Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

Man it really just hit me, but Noctis saying "Where we're going, there are no roads" upon first use of the flying car sounds so bittersweet in light of the fact that he's dead. The quote is like one of those things you hear when someone's just living out in an endless dream world, never to wake again...

BTTF joke...

I interpreted the campfire scene as being in the past, prior to reaching insomnia.
It most certainly was, but thats my real problem with it. Scene would have been much better served if it was shown when you were actually camping. It just skips right by it to save the emotional moment until the credits. It wouldve made Noctis walking away from the bros so much more powerful if you wouldve seen his resolve beforehand.

So many damn flashbacks in this game...Most of Luna's screentime is flashbacks.

A bit bored at work this morning, so I figured I'd rank my favorite final bosses, and why I feel that way. Feel free to disagree!

1- Kefka: Perfection. The buildup, the music, the art design, Paradise Lost themes, it was all perfect. Perfect. Yes he was easy, but most FF final battles are. Mixing his iconic laughter with Dancing Mad was awesome, and his wordless dissolve into oblivion seemed appropriate given his desire to build a monument to nothingness.

2- Ardyn: I loved the simplicity of it. No clichéd multiple Angel/Demon hybrid forms. Just prince vs usurper fighting through the ruined streets and skies of Insomnia anime style to an amazing fucking piece of music. His constant shit-talking and laughter made me wanna shut his mouth permanently. If you get caught in his AoE attack, he kicks you in the gut while you're down. He's ass and I want him destroyed. Not incredibly difficult, but certainly more challenging than Kefka.

3- Zeromus: Probably one of the only truly incredibly challenging final bosses. The buildup with all your friends appearing to lend you their prayers was incredibly powerful. His fight backdrop was amazing, and his horribly twisted, alien-like design sold his status as hatred personified. Great music as well.

4- Orphan: Yes, FFXIII was a convoluted mess. Yes, his motives made absolutely zero sense. But looking strictly at his boss fight, it was amazing. Orphan's first stage was one of the most interesting FF boss designs I've ever seen, and emphasized Orphan's status as being abandoned by his creator. Plus, like Zeromus, he was pretty damn difficult.

5- Braska's Final Aeon: As someone who grew up under severe physical abuse, the idea of Tidus fighting his father and trying to talk him down during the battle really resonated with me. Jecht's design was absolutely terrifying, and the idea that he had no control over his actions made me again think of my own father and how succumbing to alcohol changed him.

I'd love to hear from everyone else :)

^ agree with the list. Altho for FFX, I was severly OP when I reached final battle cuz I was grinding for all the Ultima weapons and I killed him in like one turn.

The detail when you enter the throne room of Regis and Luna mauled corpses hanging was one of the darkest thing this series has seen to date. Testament of the hatred Ardyn has towards the Lucian cause.

By the way, who were the other two corpses hanging? The one in the right has the glaive's outfit so maybe it's Nyx? The one in the left has white robes so I'm guessing it's Iedolas?

Did every quest I could find, and used up expericast items as I found them casually. Was around level 76 when I ran out of stuff I could do. The loading/car rides between each fetch/kill quest started getting a bit annoying near the end. I probably spent an equal amount of time actually playing FFXV, and playing Brave Exvius on my phone waiting on load times.

Moved on to Altissia, which felt extremely disjointed. The zone separations by gondolas was horrible. The Levi battle was not anything close to as exciting as the early footage of the battle looked like it was going to be. TBH none of the gigantic boss fights felt even close to the epicness of any of the God of War fights. From Altissia forward, the plot reminded me a LOT of Xenogears. So much plot happens off-screen it's like there's another CG movie you're supposed to fucking watch in there.

The hallway of security card upgrades wasn't as long and arduous as GAF had me braced for, but it definitely was out of place, and certainly boring. If you're going to suddenly introduce more stealth elements, at least give a real reason why you would want or need to. I didn't hide once, and just kept killing everything, and there wasn't any real negative to it.

Ardyn was about as boring a villain as you could ever come up with. "Let me build you up so you are a real challenge before fighting you, let me give you ample reason to fight me. Oh I'm dead now." Given how long he was supposedly alive for, why did it have to be Noct that he does all this to? Why now? Why not way earlier? Very disappointing final fight that you could tell was missing a "final form" battle, even before the leak about it being cut.

Building up the dead kings in Kingsglaive, and then putting them in the background of the game's actual case, and then completely ignoring them except for a few seconds worth of attack with zero dialog at the end was a complete waste. SE could have given out all sorts of good lore, like every time you got to a royal tomb...ugh.

All in all, the battle system was enjoyable, when there were not trees, and when it wasn't night, or in a tight space... so the battle system was enjoyable about 20% of the time. I kinda feel like FFXIII may have actually been more fun, and that just feels ugly to type.

So now I have post game stuff to finish up, giant turtle, a handful of hunts to hit rank 10, and maybe a few broken down car quests I missed, and the extra locked door dungeons to get through, but feel like I've run out of steam for this game.

seriously!? Ardyn didnt even hit me once during the first phase. He was piss easy

Ifrit was piss easy too
I thought both were among the easier final boss fights I've played recently for sure.

Even if they ended up difficult, curatives are so cheap and money so abundant that I think I was carrying 99 of at least four different curatives should I have needed them.

Back to the Future reference. Also lolworthy, because even with a flying car you still need to land on goddamn roads.

Whoever thought failed landing = Game Over was a good idea should be fired.

Yea, why making the flying so laborius. Just allow us to auto land more easily. Seems silly. I only used it once and just had it autodrive again. I do love that we have unlimited fuel with it.

It was one choice I actually liked. I think it came at the right time - after he had died, allowing the player to make a final reflection on their relationship.

This is why XenoX is way beyond FF XV about the open world and I feel confident about Monolith having +100 people working on Breath of the Wild's open world.

Pitioss Ruins has glitched or something for me. The flashlight isn't on and I'm stuck at the 2.5D part. The only thing that's letting me see where I am is the stamina bar. Send help.

I agree

And the scene is so good because when you watch it you know that Noctis (and maybe the bros) are dead and this was the last moment of them as a group
It wasn't be the same if they showed the scene before Ardyn fight

Yeah, the engine can draw it in, but I've noticed a rather suspect leap in resolution at moments in the game. I'm also playing on Xbox One, so it's pretty obvious when the game switches to pin-sharp footage using in-game assets, since the resolution on Xbox One goes from 900p down to 720p depending on load.

Huh? They are already in the game they were just off-screen.

I died on the second phase of Ardyn fight the first time. He took all my HP on one hit and I couldn't use a Phoenix Down.

I made the same mistake. Just don't get close to him and just keep shooting projectiles. Seems getting close will just outright kill you. They wanted us to play it like a shooter.

Yeah, someone earlier in the thread compared the Ardyn fight to Yu Yevon, and I just laughed my ass off.

He did the same to me and I was still able to use a phoenix down.

It happened to me too. I died during the first phase at lvl 40 and didn't have any phoenix downs. He was a lot faster than I anticipated.

When I came back, he killed me in like two hits during the midair phase, then seemed to be holding my body in stasis in midair. Couldn't use a phoenix down. Game over.

I thought it was pretty much impossible to game over in combat as long as you had the medicine to cure yourself but apparently you can huh. Never saw any moments in the game that blocked Phoenix Down use, so the whole experience was extremely easy for me, but I'll take your word for it.

Yeah, this is exactly what happened to me.

I got his ass on my second try. He's definitely one of my favorite FF final bosses, because it was so different.

I did it at 43, and he still died quickly and didnt hit me.

I had no problems with the fight either, it was basically hold O and press O, but I've ranted about how it was a garbage QTE fest already, I don't need to be countering Mister Megative's idealized version of the fight every time he posts.

I dunno... he's an amazing villain but the battle didn't feel like I was on the edge of my seat fighting the final boss. Maybe 1st phase was ok but 2nd phase was when everything becomes easier. I know you can die but if you abuse warp it literally feels impossible to die, imo. I think the beauty of FF final bosses is that they always catch you off guard with cheap arse abilities and then they also have a second or 3rd form which is a tradition in the series. For a battle of kings, Ardyn didn't impress me much and I felt like it was too easy to overpower him.

I can confirm it happened to me too. Annoyed cuz I had to restart all the way from the last save.

I like the idea of an epic 1v1 fight. Dante versus vergil is fucking incredible. Ardyn just didnt really put up much of a fight, and his movelist was really limited.

Add in that 1v1 in a final fantasy really doesnt work for me at all. Granted this whole game felt like 1vMany anyway, since teammates were worthless AI and only 1 character was playable

You seem like a really pleasant, well-rounded person.

First phase is quite a boring fight, by every action game standards. And second phase is a QTE fest that throws all the combat mechanics for a stripped down version that basically press attack button for awesome.

It was bad on Levi, is slightly less bad on Ardyn. But just a little bit.

Not for nothing, but the second phase has no QTE. Third phase does.
