First Street Fighter 5 Gameplay - Ryu vs Chun-Li

How do you lot feel about (the rumored) no focus?

I thought they were a fun addition but I never got too competitive and don't know how it affected matches/fun.

I know something tiny about FADC but that's about it.
FADCs are alright but most casual players didn't use it much it was mostly a tool for top players. FADCs used to be pretty annoying when you could do SRK FADC into pressure but now you can't do that.

I'm excited for this.

I'm gonna get USFIV on PC and will get this on PS4 more than likely :o.

(Will eventually double dip on PC ver lol)

Me and my brother played AE, and I had so much fun playing him though we need to practice more. At first I don't want to get Ultra, but I plan on getting it when it's on sale for steam.

I'm pretty sure that's not final so there's no need to worry. SF4 vanilla went thru the samething, if you look for early build images it drastically changed. It's early so they're toying around as we speak with the look, currently it's pretty plain but that's going to change as development moves forward.

I do hope they at least keep some of the fonts and sound effects because it looks pretty sharp as is. They can change it a little bit but I'm digging the overall aesthetic (such as the health bars starting as a nice green color and then slowing fading to red as you take damage).

I also would like to see a more classy menu system this time around. I seriously began to loathe the menu screen in SFIV, it's so loud and gaudy. Sleeker fonts are always nicer to the eyes than edgy ones too.

I think this looks great. I haven't read the whole thread but here is my speculation:
That inky effect looks like it will be a different colour for each character - Chun Li = blue, Ryu at this stage looks black, but I would have thought white would have made more sense.
The different size Ex gauges makes to seem that you'll choose from different styles at the beginning of a match.
Hopes and dreams:
I hope Dhalsim is in it.
I dream that there will be a smallish (12?) size cast, each with their own distinct fighting style. I guess you need Ken and Ryu, but two Shotos is enough for me - although a twist like making Ken completely different from Ryu could be cool!

Edit: more dreams: Less emphasis on link combos, faster gameplay - second fastest on Super Turbo is my favourite.

I'd be bummed if they were in the game. Focus Attacks were SF4's gimmick, like parries were to SF3. SF5 should bring something new to the table instead of just rehashing the last gen's thing.

I don't quite get why people think SFV looks slower than SFIV. If those tube-vids are anything to go by, it looks a lot faster/quirkier to me.

My wishes for SFV:

* No comeback mechanic (sadly, the revenge meter already looks like the shitty ultra meter of SFIV).

* More distinct art style. As it is now, it already looks good. I just wish this game will be more its own thing, rather than copying SFIV.

* Would love to have a smaller roster of characters, around 12 would be perfect. And then give each of them their own stage.

Anyway, looking forward to this a lot.

I wouldn't mind if it was left out, because a large chunk of the cast couldn't utilize that mechanic to the fullest with how charge characters and oddballs like Dhalsim for example can't practically apply combo cancels offensively. Which moves had the "shatter Focus Attacks" attribute attached to them was also a little inconsistent and not immediatedly clear on a visual level either (before connecting I mean), so on a whole I always found it to be an inelegant mechanic. I'd rather have a feature akin to the parry, as in something different that's straight-forward and useful for everyone.

It begins.

Watched the vid in 60fps and that Hit stun on Ryu's punches is insane even when blocked. Just holy hell.

Well it would have to be in order for him to link/block string at the speed he is moving.

How come it isn't possible nowadays?

Not sure if its been discussed but I found this pretty cool lore hint to the element mechanic of SF5 and possible connections to the Illuminati(Gill, Urien, etc).

SF wiki said:
The Sixty-Six Secret Arts are a collection of powerful and extraordinary techniques available only to those of the Illuminati who have gone under the society's intensive hand-to-hand combat training program, where the ability to wield ki and elemental power is developed through such tutelage, and by genetic alterations to enhance the properties of the participants.

Training to master these techniques is said to come from mastery over specific elements by merging them into one's aura. Mastering them all is said to be impossible, as they make the use of all known elemental affinities, while the known maximum elemental capacity in a human is three.

Two of these techniques revealed throughout the series are the Aegis Reflector learned by Urien, and Resurrection, learned by Gill.
Maybe each character will have three to choose from? It could also be possible that your super/meter is also tied to an element.

That element concept sounds interesting...

Man, I never really played Urien, but I'd love to see him come back in SF5.

He's just so savage, and I used to love watching those Aegis Reflector setups/juggles.

Speaking of Aegis, I wonder if Capcom is a bad enough dude to put unblockable setups in SF5.

Same.

If SF5 will have tight links, hopefully Capcom restricts them to fancy-stylin combos and not BnB hit-confirms.

Yea, that's exactly what I want links to be in the next game for flashy gameplay.

In the original SFV trailer, (that was leaked and then shown at PSX) there was a shot of someone drawing concept art for what looked like, and probably is, Ken. This shot to be exact:

Also there's a model of what Ryu looks like in the game, next it. So, it definitely could be Ken Concept Art.
