First Japanese PS4 commercial

Saw this on PS3 "what's new" page. Yes, we're getting it last, thanks for rubbing it in whilst barely showing any games or features.

I think you're going to see more than one commercial. Don't worry you'll see plenty of gameplay in the next commercial.

idk i've witness 3 gens of the playstation coming to japan first and the US later, and if the same thing happened this gen and they showed this commercial to the US, i'd be fucking pumped

More will likely come .

This will not resonate with Japanese consumers in the slightest. It'll probably piss off the guys on 2ch with its Western focus too.

That being said, PS4 will sell like warmed-through cakes however they advertise it.

Tried google searching the lyrics, can't seem to find the song. :/

I thought it was an excellent commercial. I already have a PS4 and it made me want to go play it. lol

We have a Japanese expert here.

Ha, not really. But still, you know those 2ch guys are often not huge on Western things. I figure seeing the ad will set some of them off. Still, I'm sure Sony will be producing lots of different material nearer to the release.

I'd like to think the more connected generation of gamers in Japan know enough about the world that they aren't insulted by this commercial trying to tell them 'time to join the party', but what do I know.

I'm in Japan watching TV with my in-laws right now, and this commercial just aired. No one in the room really reacted (not gamers). I'll have to ask my Japanese friends what they thought of it.

So now anonimous board poster representing a whole country?

Do you really think Japanese people don't know what NEW YORK, SYDNEY and PARIS are? Seriously? SYDNEY maybe I'll give you, but they've never seen NEW YORK or PARIS at all. . .in their lives.

Some of these comments make me think the "basement dweller. . ." stereotype has some water.

That's besides the point, I am aware the average Japanese person can read Romanji and know a fair amount of English words, its still comes off strange IMO.

FYI I have worked for several Japanese companies based in London, so don't be a dick. (I don't pretend to know it all, but its not like I know nothing either)

Not only is it showing a bunch of western countries, with western text, but it has western music as well, if I was Japanese I would probably be thinking its the equivalent of a middle finger.

You're not japanese, and don't live in Japan either.

I think your perception of japanese youth is as skewed as can be.

Would you consider yourself an expert though?

Mixed reactions in this thread.

For me, it started poorly as though to say "your last - but even so you should be grateful."

It got better though and catches the hype feeling.

Did you not read where I said I don't pretend to know it all.

I added this because I know what GAF is like, grasping at the slightest chance to undermine someone's opinion.

Maybe, but I am sure its still not as skewed as some.

The name of the song is god-damn impossible to find.
Soundhound and Shazam know nothing, the lyrics tell me nothing, it's strange.

It goes straight up club-banger at the end, wish I could keep it going. Could it be a custom song made for this commercial or something?

iPhone outsells all Japanese phones now. Times have changed.

I dont think there are that many japanese people who hate the west that much, that showing romaji and using western music is the equivalent of a middle finger.

I think PS4 is going to struggle in Japan (until it gets games). Wish it had a better launch window.

It has games A plenty :

Assassin's Creed 4
Battlefield 4
Call of Duty: Ghosts
Doki-Doki Universe
Dream Club: Host Girls on Stage
Driveclub
Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends
FIFA 14
Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn beta
Hohokum
Killzone: Shadow Fall
Knack
Natural Doctrine
Puzzle 4 Sudoku
Tottemo E Mahjong Plus
Resogun
Strider
Watch Dogs
Yakuza: Restoration

Hell . the launch lineup is arguably better then what the west got .

That commercial will do next to nothing for gamers here. At this point I really don't care that much about the PS4 itself, I just want to play Ryu ga gotoku - Ishin on nextgen level. For the game itself I'm really hyped, but for the console itself not so much anymore.. sadly.

The only weird thing about this launch is the fact besides the Amazon pre orders, we don't know how big or small the hype is for Japan.

what a horrible, lazy boring unimaginative waste of lots of money. Where the fucks my REAL japanese commerical

What the fuck? You do realize this is not the only PS4 commercial that will be shown in Japan, just a teaser to build hype.

Or is this a joke post and is my sarcarsm detector just not working?

Not a joke post and just because its a teaser doesnt make my opinion of it change.

There are Japanese who like western culture just as there are westerners who like Japanese culture but lets not kid ourselves that there isn't xenophobia on both sides.

Granted younger generations are a lot more tolerant because they don't have the same experiences as their parents/grandparents lived through, but some of that will be passed on, this is the case all over the world regardless of culture/nationality.

This is totally off topic though, I never implied hate anyway.
