Asking a developer to stop chasing trends is like asking a sailor to stop adjusting his sails based on the direction of the wind. A completely illogical statement.

Also, mediocre Battle Royale game Off the Grid seemed to have solid launch numbers which suggest a thirst for a new experience in BR is real.
They need to make what they want to make. Not what they think will sell.

I can guarantee you, they didn't all sit together in a room and come up with generic fortnite clone 6.0 as THE GAME they all wanted to make. It was a decision fueled by money and money alone.

And if generic fortnite clone 6.0 is actually THE GAME they genuinely wanted to make, then they need to leave the industry. Period. They have zero creativity and we're better off without them.

I want to see a better shooter wipe Fortnite out of existance...
I doubt that will happen anytime soon.
No other MP game comes as close to having as many content updates as Fortnite receives, nor are they as user friendly when it comes to money spent.

When you start a restaurant, you make food for your customers, not yourself.

Wasn't Fortnite a PUBG clone? How'd that go?

I couldn't imagine working on a game like this... creatively bankrupt, a concoction of suits chasing after trends, only 7 years late. It must be soul sucking creating such a blatant ripoff and knowing that this game might be your last at the company.

Played a couple of rounds and it's actually pretty fun. Tried two heroes and they both seemed good.

Could use some polish, which makes sense considering it's still in development, but it definitely has potential.

No. High quality restaurants are serving food their chefs have spent years learning to prepare. Customers will come to eat at that restaurant because it has good food that the chefs prepare. They want to eat that chefs food.

I dont know. And if it was, great, we dont need 500 more of them. Its crazy and also hilarious how you don't see this as a lack of creativity/straight up corporate heads trying to make a cash grab....

Make the games you want. Just because Game X was successful, doesnt mean your cheap clone will also be. This will be dead on arrival and I guarantee everyone involved knows it.

The Chef doesn't make food his customers don't like. The customers pay the bills.

Do you need 500 more Souls likes? 500 more fighting games? 500 more JRPGs?

I see it.

It's crazy how you don't see that this is the way it's always been. Chasing trends isn't new. The reason why people regurgitate the phrase all the time is because the trends no longer cater to their specific tastes.

Lots of games fail.

Three pages of people shitting on the game and it seems I'm the only one who actually tried it.

I must have watched a dozen trailers I didn't care for on GAF tonight and moved on without shit-posting.

I'd argue there's massively more opportunity for innovation and creativity in those genres, and in practice, that's actually the case, too. And I say this knowing that Souls games, in particular, are wildly oversaturated. There's just way more opportunity to explore new mechanics, world designs, storylines, etc. outside of hero shooters. That's partially because the hero shooter genre is inherently limited from a mechanical standpoint (because every class needs to be tame enough to work in a team-based PVP setting), but also because hero shooters necessarily need to have broad appeal and it's really tough to do that when you're also attempting to carve out some sort of niche. So you get shlock like this - from a design and business standpoint, there is no other approach to this subgenre that's suitably safe. Most other genres do not have those kinds of limitations.

I'm just going to quote the post I put in the 'Legend of Baboo' reveal thread about two minutes ago, I don't have to change a goddamn word:

Man, there is a balls-aching lack of creativity in gaming right now. The hundreds of hours that must've already been spent on this to produce a game that is aesthetically and mechanically indistinct from every other game on the market.

No other shooter pisses off 95% of it's community constantly putting stuff in.. getting you used to using it then ripping it from ranked leaving you with zero mobility options either..
their decision making over this season is burning a lot of players out.

What’d I miss?
I keep hearing this is the best season in a long time?

This is all wrong.

We know this because there's significantly more hit hero shooters than there are hit souls likes. The market for hero shooters is exponentially bigger.

They add fun things that change how you play like Jetpacks and Blank Panther Claws.. which are wonderful for mobility and you adapt your entire gameplay around them..
then they just up and remove them from ranked mid season without any alternative form of mobility (shock waves still exist.. but out of like 100 games I've found them a total of like 6 times).

They vault all of that and now add chainsaws which are perfect mobility again.. they will pull them from ranked again in under a week.. it's annoying to get something.. get used to playing around it.. then have it ripped without any thought on what can replace it just because they can't be bothered to balance it rather than remove it.

Market opportunity is not the same as creative opportunity - I was focused on the latter. That said, the market opportunity also doesn't exist at this point, because it's a subgenre that's been completely cornered by a select few titles. If Overwatch 2 couldn't even make it work, how is anything else supposed to break through? There's more players, but you're not going to reach any of them.

Limiting thought. We heard for nearly a decade how the MOBA genre was cornered by a select few titles and then Deadlock came out.

One backwards assertion that I see repeated online is the assumption that game concepts have been creatively tapped just because we haven't seen a successful new entry in X number of years. Little do people realize how short a time frame 10 years is in gaming, especially considering most games take 6 years to make now.
If Overwatch 2 couldn't even make it work, how is anything else supposed to break through? There's more players, but you're not going to reach any of them.
Overwatch 2 is unbelievably successful. One of the games that reminds me of how foolish online gaming talk is on the whole. Gamers are cavemen in a world of possibilities.

Medieval? I was expecting Demons Souls and got Fortnite, damn.

IKR, Medieval and modern city don't exactly fit together. :messenger_grinning_smiling:

The characters seem to be reasonably fit, attractive folks, that should help them out a little with the players that despised Concord.
