Like I said, I have small feet for my height. In order for me to have the bar do a straight line it needs to put a lot of pressure on my shins. I have been using bad form by keeping the bar super close but not touching the shins, but the weight is more over my toes than I should be doing this. While I haven't hurt anything or feel any pain, I can tell the leverage is bad and I could do more weight if it touched my shins.

Think I might try these though: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003IZ8HW2/?tag=neogaf0e-20
Those are perfect. I use them to guard my precious shin skin during deadlifts. They are just thick enough to prevent the bar from scraping away flesh, but thin so they don't get in the way.

I was just thinking about this earlier today.....how do you know if you're experiencing CNS burnout and need to take a break, or if you're just regular ol' pooped?

Hey fitness-gaf I've got a few questions.

I'm a relatively out-of-shape dude with an office job. About a month ago I started two "programs" which are pretty much just an excuse to get off my ass and do stuff with my body.

They are these:

http://hundredpushups.com/week1.html

http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

I'm on week 3 of hundred pushups and that's going well, I may have to repeat a few days until I can finish the set I'm working on (week 3 day 2 is killing me)

But I'm on week 5 of couch to 5k and I'm having some actual pain that doesn't seem normal or healthy. Up until this point, running has been tough, but most of the toughness has been exhaustion. Now, I just finished week 5 day 2 (walk 5 mins, run 8 mins, walk 5 mins, run 8 mins, walk 5 mins) and about 3-4 minutes in to each running session my right leg (shin specifically) starts to burn badly. By the time I had finished the second running session, it burned so bad I almost had to sit down. My left leg was fine, but my right leg from the knee down was basically just meat I had to drag up with my thigh.

Am I running awkwardly and putting more pressure on that leg? Is this normal 'growing pain' type stuff? Just wanna get some input from some people with more experience. Also, a friend of mine told me I should eat a protein bar after every time I exercise. Is this good advice?

Any input is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

edit: Also I should mention: I tore my ACL in my right knee when I was about 10. I had problems with it throughout middleschool when I played sports, but had a brace. For the past 6 or 7 years I haven't really been physical at all with my leg, and I just kinda figured it'd have healed in that time. Something to be concerned about?

Overtraining would be nervous system burnout. Some people think that overtraining is also a form of adaptation (see bulgarian lifters) or look up john broz's ideas, but most people think it needs to be periodized. Symptoms are:

Persistent muscle soreness
Persistent fatigue
Elevated resting heart rate
Reduced heart rate variability
Increased susceptibility to infections
Increased incidence of injuries
Irritability
Depression
Mental breakdown

Fuck yeah upped weight on all lifts tonight and still got extra reps on the 3rd/final sets.

Squat 235x5/x5/x6
OHP 125x5/x5/x6
Power Cleans 170x3/x3/x3/x3/x5

Ready to add more weight next round. So I'm happy as hell about that, I walk by my work and a coworker sees me and tells me I forgot to pick up my tips, awesome, but then I get home and my girlfriend tells me she's listening to some Linkin Park remix NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Sweeeet, yeah, gonna try dem out.

tip #40 mocks me.

Nah, not ejaculating likely builds up testosterone levels. It's pretty much impossible for me since I'm not single, but ideally I'd be wacking it/fucking only once every 7 days or so.

Goddammit Fitness-age, I'm still sick with hay fever. My throat is sore as fuck and hurts. :(

I want to jog and exercise so bad but I can't. does not feel good man. the urge to eat comfort food doesn't help either.

Had a solid session after work last night this morning at 6.30am. The gym was empty so was able to get through everything without waiting for people to use the bench etc. Starting to feel the soreness in my legs from doing squats again which is making walking harder than it should be. Hopefully I'll get my strength back to a decent level within the next few weeks.

Also saw some women squat for the first in my gym which was cool, most of the women in my gym just hit up the mats for some stretches or the treadmill/elliptical.

So yesterday was supposed to be triceps and shoulders, but I had to work at this even for the whole day (10 in the morning to like 7) and I didn't get to lift. Today is planned as back and calf day.

So, I can't lift on the weekends, so I'm not sure what to exactly do. Should I combine the two days and do them today, or should I just do back and calf?

I've never had them but you might want to look up shin splints and see if it matches what you're feeling. As far as your knee goes just don't go pushing it crazy. Learn your limits with it. Only you can know how much it's healed.

I've been having some lower back pains recently around my erector muscles. I had assumed they were back pumps from all the focus I've been doing on mid/lower back lately. Then I started piecing some stuff together. I've been on a clean bulk for about 5 weeks now and in the middle of last week I decided to cut more fat from my diet and up the protein a bit. So I took around 40-50 grams of fat and put those calories towards more protein. Well it was around then that the pain started and then I started thinking about the last time I had a really good solid poop. Probably since the middle of last week. So last night I bought a laxative and let 'er rip. Good God! I feel so much better. I guess the amount of fiber I've been used to isn't enough to cover all the extra protein. I never knew being backed up could cause lower back pain until I started googling it.

Meh, over-exerted myself this morning on lunges and dry heaved in the bathroom. Got bad cold sweats and a bad headache so I ended my workout there. The worst part was I thought I was going to make it until I got to the bathroom and there was a bucket/mop with bleach water and that pushed me over the edge.

Guess an apple wasn't enough for breakfast. Luckily it was at the tail end of my workout so I got everything else in.

Been trying to cut down on wheat/gluten/refined sugars.

What are your thoughts on 3 days on 2 days off?

I did 3 rounds of this on Wednesday:
Squat 225X15,10,5
OHP 135X15,10,5
Chin 15,10,5
Dip 15,10,5

Meaning that without any rest in between exercises I would do 15 reps, move on to the next exercise and do 15 reps until the circuit was complete. Each circuit I would cut 5 reps and there is no rest in between ciruits

Yesterday was:
Deadlift 275x15,10,5
Dumbell Squat Thrusters 35x15,10,5
Chin 15,10,5
Dips 15,10,5

Today was
Bench 185x15,10,5
Overhead Squat 135x15,10,5
Chin 15,10,5
Dip 15,10,5

Then rest tomorrow and Sunday. Is that too much?

Are you indicating this is a normal occurrence for you?

it is for me! After my Squat circuit this week, I couldn't get off the floor for 10 minutes and almost puked. It's been SOP for me for years when I do heavy circuits to be out of commission for at least 10-20 minutes post work out.

Anyone ever have their skin breakout from working out/dieting?

I've been working out pretty seriously for about a year, I lost around 50lbs, about 9% body fat, and have just generally greatly increased my muscular and cardio fitness level. About 3 weeks ago I went on a week long business trip where I decided to step it up notch. So basically I did the equivalent of my "hard" workout everyday that week and reduced my diet to protein (tuna, and chicken), wheat, leafy greens, and nonfat milk or water.

So about halfway through that week I noticed like a couple largish red blotches on my skin around my midsection... which over the next 2 or 3 days turned into a full blown rash over almost my entire upper body.

So now, about 3 weeks later the blotches have kind of turned into smallish "bumps?" I guess... It doesn't itch, it doesn't hurt, it's worse after I've been working out and better for about an hour or so after showering... I've tried Neosporin body wash for dry skin and eczema, and some other herbal type remedies.... I'm considering making a doctors appointment now (like no duh right?) but I'd like to avoid getting antibiotics or a steroid that I know they are going to give me... I'm not against the doctor... I just don't want to pay the co-pay when I know it's just gonna be like a "well take these drugs are going to speed up the process but all we can really do is wait".

Anyway, my question is just: Is this normal? Do you think it's from furiously working out and dieting for that week? (Maybe it jacked up my hormones? or maybe like mercury in the tuna or something?) Is the doctor visit actually gonna be worth the 100 bucks or so it will cost me? Should I just eat the co-pay to make sure I don't have like some flesh eating bacteria or something? Really just any general advice would be awesome.

Also, here's a picture... not sure if you can really see it, but it's just like those small bumps all over my body besides my face and legs really. This was taken during the after shower "better" phase... so it gets a little worse then that... like more reddish and more looking like dry skin.

Got a month left till my police exam. Passed all of my requirements except situps. Plus I want to focus on my running almost exclusively so I can crush the required time.

Feels good bro.

I'm gonna start running every day now. 3 miles (probably with Saturday and/or Sunday off).

Do you eat anything pre-workout? Mornings/afternoons?

Are you taking any new meds? When I was taking predinsone, that would happen quite often. How about really hot showers after your workout? Are you using a mositerizer? If not, cut down the shower time and try a lotion on the skin. That should help. No reason to go to the doctor until you try those two

Did squats on monday and my legs were sore and could barely move the next days. I tried squats again yesterday and I am not even a little bit sore... is this normal?

75) Stop calling yourself a hardgainer. Focus on getting your bench press to 300, squat to 400 and deadlift to 500. Once there, look in the mirror and see if you're still a "hardgainer

1RM I presume?

Looked these up and they seem to be exactly what I'm experiencing. Is it something worth worrying over / go to the doctor about?
