I got mine from this guy on ebay. 85$ with shipping which I think is a good deal. Also the vest itself is good. Fully loaded to 60lbs it fits really flush and snug on your torso...if you aren't use to the weight you do feel it a lot at first in your shoulders. Right now though I am just starting with 20lbs in it and working my way up and so far doing things like pullups, pushups, and squats in it has been pretty comfortable, and I dont even wear a shirt with it either.

I bought that vest from eBay from the manufacturer, it's amazing for the price.

People thinking about getting one should order it hands down.

Amazon has it but it's more expensive because of the shipping price.

I just bought it. Very excited for this.

Finally I can do push-ups, inverted rows, and more weighted.

Quick question musclebound GAF. Weighted vests: Yay or Nay?

Edit: More specifically, does it help with core strength or what?
I can't speak to their usefulness in training but they are fucking awesome for stripping off after the first few moments of a battle in order to show you're only now getting serious.

I do that all the time in my anime fights.

But then the other guy does it too wtf.

Will be doing sprints tomorrow for the first time in more than a week, strained a groin muscle the last time I did them and have been doing stretching everyday since then. I've been dying to get back to them, I had the runners high the last time I did them, did 10x100M sprints all out, its addictive.

Is it alright if I have my legs much wider apart than usual for Squats? I feel like that's the only way I'd be able to improve on my Squats because I've been stuck with that lift for so long while I'm easily improving on my DL and other lifts.

Post a video so we can see what's giving you trouble.

As soon as I hit parallel, I feel like half my quads just suddenly stop working and I have to force it up in a very awkward and uncomfortable fashion. If I stuck to having perfect form on my Squats for each set (doing 3x8-10), I'd probably only get like 4 reps in.

My back also comes forward so much that I'm almost just lifting my ass up exclusively towards the end.

Is it because I'm tall (I'm 6ft)?

I think the wide stance works more the hamstrings/glutes while a narrow stance works more the quads.

A lot of power lifters seem to use a wide stance.

That's why I run on hills instead. The risk of injury is much lower.

Not every rep will be perfect. At some point after you get the general motor pattern down, you just need to squat and keep squatting. Breakdown in form WILL happen. You just have to get stronger and be mindful of making corrections for the next session

Last night I ran into my first asshole at the gym. He asked me how many sets I had left of squats, I told him 2, but asked if he wanted to work in. He gave me this weird flippant snort laugh while rolling his eyes and said "No, I'll just wait". At that point I thought he might be an asshole but kinda reserved judgement thinking maybe I took his response wrong. But then after I finish one set he comes back over and starts doing stretches ON THE SQUAT RACK I'M USING. I'm not gonna do my set while some dude is stretching on my equipment, so I just sit there and wait until he goes away, would've waited an hour if that's how long it took. After like 5 minutes and him growing visibly impatient, he finally asks me how many sets I have left. I tell him 1, and then he finally leaves so I can finish my set.

The worst part was that he was doing the same weight as me, no warm ups. Could have easily worked in. He was going less than halfway down too.

Well I just did a workout which included shoulders, not on my chest workout day, and I got the best shoulder workout ever. Almost twice the weight I'd normally use. Never going back. Thanks for the advice!

I have to have my legs wider or else my quads hit my thighs and i can't go down that far. Also I feel like squats suck for tall people more than other exercises suck for tall people.

There's nothing wrong with 4 reps if you're doing correct form. There is something wrong with 10 reps if they're phoned in.

I thought you get more strength when doing higher reps with Squats?

Look in the OP for the rep range chart. It's pretty spot on, that applies to any muscle or exercise.

The overall point though is to perfect your form first, then focus on honing in the right rep count.

Anytime. I wouldn't go back either. Smart man.

As long as you take it easy you should be fine. Don't wanna screw it up even more haha

That is true. Still gonna go hard but I know my limits.

At the time it was after my 2nd shoulder injury but before my 2nd shoulder surgery -- so I wasn't lifting for about a year.

Remember, worry about what you CAN do now and not what you can't do. If you can't grip pull-up bars then don't worry about not doing them. It's not the end of the world as you can still do other things.

For example, in your situation I likely would be a Hill Sprints champion by the time I got my splint off.

Haha. Fair enough. I might focus more on cardio. Or even do more of a bodyweight routine. Start my cut early and try Insanity or some ish like that. I guess my biggest concern is that I don't want to lose the muscle I have worked so hard to gain. For damn sure, I won't be able to deadlift so I will try to incorporate machines/free weights that will target my back. Same concept with OHP. No idea if I can still bench but I doubt that =/

Today is the day I squat 200. Wish me luck!

Good luck!

I been in that situation before and it happens more than once. After a while you just do your own thing and ignore what they are doing. I hate when people just look at me while I am using the rack or other weights. No, I'm not going to finish faster just because you are here.

I actually disagree with this. I'm over 6 foot and I have a hard time with the narrow stances on both squats and DL.

I switched to slightly wider stances for both lifts and now that's the only way I will do them.

experiment and see what works for you. if wider stance (with good form) feels more natural then do them that way.

If you want to bring in more quads on the wide stance squat keep your heels on 5lbs plates or a board rather than flat on the floor. some people will argue against doing that, but again I say experiment and see what works best for you.

I'm ripped probably because of my high protein low carb diet, but then again, I'm not sure if I eat a low carb diet. As far as carbs go, I eat a cup of oatmeal in the mornings with sliced bananas, then with my shake I drink a cup of milk with another banana, apart of my chicken breast for lunch, I eat kashi crackers with cream cheese with herbs in it and then my greek yogurt with honey. Then for late night snack I eat cinnamon raisin muffin with almond butter.

Either way, I've noticed that ever since I stopped eating an extra chicken breast and other foods, I've gotten more lean, yes, but I'm more shredded, and even a bit more musclar. My strength hasn't gone down that's for sure.

I'm 6'2". I can squat well below parallel high bar, low bar, front squat, body weight squats, etc. I pull with my feet inside the knurl on a standard 6" barbell. 6'+ is not extraordinarily tall and is not by itself preclude a normal range of motion on any of the standard lifting stances.

Lower calories = lower bf%.

Nice work! I try and stay under 100 g's of carbs a day except for the night before chest and legs. Those nights I will consume large amounts and have much more strength that next day. It's really noticeable.

Looks like you are sitting around 180-200g's for your daily intake and even that is very low.

I returned to the gym today after two weeks off per my doctor's recommendation due to my ongoing lower back injury. I did legs and abs, and tried to keep things light. I'm worried I still went too hard though as I'm feeling slight pain in my back again. I'm gonna put a heat pack on it again and hope for the best.

I'm so frustrated at this point. I'm nearing two months since I've first injured it, at a time when I was making great gains in my squats. I did tons of stretching today, went light, and I still have pain. AND I don't even know what the injury is! I only know that my x-rays were negative and I don't get pain in my legs. Fuck this.

What kind of stretching are you doing?

And is the pain just localized in the center of your lower back?

How did you injure the back? What other symptoms do you have ? What kind of pain is it ? Where is the pain?? X-rays will only reveal so much, has the dr. recommended an MRI ?

I'm not sure what the stretch is called, but if I were to describe it I lie face down on the floor with my arms in a pushup position, and push myself up until my arms are fully extended, so that my back arches while my legs remain on the ground. It seems to hit my lower back pretty well.

I also do posture stretches where I touch the ground with my hands while sitting, then sit back up and sit with an exaggerated posture, and then return back to a regular proper posture.

The pain is only in my lower back, a bit above the tail bone. The pain was more in my right side before, although over the past couple of weeks I haven't noticed that as much. No pain that I can remember in my butt or legs or anything.

I think one of the issues that has extended the healing process is the fact that I commute to class five days a week, which involves 3-4 hours of commuting per day where I'm sitting on a train or a bus, and when combined with the sitting in class that I do I end up sitting for much of the day. I try to stand when I can, but the opportunities are fleeting.

I've also been taking naproxen pills twice a day, and occasionally using a heat pack on my back. If there's anything else I could do I'd love to know. I'm only 20-years-old, I don't want to deal with back problems so early in my lifting days.

EDIT: I injured my back while squatting 315 for reps. At the last rep I think I arched my back inwards too far, and I felt a tweak I hadn't felt before. My back hasn't been the same since, although recently it has gotten better.

And no, the doctor hasn't recommended an MRI, which I thought was odd considering it would show if I slipped a disc or something, correct? I didn't ask him about it because I'm insured under my parents still, and I don't the ordeal to cost them extra money.

You need to do some hip flexor stretches in addition to the McKenzie stretch you're already doing. Your hip flexors (psoas) might be tight and/or weak and sitting in class and committing is only making it worse. The psoas muscle also directly attaches to your lumbar vertebrae.

Here is a great video by Smitty Diesel showing how to fix any hip issues. Pay close attention to his instructions, especially when in that split-stance lunge in that you're supposed to contract your glutes to stretch your hip flexors. That is very important.

Also, if you have a foam roller try and foam roll your quads as well. Lower back pain is extremely tricky as there could be tons of reasons why you're feeling it. Sometimes it could be a disc issue, others it could be tight/weak muscles, posture, etc.

If your legs aren't working, in yoga that pose is called cobra (bhujangasana). To perform that pose safely, make sure your head is inline with your spine, the tops of your feet are pressed into the floor, and that your shoulders are back and down. Counter your backbend with a counterstretch, like child's pose (balasana).

If you have back trouble, don't extend your arms completely. And make sure your pelvis always has contact to the ground.

Story time! I have never been able to do unassisted dips. I'd do maybe 5 or so at the most, usually towards the end of my workout.

The other day, I did my SL program of squats, bench, pendlays, and after I did 4 SETS OF 10! I was so excited and amazed. Just finished 3rd week of SL

Finished up my arms day yesterday, but wanted to do something a little extra, so I did an extra exercise for both.

Did some dips, which was great, but the cherry was the pullups. Haven't done those in such a long time, and it was really great doing them again. Felt awesome. Had full control and did the full rom.

Not sure if I should try to do weighted next time or what, seeing as I'm not sure if just adding reps would help gain more size. (Already doing 8 reps)

Hi guys so I just bought some whey protein for the first time in my life. I have absolutely no idea how to use it, so maybe you guys can help me out. I usually eat old fashioned and steel cut oats for breakfast and I was thinking that I could add the whey protein to the oatmeal instead of using honey. I can add it to my plain Greek yogurt as well right?

Any basic tips on squats? I generally try to do any leg exercise that isn't a barbell squat because I've always had such difficulty with them, and maybe because it's kind of a dangerous exercise to fuck up. I tried to use the squatting rack at the gym that has the barbell on a fixed vertical track, but I just can't seem to get the bar comfortable on my shoulders. How exactly is it supposed to rest on your shoulders/upper back? Any good instructional youtube videos or anything?

Dont use the smith machine. The fixed track means you have to force your body in an unnatural position.

You can add it to anything you want. If it tastes good is another thing. Most people mix it with water or milk though.

Whey + water = dogshit

Whey + milk = better than crap

Generally it gets extremely boring after a week of drinking. Right now I have a load of whey in the corner. I would rather have tuna than drink whey.

Just got Strawberry version of this from GNC, asked for something with no carbs and that dissolves quick. Nutrition wise it's pretty magical, 25g protein for 110cal with virtually no carbs. I shudder at the artificial ingredients used to sweeten it though, hope they used stevia. It does feel a bit thin when mixing a scoop with half a shaker of water, maybe I should try less water?
