Can someone suggest a good diet for those of us who are super skinny trying to bulk up?

I'd skip on the GOMAD. Not healthy at all, even on a short-term gain.

There are other ways to bulk up. I'd make sure brown rice (or sweet potato) and chicken are apart of my daily diet.

I disagree with Jason since sweet potatoes and chicken are not exactly bulking foods, however the issue with GOMAD(besides shitting your pants) is that people don't know when to cut it off.

Super skinny and trying to bulk? If you're not worried about fat gain, eat anything - try and be a little bit healthy about it.

If you're worried about fat gain, increase your carb intake (low GI throughout the day, and high gi before and after your workout), and increase your healthy fat intake. Your protein intake should already be high.

My favourite source of low gi carbs are: rolled oats (blended into my morning protein shake) and brown rice. omnomnom. Favourite sources of high gi (purely for pre/post workout) are white rice, glucose (mixed into some juice) or white potatoes.

Essentially, eat more meat and carb foods and you'll grow. If you're still not growing, eat some more.

Your diet and what you eat will be the biggest deciding factor in your growth and performance at gym, imo.

I would also recommend starting off slow. A quart a day, then a half gallon, until you can do a gallon. Even if you can digest dairy fine, you still need to adapt to it.

A cup of sweet potato has 41g of carbs, 4g of protein, and 180 calories. The latter two are not much, but it's the carbs that counts. Not to mention the amount of health benefits SP has.

I was just suggesting SP as one of the foods for bulking.

He can eat oatmeal, too, adding nuts, bananas, flax seed, and honey. My oatmeal for breakfast clocks in close to 800 calories.

But whatever, GOMAD is fucking dumb when there are other healthy ways to gain weight.

Welp, on the subject of body weight, I should be around the upper 240s by the end of the year. I start dieting September 11th of this year at a rather bloated 285.

K. 4g of protein for 200 kcal is a good bulking food? Great way to waste your calories for the day IMO.

I personally wouldn't do GOMAD, as I like to keep track of my Kcal per day. For bulking, I would suggest eating some protein rich foods (milk is a good cheap choice though) that totals up to 500kcal above your current daily metabolic needs.

Guys would it be okay if I put something in my protein shake like Nesquik chocolate syrup to make the taste more bearable? It's like double jeopardy when I finish a really tough workout (legs) and I'm on the verge of throwing up and I have to drink that stuff.

What kind of protein are you taking that makes you want to throw up? If you're trying to bulk up, a little chocolate syrup isn't going to be a big deal.

Whey protein, double chocolate something. On other days I'm fine, but legs days are tough, I feel really nauseous at the end of a workout. I'm looking to bulk up and lose a bit of fat around my stomach area.

Edit: I use this.

I could have swore that people here said that tastes good.

EAS chocolate whey tastes great.

Also, if you're feeling sick at the end of a workout something may be wrong and you can't spot reduce fat.

I use that and I think it tastes fine with just milk. Have you tried putting it in a blender and mixing with other things besides the chocolate syrup? While I don't do it for the whey protein, for my casein protein shake, I put in a banana and some vanilla greek yogurt which helps out with the taste a lot. (this is on top of the milk of course)

But if you're feeling a little nauseous at the end of a workout, which can easily happen if you've had a tough workout, just drink some water or milk and wait until you feel better to have your protein shake.

It tastes kind of bitter to me. Like I said other days are fine but on most leg days I feel on brink of throwing up near the end. I'll try a bit of the chocolate syrup and see how that works out.

Also, I worded my sentence badly. I'm trying to lose fat (cardio) and gain muscle (workout), but my stomach area is the only real concern. It's not big (I have visible abs etc) but I have slight love handles that really annoy me when I look in the mirror.

I used to use Casein as well, and that one tasted pretty good to me, but my friend recommended the whey protein because he said it has a faster release of protein as opposed to the casein making it more efficient post-workout. I ended up buying 3 ten pound bags, so that will last me a while.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try the water method and see how it goes. It's just that I feel a need to take that protein shake right after my workout, so this issue was worrying me a bit.

Trying to go for the Legendary Recomp, eh? Well, that only happens in people who haven't been training for very long. Most people don't get bigger and leaner at the same time unless they're on drugs.

Also, if you're worried about body fat, don't put syrup in your shakes, man.

Similar genetics to me, I need to get down to a very low body fat % before they even stop bothering me. It's the first place the fat goes and the last place the fat leaves. Still, I'd prefer it there to having it in my chest like some unlucky guys.

I love the taste of my serious mass protein shake. I look forward to drinking it to be honest

Could you guys pass me the link to some cheap yet effective creatine. I'm looking for the one that does not cause water retention as well. Thank you.

All of them cause some water retention. ON creatine on amazon is dirt cheap, especially when you subscribe.

GOMAD is a joke.

However, upping your milk intake can help a lot. No way would I recommend drinking a full gallon though. 3 or so cups a day is more than enough. I'd feel sick with any more than that.

Any way to remove post workout burn if you have had it for 2 days after a hard workout?

I heard Epsom salts are good but I don't currently have those in my house right now.

My strength coach had me establish 1RMs today in squats, deadlifts, and press.

I was capable of a lot more than I realized. Feels good man.

This post is lacking.

Numbaz.
Weighed in at 187 this morning.

Squat: 205
Deadlift: 275
Press: 115

I am just getting started within about 5 months of work (4 with my strength coach) from scratch and weighing in at 160 back in May. I got a ways to go but now I at least have some tangible goals in mind. I am right about (+/- 5-10lbs) where the Weightlifting Performance Standards for the Novice category and my weight would put me at.

A feasible goal would be to hit Intermediate numbers in under a year.

Split body, but I don't know why my triceps and biceps are so sore 2 days after I did my arms day.

How long have you been working out?

Something that I did when I started that helped was the next day I would lightly stimulate my muscles with light weight (ex. if I did chest the last day, I'd do some pushups the next day to get my blood pumping to the muscle), which I felt helped recovery and recovery times.

Definitely doable. Nice bud!

I'm gonna try GOMAD in a week or two, after I have a job. Once I gain the weight, I won't lose it, right? Not as long as I keep working out?

I mean, I got up to 175 a year or two ago and haven't eaten the same since, but only lost like 3 pounds - even with a couple extended periods of no weight lifting.

With that said, back in the gym tomorrow. Finally gonna join it hahaha. But I have only been like twice in the past 2.5 weeks. Feel horrible. Pullups, pushups, and burpees are whats keeping me alive.

edit: What are some good ways to increase my explosiveness on the basketball court? I'm looking for lifts here, I know drills and whatnot to do on the court. My goal is Advanced numbers while playing on the Community College team here.

Deadlifts, Olympic lifts (clean, snatch, etc). Anything that works hip extension.

I suggest finding a diet that you can actually maintain. Plenty of people who go on Gomad just gain a bunch of fat. Look into some plyometrics workouts for your basketball needs

There's not really any place for Olympic lifts, so I'll have to see if they're allowed. Knowing what I know of the manager, she might not even know what those are though...

I'd be considered a hardgainer - can't really gain weight no matter what I'm eating and doing at the time. Wouldn't any diet for me be high in fat/calories?

Yes but when you reach a good spot you can just reduce intake on a normal diet. On Gomad you're just going to have to find a new diet soon anyways.
