chapter 13. I'm not against mood changes in the game, but they made it annoying and unfun to play. A shame because I liked the setting.
Also - what the hell is up with japanese developpers and parasites ? I swear to god if my next anticipated game is explained by "PARASITES" I'm gonna be mad
Also, about the stinger, it's just Luna and Noctis chilling in the spirit realm ?
I like the new logo though
Now, I can only hope they learnt from all of this for FF XV-2 FFXVI
Strangely enough I never really had much of an issue with the camera and lock-on until adamantoise, then it all went tits up.
My biggest aggravation being that every time I tried to lock-on to it's eyeball it would target the one on the far side making me miss the 9999 hit 90% of the time, and switching between targets on something with so many possible lock-on points is a ball ache in the middle of a combo.

I really hated the ending, damn. Made the open world brotrip half of the game have more weight though. Glad I did everything possible before advancing ch.9
someone in the OT made me realize something super cool. ardyn probably wrote the cosmogony.
- he has been immortal for 2 millenia
- the cosmogony is 2 millenia old
- the name inscribe to an author is Nadir, both an quasi-anagram for ardyn and has the literal definition of "the lowest point in the fortunes of a person or organization.
- he is fully aware of the cost of covenants and other things he probably shouldn't
He's not the 14th King, though, he's the 114th, as shown in the ending (Noctis Lucis Caelum CXIV on the banners) - they just handwave that away by having Cor point out that over thousands of years many of the older swords have been lost or destroyed, but, yeah. Presumably he could've just gathered ANY 13. There may even be some more out there.
I'm also curious about Ardyn's swords, actually... does it ever explain this? (Silly question I imagine, ha) Are they also Lucian king swords from ages ago?
I wish we could find out what the original story/vision was for the game. The new logo, while cool, seemed a bit showhorned in. I really feel like Prompto had some FNC mythos to his backstory. This game really had the potential to be one of the GOATS. It's still amazing, don't get me wrong. But if the end were more fleshed out, man, it would have been flawless.
