Slow and steady progress. If people stick with 5/3/1 they're gonna make all types of gains. Starting my 6th cycle me soon

Yep, and the NOV/conditioning template is awesome too. It's pretty funny how it can be altered to do pretty much everything.

Quick question for the people with lots of pullups. What do you do for your hands besides chalk/tape? I've been doing this for 2 years and my hands still haven't toughened up enough.

I only use chalk if my hands are slipping on the bar and that's it as far as doing anything for my hands goes. My hands have a bunch of permanent callouses which are very rarely painful, and if they are, are never painful enough to stop me from completing my workout.

What are your thoughts on the TRX straps? I started boxing and doing muay thai and wanted an alternative workout. I still haven't tried them but they are selling extremely cheap on my local craigslist, was thinking about getting them. Anyone have any experience with themm?

Decided to hire an elliptical for home. The weather here has been absolute garbage and it started to unmotivated me to go out and walk so I'll do it at home instead. Last thing I want to do at the end of the day is get soaked and freeze my arse off in the dark.

So I'm going for a vacation for about 7-8 days where I won't be doing any gym training. Maybe some low intensity cardio and the ordinary push-up and sit-ups, but that's it. This means I won't take my ordinary protein shakes and that I won't get the same amount of protein in me (about 1.5gxkilo). Will this affect me in anyway?

Just try to eat more protein, it shouldn't impact you that seriously.

Personally I would do whatever you can body weight wise to stimulate the muscles though.

I wouldn't do shit but enjoy myself. The bars and plates and shakers aren't going anywhere. Eat a ton, sleep a ton, give your muscles and CNS a week off, have a little fun, and then get back to it.

Well, I won't be in charge of what food I'll eat, but I guess I can steal a few extras sips of milk at every meal. :)

Has anyone tried the French vanilla ON whey? Any opinions?

Trying to pick one and not sure what. Vanilla can be used for a lot but some people don't like it. Double chocolate is more popular but there's less you can do with it.

Six-Star Nutrition Whey Isolate in the french vanilla flavor is amazing, if you want to try that brand. 30g protein or so per scoop, too.

It was ok. After tasting and sticking to myofusion, ON flavors taste kind of bland to me now. Great value though and protein is protein.

I had a one-pound container of it sometime last year. it was pretty good. I went back to chocolate without really thinking about it because I'm a boring creature of habit and don't really use whey for anything besides shakes, so the culinary versatility didn't do anything for me.

fish would be fantastic. Shakes will do it but real food should always be considered first. The difference between how I felt and progressed on my lifts were night and day when I replaced shakes with real food.

I personally eat two cans of tuna a day. 200 calories and 52 grams of solid protein. You can eat other fish, tuna is just the only fish i can stomach (i hate fish). Just get creative. As long as it's not junk food and you get a decent amount of protein youre okay. Your diet will evolve over time as you find what works for you.

Man, I guess I'll just have to get used to the tuna on a daily basis. I do currently eat it (about once a week on baked potatoes) but its always slathered in mayo with loads of onions, peppers and sweetcorn to hide the taste. I don't know how y'all can eat it plain, it tastes like wet sand.

Excellent proteinery tips

Thanks

May have pushed myself too hard too quick running last month. I have tenderness in my right fibula area just about 4 inches above my ankle. I hope to hell it's not a stress fracture (or the beginnings of one). I've never had one in my life, and I ran harder in the Army than I am now, but I'm older and I weight much more than I did back then.

Gonna take it easy this week then go balls out on the police exam which should be a piece of cake, then scale back the running a bit.

Just buy gymnastic rings instead.

Hey guys i need some advice. So i have been doing weights for over a year now, and im definitely not as buff as i could be. My goal is to bulk up a little more and then do some cutting.

My main question is i am using a free gym but the free-weights max out at 30 lbs, and i use some machines that i am almost maxing out. I have not really progressed in size, in both fat and muscle over the last 3 months and i think it comes down to me not knowing how to increase my weights or do better exercises.

I also think i am having trouble with my diet. Current in the morning i have a whey protein shake. During lunch i have a chicken sub. Throughout the day i sometimes have coffee with skim milk, and for dinner/after work i have 2 protein shakes and chicken, spinach salad with broccoli and carrots.

What can i add to this to help improve my diet? Im thinking cans of tuna and some yogurt?

Also, how do you go about cutting? Do you just starve yourself? Or do you eat normally, doing the same muscle workouts and scale back protein? Or is it just cardio? Thanks.

I use Vanilla Ice Cream, I've never had it by itself. Always mixed, but that's why I went with Vanilla easier to mix.

The free weights max out at 30lbs? Do you mean the dumbbbells max out at 30lbs, because that's not even a single full plate. You need to get into a real gym, you need to start eating more than some chicken and drinking coffee with skim milk, and follow a proper program.

Was kinda hoping for more specifics, as i already know most of what you said.

Anyone know any good gyms that dont require contracts and are affordable? I have had bad experiences with gyms as i think they are all scam artists. I had to send a certified letter and then 3 months later they discontinue charges just to cancel a membership.

24hr fitness doesn't require a contract

you just pay the first and last month up front and then when you cancel you have the membership for 1 more month

I used to buy protein powder from Costco but it looks like they stopped carrying it at my location so I'm looking for a new cheap alternative. Does the recession whey taste fine in fruit smoothies? Is the shipping ridiculous?

I'm wondering about this too. So far, I figure it's just keeping your protein up, raising the amount of fat you eat, and lowering your carbs and calories (to like 100g carbs and 1800 calories or something), but I'm not 100% sure. I'm not sure at all about workouts, but it sounds like it may depend on how fast you want to burn calories

Keep lifting weights, keep up your protein, lower your total amount of calories to below maintenance. Depending on how aggressive you lower your total calorie intake you might have to scale back your workouts a bit (either lower the weight or remove a set).

Greatly appreciated!

Would you guys agree in saying that upper back/shoulders/traps respond to lifting the best of all other muscle groups? I only say that because I've noticed quick growth there in two weeks of going to the gym, whereas the rest of my body hasn't seemingly changed much. Also, it appears that a majority of the initial fat I have lost has been from my legs... is that the case for you guys as well? My calves are looking nice!

It could be that those muscles havent been worked as much as the others and so you will see more difference there.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll hold out for now and flip a coin since it's split. Being in the UK my options are kinda limited.

Sort of off topic but does anyone have any recommendations or brands on getting suits when you have an athletic build? Big legs/ass mostly (compared to the average person).

I rarely need to wear a suit but going to a wedding in 3 weeks. I'm on my way to Men's Warehouse to look around but I hear bad things about it.

They can do some alterations if you need a bigger size that has to be tapered in other areas.

I know you guys discuss diet alot in the last one.
As someone looking for a good size breakfast with high calories what should I get?
I'm about to buy groceries for a couple weeks.

My legs (and butt :lol) respond the best, while my arms seem to want to stay weak and small.

So I'm trying to log my workout on fitocracy. What do you call the exercise where you do dumbbell front raise, swing your arms out like a cross, then down...then reverse all of that to return to resting position at waist?

EDIT: Got it, just had to log two different exercises: Front Dumbbell Raise and Dumbbell Side Lateral Raise.

Eggs, bacon, oatmeal, steak (if you can afford it), bread for toasting, butter, milk, sausage.

Might have to get a suit that looks good and nearly fits then have it tailored.
