Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

It was heavily implied that just putting the ring on your finger was like trying to lift 1000 lbs metaphorically.

After seeing that same love die, his friend maimed and battling a giant fuck off god on a city sized scale, Glado gets into him about having to step it up and to start "taking things seriously".

i've handwaved a lot of the story's problems but this is one that really bugged me. i guess a "rift between the bros" subplot was inevitable out of the box but when it happens it's about... what? noct kinda sorta mopes around for a few minutes?

Nyx was the true star and hero of FFXV.
Wish he would have been mentioned or something in FFXV. Poor Nyx. :( probably will be lost inthe history books :'(

Also after Kingsglaive i really though Nyx's friend would have made some type of cameo and redeem himself or something. He could have been a side quest character at least :/

He was one of the illusion dead bodies put on display by Ardyn lol.

Yeah but did Noct even know who he was? We did but did Noct know what Nyx did for Luna and Regis.

Yes, as part of the Kingsglaive, Noctis was very familar with him and Drautos. They are also together briefly in the Prologue novella. I doubt he knows what Nyx did to save Luna though.

Yeah it all made sense, but it was just done so poorly.

Maybe they just got caught up in not wanting Noct to be a whiny loser for most of the game. That was 100% the right call, but you can't have it both ways.

Now Squall and Glado for instance, that would have been fine.

With the other responses, I accept they may have explained things better in the anime, but that isn't how to make a game. Heck they could even have put the movie inside it and made you sit through it all.

Talking through the dog? The problem here is they also give you choices. All my messages to her took the "cool, see ya one day" path so the tear was very random. It reminded me of ignoring Yuna for the whole of FFX but then the game ignoring those choices anyway.

Fiance dead, just woke up from a coma. Attendant sees (well not really) you get up and is just kind of "okay, I'll get the others". No one is even happy to see you recovered. Gladio's mad at you for not caring about Ignis being blind, who you just find out literally that moment he's blind.

I was confused.

Ohhh. Didn't know that.

What is this prologue novella? Is it available somewhere for me to read?

Maybe the dlc will clear it up, when you discover Gladio has an ice addiction and is just kind of a dick.

The scene where Gladio is angry is a few weeks after Altissia.

Still though, I'll punch Gladio on the face if I am Noctis.

The death of Luna and the train scene is several weeks apart.

He was just a typical American action hero that FFXV didn't give a shit about.

He was a much better hero and protagonist than Nox. Noctis has everything handed to him and everyone tells him what to do, his big struggle is finally accepting what everyone has been telling him to do so the world can be saved. Nyx has no help, no destiny, just himself. He does what he does because he thinks it's the right thing to do not because someone else tells him to. When he puts on the Ring he's given the choice of sacrificing the lives of others in order to save everyone else, but like a true boss of a hero he tells the Kings to go fuck themselves. Afterwards they're like, "fine, we'll give you the power but you gonna have to die," and he just takes it like a true champ. Dude does his job and doesn't complain about it for one second, he's just happy so long as he can help stop the world from totally collapsing with the fall of the Lucii.

Bahamut is just like, "hey bitch, absorb this crystal and then die to save the world from this dude we created who was only doing his job and then we backstabbed." And, Noctis is just like, "okay." Not, "the fuck you say? Fuck you, ya piece of garbage Gods."

Nyx is the hero we deserved.

In hindsight, I feel like Nyx was the best thought out main character of them all.
Edit: didn't see the post above. That's pretty much what I wanted to say.

No problemo! It's a fun story that people argued back when it came out that it should have been in the game. The world building would have been appreciated but I feel would have slowed down the opening to a crawl.
Woah!! That was really good. And i was right.noct and Luna definitely kept in contact via Umbra.

And yeah this would have slowed the beginning down a tad bit. Though it could have been a good way of doing the tutorial. Scene of them going through the citadel to Noct's room, pass by the training room, tutorial, rest of the scenes.

All very true.
I never said Noct was better than him and if so not by much. haha

My point still stands though. He is the American action hero for this American focused movie and FFXV didn't care. He never got the girl, like most of those stupid movies, because she was given to Nocto. bwahaha

Luna in the game didn't even bother to mention him (or anything from this pointless movie) at all. After all he did and their moments together.

Agreed.

Why the Gladious hate? Every time he got angry I was thinking the same as him and it was because Noctis acted like a spoiled brat moaning at everything and not acting the way he should br acting. I wanted to punch Noctis's face when he refused to put on the ring.

There is a time skip, it makes more sense whrn you consider Noctis was moping around for weeks.

Yeah Gladio was just being an arse. It's not like Noctis refused to make the trip and just stayed at Altissia crying in a Hotel room or something.

Especially funny considering before he left the group for no apparent reason.

Can anyone here translate the Japanese at this part where the English version says "You'll never guess whose name Izunia was"? I just want to make sure the localization didn't leave something lost in translation.

Neither Japanese nor English is my first language, but here:

オレの名前さ あれ本名だけど
正式名じゃなかったんだよね

アーデン ルシス チェラム 正式名
ああ イズニアは誰の姓だったか――

"My (first) name.. is my real name, however,
It was not what my full name used to be.

Ardyn Lucis Caelum. My full birth name.
Ahh.. Wonder whose surname Izunia was.."

So very similar with English localization, but English version is more teasing?

I never followed FFvs13 and the whole Stella debate but now I have some questions, maybe it is known maybe not:

- did Luna replace her in the final game or were they co-existing?
- or did Aranea replace her in the final game (because Stella was fighting Noct in one trailer)?
- was Stella of royal line cause she was summoning her own Armigear?

Aranea was seen in early Versus footage and basically dubbed 'dragoon lady' by the fanbase.

Luna and Stella are completely different characters. I don't think I'm allowed to say more than that, heh. (For the record, that's something Tabata has said on one of the ATRs)

edit: Okay, time to be uncharacteristically introspective for a moment.

The Chocobo and Moogle carnival and how it was implemented (as a dream accessible from any save file) kinda hit me, really hard. I mean, say all you want about the (implied) relationship between Luna and Noctis being shallow and all that, but my headcanon around the whole thing is that regardless of whether Noctis dreamt of the carnival before or after Chapter 9, it's really, really just messed up.

He probably spent the entire journey looking forward to finally arriving in Altissia and meeting Luna again. That getting there meant a solution. That it was a destination in itself. Probably dreamt about it from time to time. Getting to Altissia, Meeting up with Luna, figuring out what to do next, celebrating for a while. Maybe it was a recurring dream. Maybe, every time, Noctis woke up with a smile, and continued on his road trip with the bros.

And then they arrive at Altissia. But all too soon, shit goes south. Luna dies, Ignis goes blind, everything is messed up, they have no choice but to keep trekking towards Gralea. And then shit goes further south. And then he dies.

Possibly somewhere inside his psyche, Noctis still maintained this dream of a perfect Altissia that wasn't worrying about the Empire or the Scourge, or Astrals or the Oracle and King or fates or whatever else, and simply just... celebrating. The whole experience of Altissia left such strong emotional scars that Noctis retreats to his ideal, perfect version of Altissia from time to time as a means of coping with what the world and his lineage demanded of him.

And every time, he wakes up back to reality and it hits him that all that isn't meant to be. And he's stuck either in the immediate aftermath trying to come to terms with what actually happened, or post-timeskip where Altissia is but a distant memory because the world is completely screwed by the Scourge and eternal night.

I finished this last night and enjoyed my time with it. The direction was a bit too dramatic for my tastes at times as expected, echoing the thread from a few days ago, overall the story was definitely darker and more grim than I expected.

I never had to grind for gil or AP, I don't remember dying after I figured out how potions/elixirs worked at the beginning, and the end boss fights were relatively easy, but it counts as the first FF game I beat.

Will probably check out some of the things I missed over the next few weeks.

That's after putting the ring onto the finger tho.

Yeah the whole struggle with the ring that Noctis had was a disappointing part of the game to me. He treated carrying the ring and trying to wear it like Frodo did with the one ring as he got closer to Mt Doom, but then when he puts it on, we get a very anti-climactic moment whereas everyone in Kingsglaive had a conversation with the past Kings before being judged. Also, why is it that Noctis didn't get full access to the barrier spell or the thunder magic that even Nyx could wield after receiving the Lucii's power? It would have been cool to have the ability to use single target elemental magic with the ring.

Driving around Lucis today, I see that there is a song from Kingsglaive with the title Princess in it. That got me thinking: outside of the movie, did anyone ever REFER to Luna as Princess? I don't think the empire even did. Was this just a translation error in the movie?

I don't think so but Kingsglaive is weird in the way it handled Luna as they never mention her status as an oracle nor does she use any powers or her trident.

I think they call her a Tenebrae princess at some points in the movie.

"One Tenebrae Princess coming up!" Is a line I remember for some reason.

Is Carbuncle actually an imaginative friend of Noctis since his father gifted him that little Carbuncle figure when he was sick? He only ever appears in Noctis' dreams, tutorials, in easy mode to revive you and like Gentiana secretly in some of Prompto's snaps. At no point does anyone else ever acknowledge he's actually there.

I am only resting at Camps in Chapter 15 (as I never rested due to x2.0/x3.0 EXP modifier being exclusive to Hotels) and it HIT ME HARD when during that one Camp Custscene where Prompto takes your photos he mentions he will show them to Luna when we arrive in Altissia.

That's... not gonna happen, buddy :'(

Well technically they never met during their childhood years except for a few moments since it's an arranged marriage and stuff.

So yeah, their love is non-existent and purely based on looking at pictures.

*Communicating via letters via Umbra.

They have been in contact the entire time.
