I wish Team Ninja would abandon the anime character look for one game. Maybe that would shut some of the trolls up.

:::goes back to sniffing glue::::

Tecmo's advertizing their game is : "Most beautiful in the world!" ... hmm
That remains to be seen but personally I can't wait to see what this game looks like when its finished. Already the alpha-kit version shown at E3 was doing stuff not possible on current consoles. I think and I hope everyone is pleasantly surprised by whatever Tecmo releases...

*edit*
Speaking of Tecmo -- anyone got a pic of Itagaki w/o his shades? I coulda sworn I saw him around 11pm on the Yamanote Line...

I'm interested in seeing this new physics system Itagaki claims the final game would have. He said he looked at physics systems for other games but none of them would work for DoA4 so Team Ninja created a brand new fighting game physics engine of their own for DoA4.

It can be argued that the way the character looks is simply the style they are sticking to and textures and what not would simply ruin that.

Then again I dont give two shits about DoA4 since its fighting system has been broken through every fucking installment so whatever.

That's new girl, not Hitomi.
Anyone has new Fami Xbox, I've heard there are few funny quotes from Itagaki inside again, dissing PS3 or something.

They did so much with the DOA series and Ninja Gaiden in terms of graphics for Xbox, I'm really surprised we are not seeing that level of detail being pushed for 360 - it's almost like they are saying this is still good enough...

In my opinion, DOA4 looked awesome at E3 - but it's certainly not a HUGE jump from DOA Ulitmate - more like a slight hop - but still looks awesome nonetheless.

Can't wait :D

I'm still believing that this is a 'pushed' project to be a killer app @ launch.

DOA4 does look impressive (saw footage on it on G4), but, as many have said, just looks one step above DOA:U. Then again, how much more detailed can you make 'anime' designed characters?

alot more detailed argggg

just look at the cg thats in ninja gaiden

anime != lack of detail

the model looks incredibly smooth to me, i think the problem is, the art style doesnt really show the jump in detail. some incredible lighting and self shadowing would make a huge improvement i think.

I'm not saying anime lacks detail, i'm just saying (specifically with faces) that it's not like you can add facial pores, complex skin textures, or even ultra detailed clothing textures to your typical anime characters (ala DOA) without it looking awkward.

where anime can get very detailed is in character animation and overall artistic design (just look at Katsuhiro Otomo's work)- but we aren't talking about that here, are we?

edit:
I agree with op_ivy's post above.

well at this point I think the barbie doll look is a stylistic choice. Which is fine as it does differentiate the series from all the other fighters. The animation, lighting, clothing, hair, and backgrounds will determine how next gen DOA4 looks.

as terrible as that is, the lighting and shadows would look sooo great for doa4 :(

so to sum up

Japanese Art = Lolita Complex

Wester Art = Sluts with too much eyeshadow

pretty much. Both miss the point. What we really want is Slutty lolitas with too much eyeshadow.

THANK YOU

I'm so tired of Ikaragi or whatever his name is talking about how amazing this game looks. It's just a Xbox 1 game.

dude, if DOA4 were a point-n-click adventure then i'd say the detail is lacking. As a fighting game i'd rather see nice effects, smooth animations than wrinkles or pores

Do you have trouble reading? Itagaki's name was mentioned like five times in this thread.

Or, did you just want to piggyback onto the first troll you saw?

Personally, I think it looks great for what it is. As others have mentioned, the DOA style really doesn't lend itself to skin textures with a lot of detail. Maybe Itagaki will add a version of himself into the game so he can go buck wild with the bump-mapping on his face and everyone can shut the fuck up.
