Eating well isn't some unobtainable Holy Grail, folks.

Jack LaLanne used to say "If man makes it, don't eat it." It tends to be true even if it is a gross oversimplification. My own pragmatism makes it more like, "Eat things made by man less often than not." Damn green tea ice cream.

I've heard it put as "don't eat anything that didn't have parents or grow from the ground", of course, my dinner today was some whole wheat pasta and shrimp...

I dropped 3 lbs in 2 weeks. That's a little too fast for me and I am probably dropping some muscle so I am upping my daily protein intake from 200 to 250 grams and increasing calories by 300.

Had to take the day off. Took son to the hospital at 6 am this morning to have his tubes replaced (in his ears).

I'll just have to "reset" and repeat this week, next week.

He's going to be okay, right?

Family issues are about the only thing that would separate me from my training these days.

Would it be possible to continue where you left off tomorrow, or is it just easier (or more worthwhile perhaps) to repeat this week of your training?

I have failed to noticeably correct my internally-rotated shoulders even with only doing push-up variations as my chest/triceps exercises but several rowing variations with at least 2x the volume for pulling:pressing.

I want to correct this postural issue ASAP because it seems what I am doing is not enough to counter my daily posture from so much sitting.

I am going to stop all push-ups as well as pull-ups and only do horizontal pulling, core, and leg exercises. That's it. Cutting the other stuff will give me more time to add sets on the rowing exercises.

I also need to roll my pecs on a lax ball each day, maintain my above-average upper back (thoracic) mobility and also make sure I am not slouching the other 23 hours of non-workout times of the day.

With my shoulder history I can't afford to put this off much longer. I need to see drastic changes within a couple months and then I'll add the removed exercises back in.

Did I miss anything?

Good write up. I think for everyone, but especially those of us with injuries, the bolded is the most important. The few hours in the gym are not enough to counteract poor positioning through the rest of the day.

I've been working on my sleep position but even with pillows and blankets under my knee, I find I still pull my legs up further, putting my hips in an awkward position. I also still throw my arms over my head eventually.

My girlfriend causes me to sleep in the most awkward positions. It kills my posture, but what can you do?

Any part time trainers on here? I'm considering getting certified to get some extra income and channel a passion into something tangible. What's the best cert?

Saw this the other day, thought it was relevant.

Bolded my problem.... slouched over at work constantly but catching myself and readjusting, or being home and falling into my sofa and sinking into comfort.. etc.

Yup, I have the same problem. It's hard when you've had bad habits for your whole life. It's constant reminders.

Really depends what you want. If you want to do professional or client training you are better off getting killer abs and working on sucking up to clients. Gyms don't really care what your certification is as long as you can chat with people, talk about how their day went, and upsell memberships or classes.

If you want to do performance training or like work for USATF then you best be a former athelete with contacts or some kind of university degree

I would recommend figuring out what good posture is. Its kind of hard to describe, especially since most people have terrible posture or can't tell the difference. It is a lot of internal monitoring and feel rather then having a straight back.

Might be an issue with your technique. How long a break are you taking between sets?

About two minutes. Tried 120 again last night and got sets of 5, 5, and 3. It's hard to really monitor my form bc there aren't any full length mirrors at my gym. I feel like my form is okay, but I don't really have any way of knowing for sure.

Not healthy, feels like i'm falling apart, but I still did some moderate squats for a bunch of x5/3/2 sets followed by x5/8 RDLs and x5/8 lying tricep extensions (non pullover) up to 160x5 which was a pb for me this year. I'm using hook grip and alternating my mixed grips on heavier sets for RDLs. My hook fails past 300 because my thumbs go numb.

This hasn't happened in a while but my sweat was smelling like ammonia way too much and went through my deoderant. I couldn't even stand smelling myself I had to put some more deo mid-workout. I ate and drank well above maintenance today and yesterday. I ate between 2000-2500 calories in two meals today with 3-4 glasses of milk and 2-3 of water.

Why not use your cell phone to record a video of yourself doing it? That way you can pay attention to the movement and then critique it afterward. If you can't prop it up somewhere, I'm sure someone would be willing to film you for 45 seconds.

For real though, on my Deadlifts today, I reached 165 before I decided to finish out the sets at 165. Taking it nice and slow to make sure I get the form right at higher weights. I am a tad concerned about the fatigue my back was feeling, is this supposed to happen? Result of bad form? It only happened on the last 2 sets, which were both 5 reps @ 165lbs.

Also, my bench will not go back up to reppin 170...I think I'm gonna start 3x a week again. That's what got it there quick. Same with deads.

EDIT: In other news, I've discovered McDoubles with no onions to be my favorite pre-workout snack. Cheap, close, delicious.

I'm really having a difficult time figuring out which type of supplement I should get, whey protein, meal replacement or a weight gainer.

I mean whey would only help in the protein category and I feel I need a bit more help in calories and carbs but it quickly absorbed. If I'm correct meal replacements and weight gainers would serve the same purpose nutrition wise except for the fact that I'd get more calories, carbs and protein from weight gainers.

decisions, decisions, decisions...

Id find a healthier snack than McDoubles to have preworkout. Not something you should be eating even semi-regularly.

:p it works (the 3 times I've done it) and I only get 1. Much better than working out on an empty stomach. but you're right, I do need to eat better. I'd be so fucking amazing if I didn't eat fast food once a week minimum.

Buy Whey and use it to make a shake with real food instead of weight gainer.

How hard are the first two sets? Make sure you are reducing any lever arm. I bet with some tweaks you'll get it. I wouldnt drop down weight just yet. Next time take 4 minutes before last set

No, a McDouble is never the best pre-workout option unless your goal is to be an obese powerlifter that has purple feet and can't walk up a flight of stairs without gasping for air. Eat a fucking apple. Make an extra chicken breast the night before. Half half a tub of cottage cheese.

Regular McDonalds is the start of a dark and dreary path.

Do any of you guys live in Norway? I will be there for a month soon visiting some family and am having a really hard time trying to figure out how to eat clean in that freaking country. First the food is really expensive and eating out you have so few options. For the record I am doing Leangains.

Yeah, I'll have to try this. I actually met another guy doing SS last time I was at the gym so I'm sure he won't mind recording a set for me.

Yeah, it's just tubes. He was born with cleft lip so he's prone to ear infections.

It's just easier to repeat the week. No big loss really.

Also, I've not been getting much sleep, too much dark souls, haha.

I'm here, and eating clean IS very difficult because it's so expensive. Having a chicken fillet for lunch every day like some of the guys here is impossible on a normal budget. Eggs and milk are more reasonably priced in the big supermarkets, and you can find cheap tuna. It's going to cost four times as much as in the USA no matter what you do, though.

Right, I am part Norwegian so I know all about the horrors of the prices over there. While driving there is little more than hotdogs on the road and in town the most reasonable thing eating out is Mcdonalds, I mean you get tired pretty quickly of eating overpriced Indian food for dinner. THe things I survive on are like Mackerel I tomat and eggs I guess. Wish me luck!! =)

Here, here. Let's read some REAL diet advice that's not from obese powahlifters.
