first reactions to the Xbox360 ?

E3 is not here yet I know but from what we have seen so far are you convinced next gen is coming later this year ?

well im disappointed, seems like im going to have to wait till mid 2006 to see the real stuff and Sony would have grabbed my attention by then so im concerned right know. :(

from the games we have seen(so far) I dont think they justify me putting £300 down this fall. Ive said before im happy with my xbox 1 and after what I have seen I still am.

Looks like a good launch to me. I am hopeful PD0 will improve in graphics and have some amazing gameplay, but you never know. I think a lot of people initially were dissapointed with PD0 and that tainted their initial impressions, but overall I am very excited about what the 360 is going to offer. I can't wait to see what some good devs do with 3 cores, 512 mb and 48 unified pipelines - because you know the stuff we are seeing now is all running on old dev kits.

This is not next-gen. This is a nightmare. Uninspired games all around with just a few sparkles here and there (all coming from very small and very short trailers from MTV, give me a break). I'll just stick with my PC to get PC quality games.
 
Eh, PS3 may end up being my choice next generation, based on the fact that this show was crap :lol

Honestly though, waiting for E3
 
My first impression is... Not bad.

I'm not "impressed". Texture of Gears of War + breakeables from Full Auto + ragdoll clothes from NBA = should be in every game. But so far it's not.
I'm also waiting for some killer title that will appeal me. So far i dig NFS, Kameo and Gears of War but damn, i need to see more than 3 titles that grabs me.

The look of the console does not grab me and i also don't like the controller design BUT this should be a minor issue i guess.

Sounds like every other generation to me.
 
I find it ironic that Microsoft have been all about the software for the 360 and seems like come E3 the hardware will be its saving grace.
 
If we're talking about first reaction to all the leaks, it was super positive all those days ago.

Now I have a more realistic view, I think, given the stuff we've seen today. Some disappointments, some good things...I'm holding out until E3 to make a final judgment.
 
Seems fine to me. There's at least a handful of games I'm interested in seeing more of and really wish they'd gotten more airtime thus far than PD0 of all things. But, that's what E3 is hopefully for. Also, like to see what MS has planned for the video camera.
 
Gears of War has sold me,but I was already getting it...you're stupid if you think stuff like Halo 3 won't look drop dead gorgeous.What I mainly see here is a bunch of rushed/ported titles,with some really good ones thrown in,which is what I expected kinda...I'm really dissapointed in PD0 so far though :(

Overall, I have to say I'm disappointed. I really like what I'm hearing about the hardware functions. It's a big plus. I was really hoping PDZero would look fucking kickass though. It was my main reason for looking forward to the Xbox 360 at launch.
 
MTV special sucked....but the videos I have watched on the web are showing promise...some are awesome...some are blah...but thats true with every console....besides, I sure cant tell you much aftr seeing maybe 12 games in action.

And they are saving stuff for e3......right?

Just waiting to see how many turn-based RPGs (like Xenogears, Suikoden, Dragon Warrior, etc.) get released for this one... there were not many (any? Third age?) for the original X-Box, so this, like the first X-Box, will probably be a no-buy for me.

It seemed pretty obvious to me that about half of the games were stuff that was developed for this gen but ported to the 360 to cash in on the small number of titles that will be initially availible, but overall I am happy with what I have seen. PD0 traumatized me, but all of the other quality stuff was good looking imo (even considering the generational gap). Gears of War shows that the system is really powerful and will have some amazing stuff on it, so I won't have any doubts when I get one at launch.
 
I'll be a downer here and say this:

Of the Impressive titles, which are scheduled for launch? Gears of War might look fucking impressive now but its scheduled for launch next year May/June?

By then, we'd be getting PS3 media so I'd say all this XBOX 360 excitement will be a wash. MS is the first to come to the table with these images/videos but it doesn't mean PS3+REV won't have their killer app.

everything else was okay but nothing mind blowing. The JRPG side of things is still too sketchy but E3 IS very close. PDO + Possession are stand out OH MY FUCK. SHIT EYES... roffles.
 
I like the way it looks and all the other neat little features, everything related to hardware has lived up to my expectations. Some of the games have been dissapointing but the great ones make up for it. Nba2k is near photorealistic and 99 Nights sounds awesome. The console obviously has alot of potential.
 
First reaction was just a big WTF. I think Gears looks outstanding, but everything else ranges from crap to meh. Aside from the low dazzling visuals, nothing is really inspiring. I was expecting atleast one innovative game.
 
Gears of War proves the system has true next gen power and PDZ proves you need a quality team to use it. I'm kinda meh about it right now. I might wait a little before I get it.
 
I see some promising stuff but most of the stuff looks from this gen. I have been hearing how a lot of people here in GAF wanted this gen to end and jump to another one...Well, guys now you can pay your 300$ for EXACTLY THE SAME. Enjoy it.
 
Aren't there 3 standards of wi-fi out of the box?

So far, everything looks like an extention of the current Xbox, with nothing that screams out to me "THE NEXT GENERATION". More 99 Nights info and media could change that.

Right now it's all about 99 Nights, Quake 4 and Gears of War. Maybe I expected too much for the Xbox 360. MS needs, IMO, more collaboration with large devs and publishers. If the GC could land Resident Evil exclusives, why can't the Xbox 360? (I know it's more complex than that, but the X360 is really missing major exclusive 3rd party content IMO)

so I was more or less right about GOW's launch date... which means by about april-june next year, we'd be all over PS3/REV titles and the graphics/games on those consoles. It looks sweet but if it ain't hitting at launch, MS won't have that card to play. They've also done serious damage to X360 with this PDZ + visual target EA shenanigans
 
I really do like the look of the system, it's grown on me since the leaked images, the controller also looks awesome.

As for the rest....

Unless they announce something to the scale of Winning Eleven exclusive to 360 at E3, i think I'll be a sony fanboy next gen.
 
I'm in a whole world of disappointment now. The best looking game is something we've already seen before running on PC hardware. This isn't how it's meant to be.
 
The console itself sounds amazing. Very impressive specs, wireless rechargable controllers w/vibration, HD standard, remotely power the console on/off (finally! thank you!), Media Center, detachable hard drive... it really is packed. I'm excited.

But stop me if you've heard this one before. The brief shots we have of games so far are of wildly varying quality.

...As they always are early in the life of any new console. There's a lot of crap in the first wave. Need I remind anyone of the PS2's first six months? What a shit fest that was. I must've played Fantavision 200 times. So, I'm excited, but it'll be real interesting to see how the games take shape between now and November.

he's right you know. How do we even know this is running on XBOX 360? It's already been shown on PC. There's no shock of the new. There's shock of the beauty.

Realise I've only been awake an hour, and this is all hitting me at once :/ I also haven't quite seen everything yet.

I'm sure it'll all sink in and I'll "get used to it" as I'm sure you might be already, but I don't think I'll ever be able to reconcile my expectations with what I'm seeing now. I can't help feeling disappointed, sorry.
