I really loved this game. I'd say the one downside is combat against bosses is a little lacking, the mechanics just aren't good enough. Block is completely useless because you can't break out of combos to use it, and the vulnerability phase in between combos can be rather frustrating. Grab is also basically useless because it takes so long to use and if it misses, god help you.
Having said that, I put over 50 hours in and really enjoyed myself, there's loads to do and the trophies aren't grind-tacular at all which was surprising (well, one is a little bit but it's actually really fun sort of grinding so I didn't mind).
Also the 2 player co-op is a riot, my wife and I spent hours on it. Anyway, highly recommended, if you're even vaguely a fan of the genre then you owe it to yourself to play it.

I had quite a bit of fun with this game earlier this year.
I admit I didn't read all of that but Mamiya being the strongest person in the game? :lol Even if you want to go down the ranged-weapon route, Jaggi is better in basically every way (I can safely say this because I got the platinum and maxed out almost every character). Mamiya's specials are totally shit as well.
For what it's worth, I'd say Raou is the strongest, he can go toe-to-toe even with the giants and his combos are insane, which is why he unlocks last I guess. If you level up Toki enough he finally starts getting good but still kinda weak against bosses imo, combo pauses are ridiculous.
