First Street Fighter 5 Gameplay - Ryu vs Chun-Li

Plenty of time to work out the mechanics, and even in early stages this game looks amazing. The animation is fantastic.

Crazy kicks for ken or riots! Canon wise his long hair was during his younger days so I doubt that's returning back (SF alpha, when he gave his ponytail to Ryu) Im pretty sure he's coming back so don't worry.

The FGC is quite big globally so this is huge for Sony, for me this is legit system seller.
yeah, I hope they just make him cool and flashy again and not a joke version of Ryu.

In SF4, Ryu gets urban street clothes & head scarf, a wolf costume, and a torn Karate Gi

In SF4, Ken gets a cowboy suit, tight workout shorts, and a robe with a fur collar

-_-

Come on man...I want that flashy Ken back baby...

And whoever said I'm down for ditching Ken, BLASPHEMY!

If you read cannon, it can be argued that Ken is actually the more naturally talented fighter, but is simply not dedicated to the craft like Ryu. He is the just as iconic at this point to the series I think. Always ranked super high on any popularity list and player usage data. Flowcharts were all rocking the red flame blonde.

This will be the 1st sf game i buy since alpha?!

Looks really good, i cant wait to jump back into the series.

Im curious about the engine and release date. No chance of a 15 release guys?

And whoever said I'm down for ditching Ken, BLASPHEMY!

Ken is my fav. I just hope they dont make him look like He Man this time around holy shit.

He is supposed to be a pretty boy/ladies man with flashy kicks and "BURNING VIGOR"!

I want his focus to be his burning punches though. Not saying to get rid of his feints and overhead kicks...

I AM expecting Ken to get a speed up, since they slowed Ryu down. remember, they said every character is going to feel unique? Yup. They really are trying this time.

Funn Fact: I showed my brother these gifs and the only thing he said was that chun li "sure has a lot of extra polygons MMMM MMM~~ dem legs"

In the original SFV trailer, (that was leaked and then shown at PSX) there was a shot of someone drawing concept art for what looked like, and probably is, Ken. This shot to be exact:

That might probably be fan art, since that trailer focused a lot on the community aspect.

Game looks a little slow definitely, but they'll most definitely fix that with player feedback.

Loving everything else about what I saw though. The hits have more impact, the sound effects sound cool and fitting. And noodle bowl ftw.

The noodle bowl staying on the whole time is a bit crazy though. Maybe drop it after a hit or two...
It would be cool if you had to do a taunt to get it off. Like do you want the shame of having the noodle bowl on your head the whole match or do you want to take it off by risking to press the taunt button (which at this point would be used to take it off as opposed to taunting)

I hope we still get Guile in the game, because I want to see him in this engine. I'm tired of seeing the awful Guile model in SFIV.

I like the sound of that.

It might even become a "Let your opponent collect themselves" kind of thing in a tournament. Like a complimentary allowance of a taunt at the start of the round in a "Yeah, I humiliated you" fashion.

Eh, who am I kidding? The noddle bowl will be banned for tourney play.

I like that a lot.

Wouldn't make much sense to taunt while you have a noodle bowl on your head anyway :P

Also I think if you take a strong hit it should come off. Would make the attack look cooler...and obviously gets rid of the bowl.

Such a small thing to add in the grand scheme but a very cool addition.

Wow that looks fantastic, like the music too
animation is really good aswell, got a good feeling about this one.

Ryu did seem slow. Chun li seemed similar to usfiv in speed, to me at least.

I like what i have seen so far considering it is still early in development.

I hope akuma is in and he looks and sounds closer to his 3s version, i also hope he has more than one ultra/super availiable at once like he had in that game. Also bring back his theme music and his stage. i guess i really like akuma in that game.

Hoping they bother to include a tutorial that explains the basics this go around. People shouldn't have to go outside of the game to learn basic concepts. I mean how do you put 1-frame links in your combo trials, yet don't bother to explain what the hell it is to the player. All a new player is going to see in the trial is: hit C.Str x2 , C.RH, and wonder why the hell is it not working. Just have the game explain itself, and leave the super advanced stuff to the online wikis.

I had some pretty serious rumors about SFV and didn't see this thread. Sorry guys.

I'm gonna quote it here.

Okay I have a couple of rumors for you GAF. They are probably true.

Ken Bogard is well-known in the french VS fighting community. He's a fighting games commentator and also has a weekly show about VS Fighting on french Web TV "Gaming Live". He apparently has a source at Capcom. All the infos he had in the past turned out to be true and he's not the kind of guy who spread out ridiculous rumors.

So take the following has you want GAF, but I'm 100% trusting that dude.

He has also a weekly "shiny hunting" Pokemon show on that web tv. So on his December 5th Show, while playing, he talked a lot about Street Fighter V. He said he knew stuff and that he'll dropp discretely hint during the show. Here's what he said.

- Street Fighter V won't have "Super" or "Hyper" editions. Just updates. He won't know if these updates will be free or DLC and does not know if they'll be balancing updates or will add characters and stages.
- The starting roster will be between SFIII and SF IV. He knows the number but not the returning cast.
- There'll be 4 new characters and he knows 3 of them.
- Focus Attacks won't return.
- It'll be released in 2016 and that the month is easy to guess. (He said to think about japanese fiscal years).

Then he dropped some interesting clues. He usually nicknames his Pokemon with stupid joke names but not this time.

3 of his pokemons were nicknamed

- Rachid
- Zen
- Laura

We can assume these are the 3 new fighters he knows about. He also kept mentioning 3 places in the world and he said "there was a reason": Brasil, Africa and India. We can assume Rachid is from Africa and (more probably North Africa), Zen will be from India and Laura from Brasil.

He also named another Pokemon "V-Trigger" which is probably the name of the new SFV mechanic.

So, you know everything. I repeat, I think we can 100% trust Ken Bogard but don't forget either: we're still early in development, things can change.

tl;dr: RUMOR (which I believe is true) French VS fighting commentator seems to have info about SFV. Launch date 2016. No new versions, just updates. 4 new characters: Rachid (Africa), Zen (India), Laura (Brasil) and one more. New mechanic called V-trigger.

I think GGXrd is probably the new standard for fighting game tutorials. It not only shows you how to do moves but also explains why and when you should use them.

I feel like fighting games shouldn't even leave the super advanced stuff for others to explain. If it's in the gameplay system then explain it in a tutorial on the game and allow the player to follow through the mechanics while doing so. This is one of the main reasons I feel people who have a light interest in playing these games walk away from them. My friends who casually played SFIV never understood what the hell link combos were and quickly grew frustrated with the trials because they though the game was just bad at picking up inputs.

Well Charlie's announcement kinda proves him wrong on this part.

I just realized something: Dimps is working on two games at once?

-Xenoverse using (modified SF4 engine)
-SFV (using god knows what).

wow.

I understand now, don't worry about it. Interesting info if true. I'm still skeptical, naturally.

As I said in the other thread: He really wasn't clear about it.To be fair, he didn't had the right to be clear about anything.

What I'm sure he said about the number of characters: "easy to guess", "think about the original cast", "it's the fifth game". So maybe 12+5 = 17 ? Maybe 15 ? I don't know.

For "between SFIII and IV" maybe he was talking about the gameplay. He was answering people in the chat, so I can't be sure.

They've been shadow developing for other companies for years, they should be a moderately big studio by now.

Preach!

Capcom/Dimps never used MT Framework for SFIV (With the exception of the 3DS version). Even so, that was a different developer who made that port. SFV could probably be using a different engine. Either way, the game looks fantastic. Shoutouts to Capcom for not having body clipping in this game now.
The engine of the original SFIV (arcade, console and PC) started as a branch of MT Framework, which was highly modified to run fighting games on it because back then the engine didn't support them. But MT Framework was its core.

Later, for MvsC3 they added part of the SFIV engine and additional custom stuff to the main, oficial MT Framework. And after that, SFxT merged the remaining SFIV stuff into the main MT Framework version.

SFIV different future iterations had minor changes in terms of technical features, so it didn't make sense to port these games to the main branch of MT Framework so they keep using the original SFIV branch.

The bowl landing on her head adds a hit to the combo meter, lolol

Hahaha! Well spotted!

Looking good considering it's still such a ways off. Like others have said, I guess it's slowed down significantly so they can show off what's happening at this stage. I wonder if there'll be a parry/focus equivalent, or if it'll be "pure" SF with some massive tweaks (for example, characters EX/revenge meters being different).

I like the idea of blowing the whole EX meter for a buff or powered up move or whatever.

I love how they're trying to incorporate the ink swishes better in this one. They already look great as an EX/super flourish.

Also REALLY like the music. I hope it's a good representation of the overall soundtrack and style. SF4's music was easily some of weakest in the series.

Very cool that they're showing so much off at this stage. I imagine a lot of people are hyped for Charlie's return, too. Can't wait to see more!

May be getting old but, I hope they tweak the shaders and character lighting so the fighters stick out a bit more from the background. Ryu and Chun-Li look a bit flat in my opinion. Animation and effects are looking great.

How do you lot feel about (the rumored) no focus?

I thought they were a fun addition but I never got too competitive and don't know how it affected matches/fun.

I know something tiny about FADC but that's about it.

Seeing how at one point a SFIV leak that came super-early turned out to be 100% legit, I'm guessing this might be pretty legit too especially if it's the same source.

If it really does have 4 new characters, I hope the 4th is a character from say Belarus or the North Pole (Eskimo-type). Just thinking of countries that haven't had representation in SF yet. I'm sort of sad that Focus attacks aren't coming back but if some of their properties can be channeled into new game mechanics that work even better then I won't miss them too much.

I really hope this takes place after III; they can still bring back some of the IV cast while doing so, they'd just have to find a way to say why they didn't think of Gill of enough a threat to participate in the III tournament xD.

I'm a bit miffed if that happens b/c they never reached the full potential of the mechanic imho, but these guys know what's best for the game they're designing.

Still tho, they opened up for gameplay possibilities that weren't present in past SFs, mainly relating to combos, but there are other ways they can bring that back w/o Focus and we saw some of that in the footage yesterday.

I had some pretty serious rumors about SFV and didn't see this thread. Sorry guys.

I'm gonna quote it here.

Juicy, juicy.

Honestly expect Rachid (Rashid?) to be the Indian guy heh.

I'm happy Focus is gone. It's a nice unique element to SFIV, but it's not something I was overly fond of, ultimately. Who knows, by the time I get used to SFV I may even beg for it back. But it's always good to see what new mechanics they bring to stage, and then to mess around and see if they're any fun or not.

Here's a rumour we need - World Tour Mode. Bring that back.

The origin countries is what I'm not 100% sure of. The show was 2H long. I re-watched it on replay. I only found the moment when he was talking about Africa, India and Brasil. I think I remember him talking about China and Russia too but couldn't seem to find it in the replay videos.

Maybe he knew that Elena, Dhalsim, Sean, Zanghief and Yun/Yang are back. I don't know.

If someone speaks French and want to watch 2 hours of shiny Pokemons hunting, the videos are on Ken Bogard's Youtube page.

I am very glad it's gone. This is a new game and I don't want SF4's gimmick mechanic again. I want this game to be its own thing.
