Taking a dump in your pants is a hell of a lot better than what DM might have commited himself to do at release...

Well aside from what I think of the screens and such, I think that this is a great marketing move by EA. Everything about this whole sneak peak seems right, from the timing to the content. It would mean a lot more if there was some actual competition, yes, I don't disagree. But a smart move like this can increase investor confidence...I'm guessing.

if madden looks and animates like that nike commercial i will sh*t my pants.

After watching the video again, I think it's totally possible for the game to animate like this. The main thing this commercial is doing is quick camera cuts and sweeps across the field which give a sense of faster pace, but if you look at each individual animation (like when Vick dodges the sack) you can see that it's stuff that this generation's Madden is even close to. Of course it can't be played at that angle so the feel isn't as realistic. Lighting is what impresses me about the commercial, when T.O is first shown he looks human.

the animation in that video has some really really really

really

nice motion capturing, just watch when they are lining up before the snap, the way the guys fidget and move is unseen in current video games. Id love to see this in next gen games, but i think mocap THAT good is extremely fucking expensive, so if we see it it wont be often.

You know this brings up an interesting point. It may be impossible to put animations of that calibre in a one off and done game, but in a game like Madden, or MLB baseball, or Fight Night, or any other number of sports games we'll see year after year, it may not be a horrible initial investment knowing that a large portion of the animations will be used from year to year. Consider that we will see at least five 'next-gen' Madden titles (just like we are seeing 01-06 on PS2), and that each of these games will see release across multiple consoles. You are literally releasing 15 games (not counting portables, of course) with one core set of animations and whatever else they decide to add throughout the yearly updates.

My underwear is moist.

Umm, you guys are delusional. This is the nike commercial (low rez). Madden 360 won't even come CLOSE to emulating this beauty. EVERY single player here has custom annimations, uber ray traced lighting, ambience.....

look for it ONLY ON PS3. :D

I just watched the Nike Commercial, I had not seen it before....I will tell you guys, that Xbox360 Madden 2006 will not rival the graphics in that commercial. as much as I would want it to. But guess what? the same goes for PS3 (and Rev) Madden 2007, or *any* football games on the new consoles. they will not rival the Nike commercial in realtime. be it actual gameplay or even realtime cutscenes & replays. And no, neither will late-generation football games (Madden 2009, 2010) on the new consoles look like the commercial.

what we are looking at in that Nike commercial, graphically, is what will take (need) the power of Xbox3, Gamecube3/Rev2 and PlayStation4 to achieve, in game / realtime / in replays

in other words, Madden 2011 or 2012 :)

Will it be hard to have good animations with these graphics? I remember EA saying with NBA Live that if they used better graphics the gameplay would suffer greatly...

My question basically is, wat do graphics have to do with animations?

The whole reason for bring ESPN/2K up is the fact that their games look generally look better

I'd really love some of that shit you all smoke when you watch an ESPN game in motion and try and tell me it looks better than Madden.

They both have to be loaded into the system memory (along with everything else) while you play. There is a tradeoff and a fine balance that has to be acheived to keep a steady framerate with all that detail and the amount of possible animations. It's why the ESPN games look so nice but animate so weirdly.

ESPN and Madden were pretty much tied in animations...i think.

ESPN- Throwing motions, tackles, and it felt like you were going against a real person on the OL..(more responsive), also the spin was a lot more realistic.

Madden-Running, catching,....

Im not comparing the two... just pointing out what i saw.

I own Madden on PS2 and ESPN on Xbox. The only animation that sucks horribly is ESPNs running animation. They both have thier tradeoffs here and there. IMO ESPN especially in its cutscenes has animated players. By animated I mean they are more active and fun to watch than in Madden. I'm sorry but ESPN gets the nod for animations outside of the gameplay. Ingame Madden gets the nod. However I prefer the way ESPNS QB's drop back.

Funny how these screens bring out the hate in everyone.

The xbots bash them because they are made by a company they feel slighted their favorite console.

The sony guys hate it because they know if the shots are real then it guarantees a successful launch for the xbox sequel and they won't be able to play it for a few months unless they take that unholy plunge in to darkness.

The pc guys hate it because they know its going to be awhile before someone makes a sports game that looks that good for that thing they just spent a couple of grand on.

Good. Use your aggressive feelings. Let the hate flow through you!

I'll save that hate for people not companies. :D

What do you think of the reactions so far to these screens, nath.

I'm glad it seems to be getting everyone excited. I cant be too articulate about it because it would be a little to revealing ;) I just can't wait until you guys see the finished product I hope the big fans will be really impressed. This is also my first game so seeing things come together is just beyond description for me.

I agree with Sonny Boy on pretty much everything here. Madden has strengths, ESPN has strengths and they BOTH have weaknesses. ESPN's imperfections are no worse than Madden's. ESPN had pretty much everything going better than Madden, asides from a majority of the animations, some plays and a few other modes like Madden's training camp, which is pretty good. I wouldn't complain at all about this deal, if 2k and Tiburon merged, a best of both worlds deal.

Doesn't that pretty much sum it up? :lol

Who cares out of gameplay? The guys run like they have a stick up their ass,you have the always hilarious "The Matrix" falling animations when you go for an INT.Nothing flows smoothly in that game, some of them look impressive, but there is just no flow to them at all which makes it all seem really weird instead of really good.

It does matter. It matters because that is one cog out of the entire puzzle. It'd be crazy to expect them to have it down pat in such little time, if they had been developing Football sims for 1000 years like EA than maybe they'd be further along. For the short time they were there I feel they did a terrific job and accomplished a lot. They were making a thorn in EA's side, but it was a small one.

You're right, I just finished playing some ESPN and I agree with a lot of what you said. I hate the running animation. The ball physics feel floaty, the DB's are inept and are hooked into the Matrix. However its still a good game with a lot of new features that aren't in Madden. We'll never know how much it could have improved.

That's the thing, the game really hasn't improved since it's conception on the Dreamcast, the only thing they did right was presentation, but as I've stated a million times,I don't care about that fluff,it gets skipped after about the second viewing.

I hope the next pic comes out at 12 EST like last night :D

Personally I think the best feature the 2K series had was the lack of Madden's annoying voise and Maddenisms (ass kissing phrases)

Sure I understand the draw his name has on the series, but god I can't wait till he's out and EA uses a new play by play guy and color commentator.

I was just thinking.......... don't the Madden games usually lag behind other NFL games in graphics with each new gen ?

Just curious if EA got past their issuse with better coders for graphics, or if they are on par and the series will make huge leaps in graphics as usuall.

Madden looked 10x better than NFL2K on the DC...Madden still animates 10x better than any other football game released this gen.People see still screens of ESPN and think OMG so real! :lol

Come on maaaaaaaaan, I'm talking about comparisons fron the same console.

But then again I could very well recalling incorectly with this gen, now that I think back on those goofball refs from 989's fiasco. LOL

Everytime I see that ref pic it reminds me of the lil blond kid from "meet the fockers", asshoooooooooooole.
hehe

And I was talking about the Xbox versions of Madden and ESPN,Madden animates better.Have you even played either game or are you, like I said, just looking at still screens and basing it off that?

And that pic is...hawt :D Too much Eagles and Giants damnit :P

Cool depth of field effects. And maybe that's the way to deal with a spectator audience in sports titles. A blur of motion. :D

All the players seem to have the same body type :( I don't know who Mr "69" is, but the number leads me to believe he's some sort of lineman and yet he looks to be about a solid 230 :D Anything is the billboard seems to be a Bud ad...we all know beer ads are not allowed in games....hmmm...

No doubt players in Madden animate better, my post was more of a 'thinking out loud, curious' than an opinion.

Day 4 pic...hope it shows up. Looks good. :D

DCX

I want now...shit thats hot.

That looks to be the kickoff or return team so you can't really say 69 is SUPPOSED to be a lineman because usually scrub special teams players dont get the highest number priority. That looks amazing anyway.

something doesnt look quite right with this picture

its called the ugly stick. Seriously. What happened?

a) their arms are like sardines.
b) they're starting now to look like bad CG. (like a bad made for kids tv cg series)

Their arms look like slabs of gyro meat.

:-/

Technically it looks pretty impressive, I suppose. Really need to see it in motion to accurately judge, though.

Yea man,cuz there are like a million games that make this look like trash!Seriously,at first you all dont believe, now you say it looks like crap :lol
