first reactions to the Xbox360 ?

with a couple exceptions (99 nights omgwtf!), the graphics are well short of what i'd expected. either returns are diminishing severely, microsoft have undershot the next generation, or a majority of the early games are grossly inept. i figured i'd buy it at launch for the sheer graphics shock, but now i think i'll wait for a game that really interests me. maybe oblivion will do.

I just watched that ourcolony video and realised that Microsoft must have a sign on their door that reads "No Cool People Allowed". Those people were scary. Really scary. To hell with PD0, that footage made me not want an Xbox 360 more than anything else to date.

I thought it was cool to show the actual people who developed the system. Not everyone is a model.

The vid rocked.

First reaction to the event was man, this SUCKS (first DOA4 then PD0).

Now I've seen Test Drive, Gears of War etc., its :D :D :D all the way.

My reaction is:

PS2 launch was a joke; I played Dreamcast for months after PS2 launched until it got more than a handful of games above "completely pathetic," and yet PS2 turned out to be a great system; now 360 is in a different situation than was the PS2, but I expect more of the same here since MS did a fairly good job w/ the X-Box. I'll get the damn thing, and since I'm not a poor college student anymore like with the previous gen, I'll probably get it at launch and stomach the crap while enjoying the few good games as the PS2 early adopters I felt so sorry for had to do.

I hope PS3 and Rev are a ways off now, after seeing the stuff today, Next Gen technology is not where I had envisioned it would be at this point. I am not buying this "diminishing returns" argument. If the graphical leap is going to be margional, i'll stick with my current systems, still a lot of great games I have to play on those.

This is not next-gen. This is a nightmare. Uninspired games all around with just a few sparkles here and there (all coming from very small and very short trailers from MTV, give me a break). I'll just stick with my PC to get PC quality games.

ROTFLMAO ..PC really does pump out a steady flow of quality pc games :lol :lol :lol

Yeah, and what about that shitty UE3 by that no-name PC developer?! lollers!

my first reaction pd0 was defintitely dissapointed.

but i love the hardware...LOVE IT. and all the videos on mtv.com have restored my faith.

i am upset though because i dont think any of those japanese games will make it for US launch, and i doubt gears of war will be either. not sure what the killer launch app is going to be, i figured it was gonna be pd0...as of right now its not.

I've got mixed reactions. The hardware specs are nice, but graphics quality varies widely among the games shown so far. PD0 screenshots look like crap even by current gen standards. DOA4 looks better than any current gen fighter, but is still underwhelming considering how close DOA:U comes to matching it. Kameo looks pretty good compared to most of the other games, despite being an Xbox port. 99 Nights and Gears of War both look amazing and mop the floor with everything else. Hope X360 has a better showing at E3, and that some of these games shape up over the next few months.

I was so so until the new media started coming in. And then this was posted in the ninety-nine Nights thread.

Too soon my ass.

That and the idea of 3 Japanese RPGs (Lost Oddysey, Blue Dragon, From RPG) and confirmation on Elderscrolls IV...there's no way i can't get one at launch. And thene there's Gears of War and PGR3. :D

the games look pretty, but familiar.

overall it's what i expected/a little disappointing. i hoped ms would provide some real competition this time around but now i think xbox360 will have less market share than xbox.

I will most likely buy an xbox 360, if only for the potential of halo 3, rallisport 3 etc.

The only decision is when. From this preview I'll try and wait until a price drop.

I hope the launch games improve with new dev kits, but I'm not giving MS any benefit of the doubt - it was their choice when to show, so any bad demos are tough.

I expected 360 to be more or less hit and miss and for me thats how its been today. I guess because after the N64 and PS2 I've learned to lower expectations with console launches nowdays. Halo and PGR were the last launch games to make me a believer again but still I'm skeptikal on launches. Xbox 360 looks to be in the middle again, some good, some bad. Its all launch software,so you take the good with the bad. I expect thesame from Sony and Nintendo, just hit and miss. It keeps me sane and not too disapointed, reality checks you could say. No matter the console launch, its still early shit.

You're going to be really disappointed then since I'm sure nintendo will show a prettier Mario and Sony will show a prettier GT4.
probably.

but it's the new stuff i'm interested in.

Wow, the voice of reason.

I agree with this, but I expected it to look better, generally. Like you say, most launches are mired in crap, but at least it usually looks significantly better than what's gone before, which for a lot of these games just isn't the case (with the emerging exceptions, seemingly, like 99 Nights, Lost Odyssey, Gears of War etc., though I'm not sure how many of these are launch games - GoW is 2006 at least, I think).

And it's just wholly disappointing to see certain titles that seemed to have so much potential before today looking like they do (I'm really thinking of PD0 here..I still can't get over that). Hopefully it plays real well.

If I had 2-3 games to enjoy at the console's launch, then mission accomplished. PGR3,a decent Sega game, and Rare's Kameo game would be a good start for me. After that the rest of the games don't have to be don't have to be AAA games,B filler material games are fine. Its the support that comes soon after is what I'm more concerned with. THERE ARE SOME GOOD ONES OUT THERE LIKE THE Test Drive and War Gears(err or what ever its called)that look interesting. More than anything,I'm curious to see how after the launch-what all the 3rd parties do once they all have the best kits for the system.

I'm glad Sony are going to unveil the PS3 at E3. Should make for some for a great back and forth show between Microsoft and Sony. If Nintendo decide to join with the next gen stuff in it will be something else. Finally I want backwards compatabilty. Has it realy been confirmed that all Xbox games will play in 720P? Or was just a bullshit rumor?

PDO looks like a stinky turd that stuck to my shoes.

I think this gen will show more then ever that the talent rises to the top with amazing games...and the also rans will sink even further.

"Rare...your fired!"

MS need to do what Core did with Lara. Take the assets and farm them out to 3rd party devs. 5 years...a next gen console and we get DC level graphics?

Gears Of War was the minimum I expected from next gen so that is looking good. Only problem is its slated for PC too so hardly a proper exclusive. Everything else looks poor to average.

Gears of war is pretty, but I'm not a fan of bumpy aliens for the sake of it. And it looks too much like brute force to get me excited by anything other than the potential it shows.

I'm extremely happy. Not because everything that was shown was mindblowing, but because 1) the hardware is awesome 2) the interface and Live implementation is awesome and 3) the games support will be there from the get go. Everyone has to remember that the MTV special was a 1st introduction to the mass market, not the hardcore. That special just introduced 360 and helped broaden the Xbox name.

E3 is where Microsoft and its 360 developers will have to wow the hardcore and make gamers believe in the 360. However, even if some games fail to impress (PDO) at E3, that doesn't mean they won't impress when they're released (think Halo @ E3 '01). Halo was deemed complete and utter crap @ E3 '01, but came out to be superb. Rare and every other 360 developer still has many months to polish their games. You *know* PDO is going to look hot in the single player mode (when has a Rare game not looked good?).

That's what Nintendo has been saying all along about the next generation. Bring on the Revolution!!!!!

Presentation: Worst crap I've ever seen. Not only the whole party was popped by numerous and accurate leaks, MS should have never allowed to show certain games, specially that POS called Perfect Dark. Heads must roll.

Stance: Wait and see.

1) MTV show sucked ass

2) Rare (and EA) stuff looks like ported Xbox games with more shit on screen.

3) Real Xbox 360 stuff looks good

4) Digging the new XBL stuff (50 players in PD0!!!)

5) When is GameStop taking preorders?

After seeing the good screen shots of DOA4 I honestly was thinking about buying a 360 at launch but after seeing how crappy (for next-gen anyway) most of the other games look I am certainly less than impressed. Even some of the games that look good like Ghost Recon 3 aren't all that technically impressive to me. You can see that the geometry isn't any better than say HalfLife 2. The lighting and filters are what make that game look so good. Take away those and you are left with a game that would look like it could have been released for the PC last year. And don't even get me started on Perfect Dark Zero.

If you ask me, the devs haven't even managed to take full advantage of the Xbox and Gamecube's power this gen and yet somehow they are supposed to take advantage of even more power? It's looking more and more like the next gen is coming too soon. It doesn't look like the devs are ready IMO. Hopefully they will be ready by the time the PS3 comes out because now I'm definitely waiting for that.

I was disappointed yesterday by the PDO screens but today has been very good. Ghost Recon 3, Gears of War, Ninety Nine Nights, and Lost Odyssey look very good.

my only really negative reaction was "i waited so long to see pd0, and this is IT?"

i love the hardware though and most of the games looked good. I also now want to see how MS does at E3 more than ever -- they really need to pull out some "WOW" factor from somewhere (gameswise).

this mornin they were talking about 360 on a local radio show -- a fluff piece basically, but obviously 360 is on a lot of peoples minds this morning, for better or for worse :p

Before today I was 90% getting an X360 at launch.

Now I'm 50/50 on it. So MS has clearly dropped the ball as far as the "hardcore" go (well I'm not hardcore but I do look at videogame forums so I'm not quite mainstream).

I expected a very clear difference between Xbox and X360 games but I'm not seeing that in the majority of the games I've seen shots and video for. They are still side-stepping the issue of backwards compatibility. I'm still not sure whether the 20GB drive is included with the base model (someone said it was in one thread but i haven't seen anything else about it anywhere).

My purchase decision now totally depends on what else MS show at E3 and on what Sony show. MS haven't lost me, but they haven't helped themselves either.

I see huge potential. Xbox360 looks sexy, XBL evolves into an even better service and i expect to see alot more of the content at e3.

Overall im excited, not blown away (the 3 Japanese games and Gears of War made my jaw drop)

I expect PD0 to great near launch so im not worried about it. Looking foward to some impressions, the video looked promising

buy it at launch i will

I liked the look of the console.

I was disappointed with a lot of the games.

Fucking Activision and EA expect us to pay $60-$70 for the crap they were showing. That Tony Hawk game was unbelivably bad and looked like it was running on Dreamcast hardware.

I'm going to reserve final judgement on a launch-day purchase until E3 is over with. We will have real gamers at E3 who get some hands on time with the machine and the games and we should get a lot of good first-hand impressions.

I tivo'ed the mtv show....

I was tierd and watched most of it on x4 or x15, stopping here and there to normal playback only to see bling-bling, hip hop this and that, and random idiots...
...god I hate videogames becoming so-called main stream.....
/sigh..

As far as the xbox360 and games...
Honestly I kept ffwd'ing through the program saying... "wtf where are the games, they are showing xbox games..". Honestly, not trolling. I did recognize that red headed chick from the screens here on the forum... but that's about it.

All in all a big "meh", and then I puked from the mtv-ish induced head spins.

Are you financially compensated and/or affiliated with Microsoft in any way?

I am a bit angry of the most peoples here on this forum. Most all of you are already bitching the Xbox 360.

Yours words:
"Look how awful are PD0 and DO4".
& "PS3 and Revolution will crush Xbox 360"

Yeah right. Most of the launch game of PS3 and Rev will also suck.

These games are the porting from XBOX, so what do you expect!!
The games, which really show the power of XBOX360 at the earlier stage:
ninety-nine Nights and Gear of ware etc..
I will be one of the owner of XBOX360 this Nov/Dec.

So feel free to flame @ me.
