First Look at The Witcher 4 Tech Demo

It's a tech demo with Unreal first with Witcher as an example. its an advance vertical slice they believe they can duplicate zone wise I guess.

Game will be slightly less amazing than this for sure.
That was disappointing. They were better off just showing the gameplay on their workstations to create excitement at least; Where are them screenshots coming from? It's 2025, upload a video feed, just terrible my goodness.

Need some actual combat gameplay for me to believe this. Hope QA is up to the task this time.

EDIT: I wonder if anything can be implied from this tech demo to the next Halo. I'm still hopeful...and hopeless.

Where is the console at so you can make people excited? I grew up on developers that would actually show you the shit running on the hardware device.

This looks good but this could just be the PC version running on a RTX 5090. How are we supposed to know this?
next up they will say that it was running on a PS5 hardware comparable PC. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

It looks real nice, but I hate the town art. It looks like Horizon, why? I don't get the colors, it doesn't make sense in that setting for me.

Looks fucking great, as expected. This game is gonna be lit af.

Nanite foliage was the biggest "wow"-moment and of course the fact it's running at 60fps on a base PS5!

Edit: Tbh, this really is a showcase for UE5 because getting up performance while still looking this good is what I've been missing in many games made in UE5.

It's similar to what a Polish medieval town looked like. Despite what lots of portrayals show, towns during Medieval Europe were very colourful. Lots of buildings were painted in bold colours for example. Obviously this is a fictional world, but the inspirations are obvious.

The demo they are showing is clearly upscaled from a low resolution and blurry, so this could be on PS5.
When they show the nanite stuff in detail after the demo, you can clearly see it's running at 4K (probably DLSS though) and on a PC.

ok, I guess it looks kinda disjointed for me.

Christ on a bike lads, this looks incredible to my eyes, running at 60fps on base PS5!?! Along with R* these two Devs are really showing some next generation shit on current gen hardware, cannot wait for this

Bookmark this. Five years from now, when the game finally drops and the internet melts down because it looks nothing like the tech demo, just remember, this dude said this right before they rolled the footage.

No matter what happens, Witcher 4's launch won't touch the disaster class of No Man's Sky. Worst case? It's another CP2077 situation, buggy as hell, but hey, at least there'll be an actual game to play on day one (not 8 years, 9 months, and 22 days before it get's close to being an actual game).

The game won't look anywhere near this good. Her cape didn't clip once on her swords nor horse, this is impossible during real gameplay.

The context of "stepping things up" is moving from Red Engine > UE5 and collaborating with them to achieve this. Regardless of how the final product looks, they stepped up from 2015 Witcher 3 to UE5 Witcher 4 (whenever this comes out). This screengrab isn't some "gotcha".

Looks nice and Ciri looks significantly better compared w/ her CG model. They didn't necessarily change anything in response to online reactions though. CG trailer Geralt looks vastly different from his in-game counterpart too.

The game will looks just like what we saw today. Book it!

Even if I think the model was refined rather than fully changed, the real difference is that she doesn't look angry anymore — and that changes everything.

It's a bad habit among some Western developers, especially with DEI-driven design: women constantly look angry, dull, with hostile expressions and grimaces.

Here, she looks more radiant, and that completely shifts how you perceive her. Same goes in real life — beauty with a constant scowl is a total turn-off.

I.E. resting bitch face.

The joke I didn't clearly express (no fault of yours) is that when stuff like this happens, gamers usually get blamed for overhyping, while developers often get a pass because 'well, it's their job to say whatever to sell the game.' That's not always the case, but I've definitely seen it happen.

It looks good but not as good as i was expecting it to look. I'm actually playing the enhanced version of W3 at the moment and this reminds me of it a lot, just with more fine detail.

Not only that but its not even W4, its just a tech demo. Remember the W3 demo's?.

Dont get your hopes up until the game is in our hands.

This tech demo will sit nicely alongside the Killzone 2 tech demo.
Thing is i thought the Killzone Shadow Fall reveal was more impressive. The Killzone 2 teaser was obviously cgi to me, and i cant believe so many people fell for it.
The Shadow Fall E3 reveal blew me away at the time,. It looked really next gen.

Agreed. I simply can't understand the grumpy, unimpressed reactions of so many people here. This tech is at least a generation ahead compared to what we've seen in the best looking games on PC.

No way. The PC version of AVATAR looks better imo, and i recently played through the whole game and dlc's. I'd even say Red Dead 2 maxed out looks better, or at least more realistic. And there is zero doubt the PC version of GTA 6 will blow this game away.
Hell the part where Ciri is walking around the town, i'd say HZD Remastered easily matches it.
