Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

Can we have an official GAF poll on how many people cried during the ending? The director said his goal was making people cry so I wanna know how successful he was.

*corny expected jokes about crying about the quality of the game will be ridiculed for being uncreative and predictable
I definitely did. At the campfire scene my eyes got very very moist. When I saw Luna and Noct in the afterlife getting married I was crying. And the moment I realized they were the logo I loudly gasped and ended up bawling.

I say mission accomplished. I only remember crying with three videogames in my life: The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid 3 and now FFXV. Well done, Tabata.

After dozens of attempts (and hundreds of antidotes, ethers, etc), I got three decent screenshots of Malbodoom. Once again taken on PS4 Pro with High Detail settings:

What outfit you're wearing here? Is that a suit and tie? I don't have that one. How does one get it? I've beaten the game but I haven't done any post game shit except I got the flying car.

The suit is one of the bonus items that come with the deluxe edition of the game, which I got so I could have that sweet Amano steelbook and a copy of Kingsglaive
Ah shit :( in my vanilla day one edition all I got was a useless low level Masamune sword.

Does buying the season pass give any new outfits?

Well this explains it. I kept wondering how to unlock that outfit. Its a cool one too. Too bad it didn't come with my preorder or my season pass.

I wish they added more clothes tbh.

Aranea joined my party once randomly in the field, and no joke, there was this exchange after performing Highwind:

GLADIO: "You sure know how to work a lance."

ARANEA: "...I'm not touching that one."

Ha yeah I got that once too. Feels like a love triangle going on between Aranea, Gladio, and Ignis. Prompto likes to think it's a rectangle but he knows his heart is only for Cidney.

Well, I just beat it.

Color me completely confused as to why people were saying the ending was emotional and spectacular. I think it landed with the greatest thud for me in the series.

People were talking about it like it was particularly emotional.... and it's far the lesser in that regard compared with VI, VIII, IX, X, XII and yes even XIII. There are a lot of endlings in this series that I go back to on YouTube and tear up in... but this doesn't even rank.

I think it's the weakest ending since VII, and even that had the great "Midgar 500 years later" zinger.

Storywise, I think we've declined since XIII. This is the most disengaged I've been from an FF plot since I got into the series decades ago.

It was emotional for me, can't deny that, but I was nowhere near crying. I'm not the type who cry over video games though. TLOU didn't budged me at all, for example. Or maybe that counts as a praise from me for FFXV, as TLOU is I believed one of the most emotional games ever created?

Why should he when he's right.... Final fantasy 15 is about Noctis needing to grow the fuck up, and Gladio is the character that calls him on it. I feel he has the right to "be a jerk" when you are bodyguarding someone who keeps complaining when everyone in the group has made countless sacrifices. And he does grow up, that's what makes the time jump work from an arc prospective.

Maybe he can be a real grown up and call Noctis on it in a way more mature way?

His 'calls' on Noctis are generally just satire, mockery or similar remarks which usually won't work in the real world.

Finished it yesterday. Got teary eyed the moment I realized Noct was going to die. (the last QTE before his and Ardyn's death). After that it was the feels train arriving at main station.

God damn, I wish I could relive this game again.

This is where I choked up

I am so glad I chose a proper photo. Saw a video where someone chose a photo of Cindy and I cried from laughter. That would've been the ultimate anti-climax. :D

Speaking of chapter 15..

So I'm on 70% completion rate when I beat the game the other day. Should I finish everything in chapter 15 or load that save in chapter 14 instead? Will I get another certificate of completion if I go back to chapter 14 save file and complete everything?

Beat it, loved it. Most fun I've had with FF outside of FFXIV since fucking Tactics Advanced.

I secretly hoped against hope that Noctis wouldn't die in the end but I knew that was a fleeting dream after a while.

This is exactly how I felt.

Aeris's death in VII and the endings of VIII, IX and X all made me tear up back in the day. Hell, I must have played VII ten or so times over the years and Aeris' death still brings tears to my eyes.

XV's ending didn't make me feel a thing.

Well original that was sort of the plan according to the 4 chan leaks.

Wasn't that the leak that said Noctis killed Stella before the game started, though?

Roberto Ferrari said that Gentiana was originally Stella's messenger, a point of contact between Tenebrae and Niflheim. Doesn't really work with a dead Stella that Noctis is hallucinating.

Literally nothing in the game remotely moved me. I liked the bromance, but the plot was so fucking awful. To be moved by a game I have to connect with the characters and empathize with them on a deep level.

Games that have moved me: FFX, FFVIII, FFVII, FFT, The Last of Us, The Last Guardian, Life is Strange, Gone Home, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, MGS3, MGS4, Journey, Season 1 of The Walking Dead, etc, etc.

You felt nothing when you learned and saw that the main character you spent your journey with died a painful dead with the final blown given by your own father?

Not crying over something is pretty normal though, but at least you can be moved.

//
Did they ever explain why the Nifflheim empire was so bent on getting the Crystal and awakening summons?

Yeah that bit got me more than the campfire scene

Not at all, because I didn't really feel any connection towards either character. I didn't watch the movie, so Regis was there for all of 10 seconds until that moment. I had no context on their relationship or anything that happened throughout their lives.

And I didn't feel anything for Noctis' death either because I never felt like he was a real character. He just felt like a video game character, and not believable at all to me.

This is literally exactly how I feel about the ending, I should not have to view supplemental material to feel emotional about the ending. The game should have done a better job showing a relationship between Noctis and Regis. instead you get Noctis leaving in the beginning and that is about it. That moment in itself wasn't emotional either.

Can't say I even flinched at the ending either. The game hinted at it plenty of times as well so it wasn't like it snook up on me.

The only game to ever make me feel some semblance of sadness was my dog dying in Fable 2.

Roberto Ferrari said that Gentiana was originally Stella's messenger, a point of contact between Tenebrae and Niflheim. Doesn't really work with a dead Stella that Noctis is hallucinating.

The leak also said that Gentiana had medium powers like Noctis and that she was in contact with Stella through the game. The "Stella was always dead" twist wasn't supposed to come until the end of the game, so I assume there would be elements that would make us think that she was alive, like her having a messenger who in reality would turn out to be another medium.

I felt more of a connection to these party members than I did any other party members in any of FF game because they are the only one you get. I felt like shit every time I ran a head after Iggy got blinded and would be lagging behind the group or would fall over and someone would help him up or how in battle he'd try to attack and then fall over.

In all the other games they feel so...expendable to me compared to these dudes. I honestly think they nailed the 'dudes on a roadtrip' vibe perfectly. These really feel like a bunch of friends rather than a bunch of mercenaries like the other games.

Man, what a cool final boss. I love how personal the fight between Noctis and Ardyn is. During the second phase, I'm still trying to figure out what he does to prevent you from using Phoenix down. It's happened to too many people for it to be a glitch. It's like he's holding your body in stasis or something.

Jesus Christ. That would be such a dumb story.

I'd take a better told version of the story we had over what that leak said about Versus.

So Prompto is unanimously the best bro right? These kind of characters usually annoy the shit out of me but Prompto grew on me. Ignis is second. He got a lot of sympathy from me when he went blind and he took the blindness like a fucking champ. Gladiolus is easily the worst imo. He's such a tryhard alpha. The guy seriously needed to chill, especially in the time win after Luna died. He's also just boring.

Gladiolus is such a toxically masculine gaping asshole, like jfc. I was expecting him to be one of my favourites and instead I just hated him. Prompto and Iggy best bros (although Iggy's accent sometimes became way too much to handle).

Final Fantasy: The Fifteenth Sense. Imagine waiting another 10 years for 3 games just for a Shyamalan twist in the end. I'm glad Versus never got to be made into a trilogy now.

I dont get it. I had 2 options of photos. The one from the start near the Regalia and the group shot before boarding the boat. 56 hours of play time and i explored a lot of places.

You have to save photos for them to appear, and I think those two are the default story saves if you don't save any - those photos are unmissable and afaik automatically saved. No other photos are, you have to manually say you want to keep them.

? At the end of each day you view Prompto's photos and you can choose to save them. At the end you pick from your saved pictures.

I REALLY wanted to pick a JoJo pose photo, but I couldn't. Had to pick one of the bros. I'll try to upload it tonight.

Yeah, the trilogy thing was a mistake. Even back when I was still salty about Tabata being the director and all the changes, I already believed that making it a single game was a good decision.

I remember being absolutely baffled the first time Gladio went off on Noctis during the Titan sequence. It came completely out of nowhere. The game is very poor at setting up character moments like that. The train scene was also forced but at least we were given a few seconds of Noctis being depressed to sorta justify it.

(Even if I think Gladio was being a total asshole.)

Wut? I remember playing that part wishing for Noctis to stop moaning like a spoiled brat at everything. What Gladio did and said was exactly what I would have done. Maybe the Japanese dub had something to do with our perception of that scene?

In 56 hours of playtime you didn't realize you can save photos? :/

In case others didn't realize this:
You also don't have to worry abvout saving more than 150 photos and not being able to save additional photos once a cool, new one appears. Just press the right control stick (I think it is) and you go to your gallery of saved photos. There you can delete photos to make room for more. Then go back to the newly taken photos and save the one you like.

I didnt watch anything else either and didnt give a shit at this scene. Noct didnt really do much all game except mope around a bit and get gladiolus yelling at him for no reason, so i didnt care about him, and Regis had 10 seconds of screen time so w/e

The campfire scene was much better written and acted, but I still didnt give a shit about the characters to feel anything. The out of order placement of it didnt help either

I don't think the plan was to make the game episodic, though. My impression, from Nomura's comments, was that the universe would have been developed like the Kingdom Hearts series, with a core game (that would be FFXV, or multiple core games, FFXV-2...) and then multiple side stories told in less expensive formats.

Something like FFXV ending with Noctis going into the crystal, then a 3DS sequel with the bros in the World of Ruin, a browser game in which you create your own character to fight in the Solheim wars, a Nintendo Switch prequel with Ardyn that ties to the end of FFXV, and then FFXV-2 gets released and begins with Noctis waking up in that island.

the funniest part about this is that it's probably more accurate than one would think

actually it's probably spot on

I wish to god there was some kind of way to beat the game and have Luna contextually react to the pictures

That video of Noctis handing her a picture of Cindy was the funniest thing

Got the platinum yesterday in 78 hours... Still have only last Seal dungeon to do, any tips to finish it, i heard no item and it's actually quite hard. Must have a cheap way(other then switch to easy).

I'm really want a Hard mode that prevent item spam(cooldown like tale).... it really make the game from very challenging to a breeze....

Tabata has already failed to hold his promise by not releasing the Pro patch on December.

I think they deserve more flak than they're getting because I know many people who bought a PRO for FFXV.

The exact reason I bought a PRO at launch was to play Final Fantasy XV with max settings. Now I'm not too upset because Tomb Raider gave me a fun experience through the PRO, but I do want to do NG+ once the PRO and story patches are released.

They deserve more flak in general. I can't tell you how many of my friends play FFXV with these stupid black bars around their screens after the newest patch. There are of course ways so fix it (and I did) but in some cases it doesn't seem to work. How much more casual gamers are out there that don't have a clue how to fix this? Did something like this ever happen with a game before?

Ignis' voice actor for the Japanese dub is 100x better than the English dub. In fact, I'd say that every actor for the Japanese dub does a better job than the English voice actors (except for maybe Noctis. Ray Chase did a fantastic job).

If you haven't already, I'd recommend replaying in Japanese!
