First iPhone 6/6 Plus Reviews

Is there anything in iOS that really does a great job of taking advantage of the screen real estate like Touchwiz does on the Note 4? I know TouchWiz isn't everyones favorite Android skin, but you can't deny that some they did with the Note 3 and continuing to do with the Note 4 is very impressive.

Until iOS on the iPhone 6+ adds some more great features, it seems like the Note 4 is probably the king of the phablets still.

iPhone 6 on the other hand...

Improves in every way and Apple fans will finally feel the joy of a good sized screen and long battery life. I can see the idle times being insane on iPhone 6+ especially.

As far as what I read in reviews, the 6+ doesn't scale apps appropriately. One review specifically mentioned that Twitter will only show 4 tweets, despite the huge screen.

Something that should have been fixed for release for sure but hopefully will be fixed sooner rather than later.

This is all app specific. Right now the iPhones just scale existing apps. It's on the developers to optimize for the new phones.

One review mentioned that Google apps look like ass cause they aren't optimized.

Apps using native OS text should be fine, but graphics and custom text seems like it doesn't look as nice.

those are updates devs would make to their apps

I'm sure a lot of the big name apps will be updated by the devs within the first couple of weeks.

I swear there were GAFers in the past who ridiculed the 4.7 inch screen size, but are now getting an iPhone 6, lol. I really wish I remembered who they were so I could call their ass out.

Seems like the 6+ just makes the same picture bigger compared to 6, doesn't show more information or make intelligent use of the display.

Why?

Apps need to be updated to use the extra real estate. Some apps are already updated. Devs need to update. See all the posts just above yours.

Wasn't me, that's been my biggest complaint since the iPhone 4 and why I switched to Android for a bit. Dat iOS is sucking me back in tho.

If people are updating to the latest iOS device they only have the choice to go bigger.

Did he really bring his reviewing phone down to the Apple Store with tons of people lining up just to shoot some shots of him casually holding it to his ears for everyone to see? Jesus.

Ah, Pierce's reviews are hardly worth reading anyway. He bounces wildly in his opinions, and his comparisons between android, iOS and WP are just bizarre. He'll knock one Android phone for something, and praise it in another when they do the exact same thing.

In my opinion 4.7 is the perfect screen size anyway. People that have stuck with iOS for awhile will see the light once they use the iPhone 6 for awhile and then go back to the 5S or earlier model to see the difference.

As someone who switched to an HTC One for a little while I definitely like a larger screen than what Apple has been offering. I just prefer the iOS ecosystem.

Now I get the best of both worlds.

Exactly. You guys think internet fanboys are stupid and ridiculous? I remember when I was in school someone told me my Galaxy Nexus was huge... like I was holding an iPad Mini. Christ, lol

It's actually fantastic. I'm glad people sticking with iOS will get to experience the world of a larger screen. I know I personally couldn't go to a smaller screen.

To be fair when I got my Galaxy S3 after I got back from Korea I thought it was huge until I got used to it.

YEAH THAT'LL SHOW 'EM!!!

Well you know it was stupid of them because it was still possible to easily use a phone one handed still (see Moto X (2013)) and get great screen real estate for browsing and texting. It was incredibly naive thinking. If you're talking about a phone the size of a One Plus... that's a different story because it's legitimately more difficult if you want to use it one handed and I personally will not get a device that size.

So many Android fans posting attacks on people they met from years ago or the perfect Apple fanboy stereotype they've put together in their minds. Chill out and let people enjoy their new device, sheesh

What? He said right in the review that Apple is playing catch-up.

The Verge review is fairly unimpressed. I think Android fans just had their "lol verge sucks cocks" posts ready to go before watching it.
And how is being fairly unimpressed with a phone deserving of being the highest rated phone ever for a site?

I feel like they were more unimpressed with the missed potential and opposed to the phone itself. They straight up said at the end of the video review that it could have been so much more but and in my opinion that doesn't necessarily mean it's not their favorite phone to date.

Resolution/density/size doesn't make the display better, it simply makes it higher res.

And both sports great IPS panels, with the 6 getting one with contrast ratio that trumps the plus.
Display advantages for the Plus: higher resolution, higher ppi, larger screen, more real estate.

Display advantages for the 6? Well, I guess its contrast ratio is 1/13th better on paper.

I have an iPhone 5 and am gonna get the iPhone 6 because it will probably be my last upgrade ever without losing unlimited data from verizon. I really only use my phone for twitter, e-mails, texting, calls, Uber, and that's pretty much it.

As someone with only a passing interest in smartphones. I mean I like it and use it all the time, but feel no kind of crazy rabbid brand loyalty or anything, I think I realize how people not really that into videogames feel about insane fans. Guys at my work with samsungs have been trying to convert me for months, with this insane passion and rigor. I really don't want to burst their bubbles, and just be like "hey man, I don't care that much it's not that important to me.", but man it gets old quick, This must be how casual game fans feel when they hear me and some of the other guys at work totally geek out over games.

so is thhe 6 plus screen about the size of a galaxy s3? I held one of those months ago and was actually quite jelous (I have a 4s), the screen was huge but it still looked like it would go on a pocket fine (which i thought it wouldnt)

I think it is bigger. Around the size of a galaxy note 3.

I'll out myself. I have never been a fan of the big phones, and I really wish Apple made a 4 inch iPhone 6 model (6 Mini!), but my 4S is getting long in the tooth, and I'm long overdue for an upgrade. I don't have any choice but to go with the 4.7 inch model, as the 6+ is definitely too big for me.

All of that said, I have a feeling once I've used the 6 for awhile, I'll come to really like the bigger screen. I just wish it was a bit more compact, but I'll adjust.

Also FYI no reason for you all to attack me about not wanting iOS/iPhones in the first place seeing as I used to use iOS and wish I still did. Other phones currently just do more of what I want/expect out of a phone and it's as simple as that.

Except that the way you wrote that drive-by, people would obviously conclude that the 1GB of RAM was enough to push you in another direction, which makes zero sense. If you simply felt that other phones offer more of what you want in a phone, that's perfectly fine. That's not what you wrote originally, though.

You'll get used to it in like 2 days and won't be able to go back for sure. That screen looks gorgeous.

I'll cop it too, I was never for the bigger phones, I held a Note in my hand a few years back and thought it was way too big.

When they announced the 6 I was just going to go with the 4.7inch version, but with the reviews going on about how good the battery life is... I'm now considering a +.

So conflicted.

Good to see both Verge reviews say how ugly the back is. The fuck was Apple thinking with that ugly ass antenna design.
I haven't seen a single person fail to mention it, and they all have something negative to say about it.

A kid at my school actually said "I was considering getting one, but those antenna lines seal the deal not to".

Now, to be fair, we go to a design school, and we're all pretentious design snobs...

The thing that made me finally settle on the smaller 6 was the thought of carrying such a large phone out at night when I'm at a bar or restaurant, I don't want an iPad Mini Mini in my pocket all night.

Went with the 4.7in Gold 64GB model. I was debating internally all day at work. I had the opportunity to walk around with Note 3 since I work at RadioShack and it was just too big. Luckily we were still taking pre-orders so I'm locked in. :)

These kids must be too young to remember AntennaGate when the iPhone 4 came out. Can't please 'em all.

It certainly is uncharacteristically ugly for Apple. They just stand out so much. I really hope I can secure a Space Gray version, as they don't look as bad there from what I've seen in the renders.

Come on.. This is an Apple product. An ugly design element is a far greater sin than an cell phone that doesn't get reception.

You'll be fine. It would have been better if Apple was able to make the 4.7 screen as compact as the Moto X (2013). Even the Xperia Z3 Compact is much more compact (4.6 inch screen though).
