Only interested if it output 240p via SCART RGB, with games designed like on the original Neo Geo (CD, with Redbook audio, without loading times), as far as I am concerned.

Ive never played on a Neo-Geo before, though always checked eBay UK for one for a reasonable price.

I think it's a cool idea. If SNK reckon they can work this then I'm all for it.

The price for a Neo Geo AES is reasonable, but the price of the games... Different ball game altogether.
AES. If you are a crazy woman like me and hunt for complete shock boxes, yes, I have paid well into 4 figures for some late release titles.

However, MVS-AES adapters are relatively cheap and MVS carts(again if you collect kits diff story), are fairly cheap but fakes are everywhere

I don't have faith to 2020 SNK. They aren't the same people who were at the height of what 2D pixel art could be. I also don't have any faith in any 2D game project anymore. 2D graphics now are either heavily pixellated "retro looking" indie junk or adobe flash looking, clinically clean objects with little shading and hand draw animation. Unless they pull off games that look like Cuphead or better i don't see how they will stand out compared to other indie and mobile developers.

Neo.Geo 3 sounded good at the beginning, but then they went on to describe the tank like design and what's not.
Just release a proper NG2 (old MVS) but with modern internals, adopt ArcSys 2.5D for your games and re-release all the classics.

I know what you mean.

But I very much prefer 'heavily pixellated' graphics to the smooth and clean graphics of cuphead.
I wouldn't even call it pixel-art.

Man, who fucking cares? Are people not sick of these half-assed retro consoles yet? Even if there are new games, SNK isn't half the developer they used to be, and there's no reason to launch a console for them.

I like pixel art myself but indie developers go too far with this. Back in the day of CRT TVs the games were filtered out, we weren't supposed to see such obviously noticeable pixels, unless we were playing on Atari 2600 and Intellivision or something.

I also agree that Cuphead isn't pixel art at all. But it's far from the shitty adobe flash looking animations. It's more like traditional, old skool animation but the best thing about it is it's huge amount of hand drawn frames. Thing is, nobody is passioned or crazy enough to sit and draw all these frames, except the Cuphead Developer. I don't expect SNK to do it (back in the mid 90's they would).

It's also android/emulation based which is fucking stupid considering the neogeo audience are probably the most willing to spend bug bucks on an accurate fpga based system.

I would definitely be interested in it. I held off buying Neo Geo Mini and its variants - but if they come up with something good... will definitely buy one. But as much as I loved my old Neo Geo console back in my college days (only had Samurai Showdown 2 & KoF95, as each of those carts were quite expensive), and also had Neo Geo CD for Samurai Showdown RPG... but I just want more variety of new games to be available, not just fighters and Metal Slugs.

I find diffficult to imagine what can a full console offering can bring to the table for consumers. I want to play a new Metal Slug but not sure if I'd buy a new console for that.

Older games are pretty much everywhere now.

Neo Geo games are cool and have a great look, but I just don't find my interest needle moving up for this.

Bring back the 90's!

If it's played well, even if the console is not even Switch level powerful, I see potential in Japan in the long run

Never played a Neo Geo console but I'm aware how under appreciated their games were. I'm mildly curious/interested in this.

I'm actually really curious to see what this is. In arcade/FEC places the exa-Arcadia came out a year ago and I thought it'd be neat if there were a "consolized" version of something like that. There's room in the market for another platform holder, long as they can provide a unique offer that the others aren't necessarily doing.

SNK could technically leverage their arcade roots and do something to service both that and the home console space. Either them or Sega. But I'm talking something more like a serious mainline entry. I don't think SNK are doing something quite like that, but again I'm very interested to see what they've got going on here.

SNK and NeoGeo aren't the same as they've used to be. Isn't that nowadays combo of HongKong/Korea/Saudi with a sprinkle of Japan on top? I've lost track.

Don't count on sprite games unless Saudi prince will want to release 90% finished Garou 2.

Having said all that they could be in a much, much worse place than they are now.

KOFXIV while with 3d graphics generation behind still retains the KOF feel, gameplay and huge character roster. Samurai Shodown has hugely improved graphics with gameplay very reminiscent of SS1 and 2. They didn't mess up the formula.

There are still passionate people at SNK that know how SNK games should feel and play and that gives me hope for future games of "NEW SNK."

Yes, the glory days of SNK artful 2D work is gone and will never come back but like I said, they could be in a much worse place now.

On a side note I wonder if Neo Geo 3 will be a machine that can handle their newest console games like SS or KOFXV.

A new NEOGEO is meaningless without exclusives. I have lot of doubts this will turn out to be a mere emulator machine instead of a proper console. Even the new Coleco can be labeled as "a new console".
