First Metal Gear Solid 4 News?

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
Apparently the new director on the game will be the same director from Zone Of The Enders 2. What is his name and what other games has he done?

I still have yet to play ZOE2. (A crime, I know. I need to play it, Castlevania LOI, and ICO, all of which are sitting on my shelf!)

Shuyo Murata?

play ICO, then ZOE2, then LoI

if he's doing the next Metal Gear game, the series is in good hands.

Heh, he has the birthdate as me...Dec 30th

Yep, ZOE 2 kicked ass

Damn good hands!
But Kojima is the closest thing to Spielburg we have in videogames...

Murata is definatly the Lucas to Kojima's Spielburg.

If anything, he's David Fincher to Kojima's Ridley Scott.
Don't insult two brilliant filmmakers like that. That's just uncalled for.

This worries me, as ZOE2 -- behind all the flashy particle effects -- pretty much blows.

oh man, you better take that back

Not that this makes MGS3 a potential ZOE3. The guy has talent. I'm confident he can come up with a more than decent MGS and hopefully add some personal spin to it.

Thumbs up Murata!

What's the source of this "info"?

I'm not sure which magazine; might be the latest Famitsu. I was told about this from a friend via his friend, who lives in Japan, bought the magazine, and e-mailed him the info after he read it. ^_^;

I wouldn't say that ZOE2 blows...but its cut-scenes are certainly grade-A BORING SHIT, I'm not too confident on this guy carrying on with the MGS franchise.

That's one of the key things I was thinking of. They yap on almost on MGS2 levels, except that all the dialogue and story sucks terrible amounts of gross stuff.

Am I the only one who wants to see Liquid come back? Maybe a clone of him, and this time he establishes another Outer Heaven?

I hope Kojima must of just got bored with Metal Gear and wants to be known for other achievments.
Whether he likes it or not Metal Gear Solid ( 1-3 ) will always be his crown jewels.

Not as cool as sharing the same birthdate as Hideo Kojima, 24th of August baby yeah!

Although he is exactly 10 years older than me :lol

Well, yeah, this is a bit disheartening but I'm sure Kojima will be involved in the story completely and hopefully the cutscenes, trailer editing(absolute classics since MGS2), and the initial game design. Maybe add touches of his humor. But yeah, I have a feeling you won't get that consistent feel of his influence always behind the scenes. I loved that about MGS3, you could feel him as a director behind the game. He's my favorite videogame director ever personally. Hopefully he gets right on the next gen systems and gets some original stuff out. Something with a great story and characters, not like the gameboy game he made. His talent is too great for such a small game.

I think his end of directing MGS games is just a natural progression for him as a director. What film director do you know went beyond 3 movies never losing a touch of quality. In fact, getting better with each movie? I can't think of one. Hell, count the 2 msx games and it's 5 fantastic games. I wish he would have wrapped the story up in the future and tied all loose ends but he made an amazing trilogy despite some criticism along the way. In any case, he advanced gaming toward true cinema. Making bold moves, classic characters, amazing scenes, gripping story... Kojima's just my hero :)

If you haven't opened LoI, just return it. Better yet, find a copy of Aria of Sorrow and exchange it for that.

Shuyo Murata is also responsible for writing the MGS2 text story about the paranoid reporter who goes investigating Shadow Moses after getting the disc. He's also the guy who wrote all the radio conversations regarding movies in MGS3 (most of Paramedic's dialogue) as well as directing ZoE2 and Guy Savage. I say he's more than suited to direct MGS4 as long as Fukushima is still writing the rest of the codec stuff, and the rest of the team stays on (Kojima will no doubt write the story and produce the game).

Also I think it is extremely unfair to Kojima to say that this is a little disheartening. He obviously wants to move on, the fans obviously want more, so he could either do this (train younger staff to take over him) or he could say fuck it the James Cameron/Terminator 3 way until Konami decides it needs another Metal Gear Solid and asks Igarashi to take over. :D

MGS4 is for PS3 right? it better be. I think most of the top developers, Konami among them, have pushed the PS2 to near its limit. I cant see a MGS4 being that much better than MSG3. not the same way that MGS3 was over MGS2.

Well, I'm just saying it's sad to see his reign end because he's been simply amazing. Because I respect him so much that's why it's a bit dissapointing
