Hey guys, so I'm planning on doing a sprint triathlon this May. I don't have any experience when it comes to training for a triathlon. I'm a pretty bad swimmer and I have done very little cycling. The good thing is that I'm in pretty good running shape since I've been training for a marathon thats coming up soon. I was wondering if you guys had any tips on triathlon training or know of any good resources. Thanks in advance.

Even strawberry flavored Greek yogurt? Or are you only eating plain yogurt?

Plain has one or two grams more protein for the same price.

I add two cups of plain Chobani, blueberries, and my whey to my protein shake. Add a little bit of vanilla extract and it tastes amazing.

Yeah I usually can't stomach the plain version. I usually by Honey or Mango flavor in my local trader joes.

You're not really "supposed" to eat plain yogurt by itself. But gdt brings up a great point. You can use plain yogurt as a lower calorie, (and if you're using the strained variety) higher protein alternative to sour cream in many dishes. Anything that doesn't require the sour cream's fat content, like as a topping for a baked potato or something.

  • Height: 189 cm (6'2")
  • Weight: 79 kg (174 lbs)
  • Goal: Not be skinny, i.e. grow moderate amount of muscles.
  • Current Training Schedule: Two-split with too many isolation exercises I believe. Honestly I'd like to just trash it. (ask if it's important though)
  • Current Training Equipment Available: Barbell and two dumbbells with total 50 kg weight or something. No racks.
  • Comments: Can't afford to go to the gym atm (really shitting expensive around here), so I'm looking for advice on how I can make the best of the equipment I have. It sucks since both deadlifts and squats are kind of out of the picture for me. Should add that I'm really weak for my height, I can just barely bench 50 kg for a few sets, never attempted squats or deadlifts with any serious weight. I think my biggest problem is my lower back though, it hinders me from doing planks and crunches for any longer amount of time.

2 (actual measuring) cups or 2 cups of chobani greek yogurt?

Also, how many ounces is this shake?

Wasn't plain btw, but with pineapples. Towards the end, it wasn't too bad. The pineapple at the bottom started to mix well with the yogurt.

Hey guys, so I've started working out again last week after taking a 3-month break due to fucking up my wrist at the gym a while back. I'm doing the beginner workout from the OT, but I need a suggestion for a replacement. I can do pretty much all the below exercises, but I can't do power cleans because I get sharp pains in my wrist and I will probably end up dropping the bar on myself. Are there any good substitutes that I can replace power cleans with? I know it's a great exercise in its own right, but I just can't pull it off right now.

Monday
Squat - 3 sets of 5
Bench Press - 3 sets of 5
Deadlifts - 1 set of 5
Pull-Ups - 3 sets of 8-15

Wednesday
Squat - 3 sets of 5
Overhead Press - 3 sets of 5
Power Cleans - 5 sets of 3
Abdominal work

Friday
Squat - 3 sets of 5
Bench Press - 3 sets of 5
Deadlift - 1 set of 5
Bent Over Rows - 3 set of 5
Arm work, if desired

Just do barbell rows instead of cleans on Wednesdays and obviously don't do rows on Fridays. Keep everything else the same. I know some people will harp on you to do them especially because Rippetoe emphasizes it but you don't have to do them as long as you're doing everything else.

Why not just do them with the bar until you get the form down properly?

So does anyone here have any good recipes for chicken / turkey / tuna? Having a bit of a high protein phase for a few months and I know it's only going to be a matter of time before I'm completely sick of them.

It's not the weight that's the issue, it's the fact that twisting my wrist in that fashion sends sharp, shooting pains down my arm. I can do all the other exercises because my wrists tend to stay straight and in one position, but cleans require me to twist my wrist around, and that could be dangerous. Once my wrist heals fully I'll go back to power cleans.

So rows on Wednesday, no rows on Friday, and instead do a little more arm work on Friday? Cool I'll give it a shot. I've always heard exactly what you said - that power cleans are amazing so I should always be doing them, but I am just physically incapable of doing them right now so I'm trying to find ways to replicate its advantages.

Amazing workout today, even with all of the weights I'm pushing raised by 10 (I'll start raising everything by 5lbs instead from now on). I feel so good. Up'd my protein shake to 12oz fat free milk with a scoop and half too. I'm gonna start tackling power cleans soon too.

Good god greek yogurt tastes horrid. It's like sourcream. I was able to get the cup down, but still.

Why don't you give it a few more tries before you stop. That was my first reaction, but a few cups later and I love it. I think that's just the way it works.

My fav Chobani flavors are Dark Cherry and Strawberry. Strawberry Banana is a good 2% fat Chobani.

Buying Pringles was a big mistake.

Can't. Stop.

I know that feel, bro. Ate a 26.5 oz jar of Nutella after my intense cardio workout yesterday because I was so hungry and had no other food in the house. Scooped that shit up like ice cream.

So much burgers and hot dogs yesterday. So good as well.

1x5 @ 280 for squats. Feeling great! And a bit sore. Still stalling out at 165 for OHP though. So close to that 5th rep. This week is the week I get it!

Gotta get used to it. Cottage cheese and greek yogurt were two things I absolutely couldn't eat. But I've gotten so used to the taste that it really doesn't taste like anything lol.

:lol

That being said, the whole large can of Pringles has less than 100 g of carbs. Kinda show how silly the 300 g recommended is. Gotta eat a LOT of junk to get to that much.

Anyone has any experience with this:

Tons of positive reviews. Would it be a good idea to drink this IF I still want to lose some body fat, but increase mass?

I'm feeling sick, should I skip working out today? Have a little cough, feel warmer than usual, have a mild headache, and body aches in legs and arms. It feels bad since I've been working out for 5 weeks straight without missing a day, but I think it's best to just go home and rest. Don't want to be irresponsible either and infect people at the gym.

I cheated hard on my diet yesterday. Well, only for one meal. Had a big fucking cheesesteak (which was probably one of the best I've ever had, including Jim's in Philly) and fries. I came afterwards.

I've missed the last week due to being sick, but the last thing I want is to cough up a lung while trying to bench and drop the weight on myself, or to get half the people at the gym sick as well.

Won't hurt you long-term, not one bit.

When you started on creatine did you gain a bit of weight just from water retention. It appears I have gained 3 pounds in a week while on a slow cut diet.

Yeah don't worry about it, with your discipline you'll be right back to it.

Hey folks,
the wife wants a treadmill for jogging, walking and maybe the occasional sprint but, after looking into it for a little while, we realized that they're all so damn bulky with giant silly consoles.
Are there very simple, compact but reliable and reasonably priced non-manual treadmills out there for our needs?

I remember a while back in one of the fitness threads someone posted a link to an Applescript (or something similar) that would take songs in a playlist and chop them up into lengths of time that correspond to HIIT intervals. You could set how long your rest and sprint times were, how many of each, etc, and it would spit out a custom playlist for the workout. I think it even had a countdown right before the song change to let you know you're about to switch from sprint to jog or viceversa.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? I can't find it anywhere, but I want to start some HIIT sessions once a week and it'd be a great thing to have. I need music while running, and this would also cut out the need to get a watch or timer and constantly be checking it.

Two Chobani cups of Greek yogurt.

I'm not too sure about the ounces. I use the Magic Bullet smoothie cup so it's smallish. It's pretty thick though. I add a little milk to loosen it up.

Hmm, review aggregator Consumer Search specifically points out the Lifespan TR200 and the Horizon Fitness Evolve SG as compact alternatives in it's budget treadmill roundup. They're both under $700, and they both get generally favorable customer reviews on Amazon.com. And none of the models in the under $800 price range have the ridiculous looking consoles the many of the most recommended higher priced treadmills have.

But that compactness and price point come with drawbacks. The machines use low powered motors with low top speeds (8 MPH for the Lifespan and 6 MPH for the Horizon), and they both have very small belts. Those two things combined make it difficult to recommend either of them for regular jogging. The Horizon Fitness brand offers a 1 year warranty on electronics and motor (long for this price range, but short if you went $500 higher), while Lifespan only offers 90 days.

Overall though, for budget machines, Consumer Search recommends another, larger treadmill from Horizon Fitness called the Horizon Fitness T101. It is quite a bit larger, but that allows for a meatier motor (2.25 HP), wider belt and frame, and sturdier chassis. So you can actually run occasionally on this thing, no sweat. It also comes with an automatic incline, if that's something that's important to you. And, for space saving purposes, I think it's foldable.

ETA:
Two Chobani cups of Greek yogurt.

Hmm, I'm not sure what the point in getting strained yogurt over unstrained yogurt is if you're adding milk to it. The whole point was that they're taking the whey out. And when they do that the product has less calories (and more protein per serving) than an unstrained 3% fat yogurt.

But if you're adding milk (basically readding the whey, carbs, and milkfat), can't you just save a little money, and add a little more plainjane yogurt than you were before?

I will say the only downside to 5/3/1 is hogging equipment. Nobody ever uses free weights anyway but I plant my ass on a flat bench and don't leave for a good half hour to get through my work sets, 5x10, and accessory work.

I really couldn't care less about hogging shit. If
you want to work in, ask. Don't expect me to ask you though as you mope around.
