Guilty as charged.

It is meant to come off part tongue-in-cheek, part slap-in-the-face. The less someone has trained the more applicable it generally is. Funny enough, the longer you've trained the less it matters. : P

The longer I train, the more I realize just how fat and out of shape most people are. It sickens me to think what I used to be satisfied being.

People have been brainwashed into thinking that the Hollywood-fit look is actually desirable.

Well, it is to some people. Shit, if you're fat and you're aiming to look like Pitt you're better off than not doing it.

My issue is people see Brad as point "B" and them as point "A" and think "fuck, I'll never look like that" and just give up.

Brad Pitt in fight club really wasn't that aesthetic.

I think their is some objectivity to aesthetics, but come on. The guy is a handsome motherfucker, he's lean/otter mode and not really intimidating. Now if we're talking fit, I'd agree he wasn't really all that fit or athletic, just lean. Not everyone's goal is to be swole. Not everyone can appreciate big ass quads with nice outer quad sweeps like Darth's for example(I'm mirin brah). Guys who put time in the gym are undoubtedly going to have an appreciation for that though!

*recalls that abercombie workout program.

*shudders.

I'm not sure they've been brainwashed into thinking it's desirable, but there's certainly misconceptions about what that sort of build indicates in terms of physical ability, which then extends into negative myths about muscular frames. The way some people talk, if someone is big AND lean they may as well be an invalid; they're slow, inflexible, tire too easily, aren't as strong as they look and lack functional/practical/hard/real muscle. Who ever said you shouldn't judge a book by its cover?

I hear from those people that cardio burns muscle. So, when you cut you can't do too much endurance work or all your muslces will go down.

Oh.

Wait.

Do you think those cyclists are natural? I'm having hard time believing they have never used PED's no matter how many times they have been tested. Those legs are just huge, even a bodybuilder would be jealous of those quads..

Anyway, tested my bench max for the first time in +10 years. My chest training for the last few years has basically constituted of push-ups, push-ups and more push-ups but now I have started going to the gym once a week to do some heavier lifts (i.e. bench, power cleans, deadlift & squat). Managed to bench 254lb (I weigh ca 195) for which I was really pleased. Probably gonna aim for 280-300 by the next summer. Feels good to be benching again.

Holy shit, went to the gym after a 2 week hiatus... I was completely winded after my first set of weighted lunges. Left the gym an hour later about to pass out xD.

Did 195 ATG on squats today. Working my way up.

So accessory stuff. Does anyone ever do it on off days? Between my compounds and accessory stuff, I'm at the gym for like 1.5-2 hours. I wouldn't mind just going on an off day and doing things like flyes and leg curls but always good to check here first if they should really only follow your compounds.

I've got no problem with people dressing like that at the gym IF they have the body to go with it. I do get tired of seeing fat fuckers in cut offs and skinny fuckers the same way.

Fat chicks in booty shorts and small tops, don't even get me started.

But hell, this shit happens outside the gym too, so it is what it is.

Sometimes you have to step back and remind yourself that accessory work is exactly what its name implies. It's just there to fix weak spots. I'm re-evaluating what I do for accessory work right now because along the way I've forgotten this. Most people do WAY too much accessory work. (should be noted "health" type exercises should probably be though of as "other than accessory work" since they keep you from breaking) Examples of those would be face pulls, band pull aparts, external rotations, scarecrows, rear delt flys, lateral raises, etc.

Although in regard to body building, I guess it could be different.

Thinking of trying squats again tomorrow after a 1,5 month break. Thinking of going light and taking 30kg off my 5RM and then maybe increasing 5kg for a few workouts until I get closer to my max.

Also starting my cut at the beginning of November.

After so long away I would forget my 5rm for the initial day and work up from the bar to see where you are, and how you feel. Throw "ego" out the door and simply start with the bar and add weight incrementally to see how you feel, then base your next squat workout off of that.

I would also do an extended warm up with super low weight/body weight.

Oh.

Wait.

The one on the left is (I think) Robert Förstmann, who squats 484lbx8 high bar

This. Also: you will be entering a world of pain the next day. ;)

I get annoyed when I see folks walk in wearing these. Not sure why.Anyone else?

I don't see why get annoyed, If I had beats, I'd wear em'. The only thing annoying about them is people act like they're quality headphones when really they're more of a fashion accessory/statement.

That's another thing.

I couldn't imagine trying to work out with OTE head phones. How does that shit not get in the way? I don't "hate" on people doing it, I just wonder, "WHY?!?"

I can't imagine lifting with a damn headphone cord ever again. My bluetooth headphones are the best workout accessory I've ever purchased.

I think I'm going to stop doing cable rows. I've been doing them on Wednesdays for assistance / hypertrophy purposes but they are starting to bother my shoulders for some reason. I guess I could switch to Pendlay Rows but I have no idea how to program them: my lower back is usually roasted after squats / deadlifts, which is the reason I started doing Cable Rows in the first place instead of rowing with a barbell.

I just tuck the cord under my shirt. It hardly ever gets in the way anymore.

I'd get pissed off buying batteries for those (wireless).

You will get used to it. Simply add them at low weight. I do pendlays after squats AND deads and it's fine, but I also do low weight higher rep because I do Tbars and pullups earlier in the week.

That's another thing you can add. Tbar and/or DB rows.

I stopped listening to music all together. Broke my attention too much.

If you're doing pendlays the right way your back will feel fine. Then again, I'm only at 190lbs with them. I'll get back to you when I hit 225.

I have no idea where I am in Pendelays. I do them after DLs, so I'm pretty wiped. I think I can get up to 175lbs, but I normally just stick with 115-135lbs at 8-10 reps.

IMO "where you are" with them isn't important since they are there as assistance. The important thing is you aren't sacrificing form (the entire purpose of "pendlay rows" for weight).

They are a fantastic back exercise, so long as you're doing them correctly.

Good to know.

Yesterday I started at 135, and my form was completely off after two reps. I stopped, put the weight back on the parallel, changed the weight to 95lbs, and stayed there.

Yeah, that's the thing. It was pretty hard for me not to feel my form was awful. I think I'm gonna do them on Wednesdays after pressing. I'll start at 135lb and go from there, maybe 5lb a week.

From the man himself. Awesome.

Yeah I think I'll do this. I'll add weight for as long as it feels good and start from there.

I personally use Motorola S-10 bluetooth. Quality sound and sweatproof.

Batteries? Just charge them up once in a while (about 7 hours of use per charge) and you're good to go. I don't even think they make them with those type of batteries anymore!

Just throw them on the charger like once a week myself.

I have been doing all body parts except abs. I thought i should wait till i lose some body fat[not that i am overweight] and then do abs. Is this a good idea?

It shouldn't matter since you're doing abs without even knowing it. If you're doing deadlifts, squats, bench, overhead press, etc, you're working on your abs.

what grip are you using with cable rows? v-bar? lat pulldown bar? etc

You could do T-Rows.

GAF, I was hoping to mimic Christian Bale's weight loss program with certain modification. Trust me, losing weight has been very difficult for me and I tend to hit plateau very soon. Also I don't have time to hit the gym everyday. As such, here's the idea:

  • Keep solid food limited to just 2-3 fruits (banana, apple)
  • One egg per day
  • Lots of water
  • Protein shake (to both replenish and compensate) during long walk (on treadmill) and workout regiment almost everyday (for either one of the regiments)
  • Fruit juice either once every day or every two days
  • Vitamin B12 suppliment injection (once every month)

Do you think it'll work for losing weight? At 5'4" I am currently 170LBs (when I first came to Canada eight years ago, I was around 125LBs).

I am not aware of any circumstances under which a diet this drastic is advisable. You're always better off finding something realistically sustainable. tell the thread what you've
been trying in the past that's failed so people can help figure out how to give you a sustainable thing.
