Unfortunately the movie doesn't have Christian Bale or Robert Downey Jr. playing Racer X, if it did, GAF would simultaneously wack off to the movies excellence.

Fortunately, neither take shit roles.

That sucka gonna need a pride-graft, cause he got 3rd degree BURNED!

Fucking awesome movie. I don't get the complaints about the story as anyone going in should know it was going to be fairly weak. I went for the visuals/homages and was not disappointed.

So how is Matthew Fox in this movie? Is he just playing Jack like in every other role?

Yes. Conflicted look in his eyes while in a suit and holding a drink at a party, then away from the camera and goes "If I regret it, then it's just something I have to live with." while trying to avoid eye contact with anyone. He's typecast for life, nothing can save him.

:lol

Anyway, I think i'll go see this tonight.

Fucking awesome! I was hoping the empty theatre i saw it in meant something and it did! :D

Triumph - As a film it's absolute garbage. If you took out all the dialogue, every time you see a character outside of a racecar, and killed the monkey, there might be a half hour of a well scored(if generic) action movie.

Wow, what a sad and bitter person you seem to be.

It's a movie for a certain section of the populace, and it's a perfect fan service as well, hoping movies tank is just childish.

What do you expect? He's an Arsenal fan.

Fucking awesome movie. A disgrace to society that it is going to do so poorly while garbage like "What Happens in Vegas" will probably get massive profit.

The movie should've been more realistic IMO and less kiddy..

Sad? :lol

Bitter? not really. Pissed that I wasted money on this piece of shit film and then people are going to be fooled by a bunch of guys going "omg so gud"

Watching shitty childrens movies is childish.

Nice betrayal there Lak :lol

Well, if you feel you wasted money because of GAF recommendations, then I would have to say you deserved it for not researching it yourself and making up your mind.

Being entertained by the fact that the movie is bombing like most people expected and actually making some deluded people that clinged on to false hope disappointed and sad is another matter though. :)

Nah seriously, QVT is a good guy, but I just had to get a dig in coz he's an Arsenal fan. Who doesn't love winding them up?

To each their own I suppose, but hoping it tanks...just kinda shitty IMHO. There has never been a movie with this style, and from the looks of it, there will never be one again. I guess creative vision gets destroyed by the comic book movie of the year and some shitty date movie...

Ektor, you seem to be confused. This movie is absolute crap. The dialogue is terrible, the acting is terrible(goodman aside), the plot is stupid, his brother is an absolute dick, and there is that fucking kid and monkey.

I didn't go because of GAF recommendation I went because of the colours. I've learned now.

So you guys wouldn't be happy if a movie you didn't like didn't do well? Why not?

This was supposed to be a movie, not a tech demo.

I'll just take this as your personal opinion on the matter and move on. Thanks for addressing my previous comment with respect.

It's called Speed Racer, which was a show that had a little kid and monkey, god fucking awful dialog and a goofball story. It's exactly what it's supposed to be.

QVT's just upset because he's realized his inner child is dead and rotting.

You would think they learned a thing or two from Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within right?

What's funny is how bad that movie looks today. Have you watched it lately?

So why then are people acting surprised and even digusted that the movie is NOT doing well?

Oh, come on, we can go broader than that. Like, say, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, or the latest shitty horror remake, or anything by Uwe Boll.

I dunno, I was hoping it would do better, but I am also aware of the limited audience that will "get" the movie. For the record the movie did a damn fine job of paying homage to the original but with better dialog, it's not Oscar worthy acting on any part, but it was perfectly fine for what it was.

:lol :lol :lol oh my god it's not even going to make 15 million this weekend
No, family movies usually get a boost on Saturdays. It should be able to clear 15 million... but at best, it'll barely pass 20.

That depends on how deadly the poor word of mouth is. It should still be able to clear 15 million though, if not, that would be really, really sad.

Someone at the boxoffice mojo boards compared it to TMNT which last year made $1 mill more on friday than this and it barely passed 17 million opening weekend.

Jesuschrist people ease on the hate. Wishing for its failure? WTF?

FoneBone said:
Official Friday estimates are in, and it did even worse than expected. #3, behind What Happens in Vegas.

Between the love-it-or-hate-it, hyper-stylized, aggressively artificial visuals, and the fact that it's a family film based on a cartoon no kid has ever seen... well, the damage was done. Don't blame the critics.

*literally raises an eyebrow*

Damn.

Damn.

DAAAAAAAMN.

Now "shitty" is defined by people's expectations being crushed/not met or having different tastes. Awesome.
That's always been the case on GAF. Most people aren't film critics.

It's a family film. it will have long legs and stay a while. It's way to early to call it a bomb.

Great movie. Very entertaining. The marketing department are to blame if this movie bombs. It's one of the best family movies I've seen in a long time. The cast are great, Trixie was hot, the kid and chimp were actually funny and not annoying and the races were very fun to watch. If you have kids I recommend you take them to see this.

This movie will not have anything, it won't even match its marketing budget in the states. Those Friday numbers have sealed its fate. It'd have to be an unbelievable box-office freak the likes of which have never been seen for a heavily marketed "summer blockbuster" to overcome its current bomb label.

Dude, it's friday estimates. I'm sorry but you have to out of your mind if you think this movie will do that badly based on one day.

This is TMNT all over again.

Doubtful.

As a kid, what would you rather see? A flashy race movie about a character you've never heard about or a movie about a bad-assed mechanical superhero that you have at least heard about through your friends? You can bet your ass that parents are going to choose Iron Man over Speed Racer as well due to the fact that there is a chance that they might actually enjoy it.
