First Ryse Review

Pretty sad reading people in this thread hoping a game will review badly. What reason is there to hope a game will review or sell or do poorly?

Maybe read again? Who is actively hoping it will review bad. It's the general consensus that from what we've seen so far it's going to pretty but overly repetitive so probably will review badly
 
regardless of how they review, i wish ps4 had 3 games like dead rising, ryse, and forza to dive into at launch.

i mean, you have people swearing Knack is a fantastic game. the situation is desperate.

Animation is wonky. If someone attacks player from behind and he blocks it, main character magically and instantly turns around in the blocking position.

They stated once that they made the blocking animation completely animation independent so that it is responsive to your controls.

It can change to the blocking animation within 1-2 frames.

This is a case of control priority over animation priority.

It would be better if more games put what's happening in the game ahead of animation. We're not playing a movie, even if the graphics and discussion about cinematic visuals make us think we should be. There should be a balance, of course, but it's more important that your guy blocks when you want him to block than it is to animate naturally (slowly, less twitchy) and get hit because it just doesn't look realistic or lifelike.
 
Watching the IGN stream, this game looks fun as hell. I think this is by far the coolest looking XB1 game. These executions are fucking brutal and I think the GP reminds me a lot of the Batman games actually. I wish this was coming to PS4 haha.
 
Ryse looks amazing but not sure about the gameplay, it's Crytek after all, they can make beautiful games but their gameplay is most of the time shit.

I hope it's good for day one Xbox buyers. I would definitely take a look at it if i had an Xbox One. It does look interesting and different.
 
Just looks like QTE after QTE too bad, will probly end up being a mediocre game. Graphics look nice, and voice acting seems pretty good though.

Prediction 72 metacritic.
 
watching a stream on twitch I can see why they referenced Heavenly Sword. instead of metallic dinner plates you throw gigantic toothpicks. but this time there's not sixaxis involved (although, gotta say, once you mastered that gimmick it wasn't that bad).

It's really not, people just over rate the importance of platform exclusives for launch. There are a ton of people enjoying next Gen versions of games that they can play at more than 640p now. I have every console and a gaming PC, but I prefer to sit on my couch and play NFS and BF4 on my 60 inch plasma. I like Sony spreading the games out and supporting the PS3,whch I'm not selling for a while(360 in process of being sold).
 
They just said that Ryse is a game they want to get all achievements in, it doesn't sound like a game thats crap really if they want to do that.
 
One thing im starting to notice though is a A LOT of the same enemy character models. I've seen this fat bearded barbarian dude killed like 30 times now. kinda lame.
 
Could someone explain to me why most of what I see on here is "QTE QTE QTE" when nobody complains that in god of war there are controller queses above people. What it seems like to me is visual queues to try to get the timing down as perfect as possible for a combo.
 
For those being typically GAF, 3 News is, unsurprisingly, the news outlet of channel 3. Channel 3 is owned by MediaWorks, who pretty much own like 50% of media outlets in New Zealand. Also note that New Zealand doesn't have many free-to-air channels. I think we're at 7 or 8. So while you might scoff, it's treated with a fair bit of respect here. Microsoft would be giving them the full treatment.

They used to have a great bit about games on Nightline before they canned it.
 
I'm guessing this game would be really fun for a couple hours, but expect it to overstay it's welcome. I don't know that the gameplay has the depth to keep someone engaged for a full campaign. Seems like it would have made a good downloadable title.
 
What the hell, did they just say you can't invert the Y axis?, i hope they are on about something else because i always use inverted.
 
I'm a little blown away so many PS4 fan are on that feed just to troll. Well, i'm not surprised, but the phenomenon never makes sense to me.
 
One thing I can say is that they definitely nailed the camera.
When you're surrounded it goes back, to give you a better view. Transitions between executions and gameplay are very smooth.
I wish Metal gear rising had a camera this good.

They are saying it is not a universal setting like on the 360 (i.e set from dashboard)

...or at least they can't find the setting

He specifically says he changes it in each game

I'm sure there are some more I could pull but I think you get the point. I mean I guess it depends on your definition of "will sell" but I assume that metric would be "commercially successful". In the end, rating =/= units sold.

No, my initial post was illustrating the industry values reviews. It wasn't a conspiracy theory about the industry paying for high scores, just pointing out that the industry values scores enough to TRY paying for them.

Maybe you should work on your reading comprehension, as you clearly missed the entire purpose of my post. Here's a recap: Your argument was that review scores don't matter. My rebuttal was that the powers that be in a multi-billion dollar industry disagree so strongly that they tie large portions of their business model to those review scores. You then claim I'm putting up tinfoil hat conspiracies by going on a tangent based on only one example of the multiple examples I gave as to how the industry values review scores.

So who really missed the point here?
