First Look at The Witcher 4 Tech Demo

Whelp.

So much for 'gameplay'.

Between Rockstar's "equal parts gameplay and cutscenes" and now this we sure have been getting good marketing gems this gen

It's a bit sad though, I really thought it was a little slice of the actual game being shown for technical purposes. Now knowing this it's not even worth thinking about stuff like their 60fps quote since it has nothing to do with the actual game.

Don't know whats hard in understanding what I said and I won't repeat it

We will get gameplay from the actual game anyways and it will look the same if not even better

Honestly. If this is really running on a base PS5, alot of devs should ask themselves what they did for the last 4-5 years.
It took Epic 5 years and 6 versions to get UE5 in the state where a game can:
- Have hardware lumen/ray tracing run at 60 fps on consoles
- Have nanite support trees and foliage
- Stream big open worlds without hitches

Avatar and AC shadows look almost as good as this on consoles. Wukong too.

Looks awesome, no doubt the full release will have far better effects, but i seriously doubt a 4090 will be able to do 1440p60 in this.

Yikes the graphics looks like a true next gen game it was insane.

Still one really have to be careful when it comes to tech demos like what happened to Cyberpunk.

100% But I'm one of those rare beasts that don't mind getting my rocks off after the bar only to wake up with an ugly chick. The nut still counts.

Rockstar has always done their trailers in such a way. They will release a 'gameplay" focused one 3 to 4 months out from launch. As they always do.
I know and I never questioned the trailer or the game's quality, anyone who does must've never played RDR2 on a fucking base xbox or ps4. But that quote sounds silly nonetheless, they should let the game do the talking.

It's just corny for people to develop gamer's amnesia as if we don't have these company's style of marketing to draw from. This isn't something just "new to this gen."
yep. you can go back and watch the individual trailers for Michael, Franklin, and Trevor and they all use cinematic angles for gameplay missions featuring each character. All the chases, setpieces, and shootouts in those trailers are in the final game. just not in a cutscene format.

there is always a chance for a small downgrade, but these consoles are incredibly powerful as long as you target common sense resolutions and framerates.

well the tech demo trailer does but it's low res at that.
Until the game comes out it's hard to claim that. Of course the preview looks better but it's not running on my ps5 pro.
I will be there to compare when it comes out!

We know how UE5 games look on ps5 and even on pro. It might be a blurry low res mess
Fair enough, it being so far off as well and that CDPR have a track record of downgrading the graphics somewhat (although their games are visually world class). The foliage though is best I've seen yet and hopefully they achieve this and more.

They responded because the internet is a bunch of autists.
To me that just reinforces my argument that they should've just shut the fuck up. People will talk shit regardless.
I don't believe this will be the case for GTA VI and Rockstar but I do fear CDPR might regret their choice of words in this presentation, that 60fps shit will come back to haunt them in their dreams if the final game doesn't have a 60fps mode.

Let's just hope the same mistakes aren't made as TW3 and the complete renderer downgrade, but I'm not holding my breath.

It will all depend on the optimisation my friend
I actually believe them saying this demo runs 60 on a base ps5, problem is it has a lot of low quality and unfinished assets (look at the marketplace, visible even with the YT compression) not to mention the effects, notably lighting seem very soft, i fully expect the release version to have pathtracing (otherwise ill be pissed off) and many other improvements.

Itll likely be the best showcase of various UE5 tech and optimisation across the board as far as UE5 is concerned since theyll work on improving the tools instead of just using them, but with everything maxed itll no doubt be extremely demanding.

60 fps on base ps5 with what IQ? Because doubt they can keep a decent native base resolution to scale with TSR if they want achieve a real 60 fps.

I think the biggest red flag is how polished it looks this far away from release. Even for a demo, there are so many systems working well with perfect fps, amazing visuals, no pop in one an old ps5 AND UE5? lmao

And the fact that CD Project red has a history of unapologetically putting up bullshit graphics? Not a good sign.

Reminder... ac shadows looks like that without shitty UE5. no lod changes visible here at all.
Voxel trees sound like a waste of resources. video looks low res (but it's not even ps5 pro footage)

It's last chance for ue5 to impress me. It needs to look AT LEAST better than ac shadows on pro
I hate when people see cool new tech and say shit like this.

We know Coalition has done nothing but work on Unreal 5 since the Matrix demo at the earliest stages, and their game is likely to be 60 fps, and all we have seen is 2 characters fighting in 1 room so far.

There's just no reason to think this is anything other than a tech demo showcasing their goals for several years from now. They do this every time. Maybe they'll get close this time, but we have to wait years to see.

It's a tech demo with Unreal first with Witcher as an example. its an advance vertical slice they believe they can duplicate zone wise I guess.

Game will be slightly less amazing than this for sure.

We need to see first UE 5.6 game before W4, to know can console run 60fps or not

The new features of the latest version of the engine have been revealed during this year's edition of State of Unreal, and summarized in a video which showcases hardware ray tracing enhancements that boost Lumen Global Illumination performance, faster geometry streaming for smoother loading of massive static worlds, an intuitive redesign of Motion trails, revamped Tween Tools and redesigned Curve editor, procedural physics via the new Physics Control rig, MetaHuman creation tools now being embedded in the engine with brand-new features, simplified user interface and more, and smoother and more efficient GPU spawning at runtime.
