I do a bit. I rotate my shoulders back, then press my back muscles together as much as I can, and place my heels under my hips (or as close as possible). This is all supposed to make your chest the most dominant muscle group getting the stress from the motion right? I think I'm gonna try arching a bit more and see how it turns out.
Yeah play with it a bit see what agitates it and what works.
Any of you guys do martial arts on top of training?

I'm considering it but I wonder if I have to adjust my training for it.

Haven't seen him post super recently but Team Jones does boxing and lifting

I use to box in college and lift at the same time.

Tiring on the body if you are doing it at a competitive level and serious sparring. I want to get into MMA training but right now I work out every day with lifts on 5 days and cardio on 2. I would think switching the cardio to MMA days would work but my body would eventually start breaking down lol

HOLY SHIT

I was struggling to understand why my sodium intake was so insanely high......

Fucking pickles in sandwiches D: . . . . . . .

RUINED. Jesus.

weirdly enough, my deadlifts have been increasing, but my squats have been stagnant for 2 weeks now. Any accessories I should do to get my squat moving again?

Sort of a random question, but does anyone have any recommendations for any fitness profiles to follow that inspire/motivate you? I'm behind the times and just recently got on Instagram.

Charlotte (WWE), Alexia_Clark, JenSelter, SquatGirlsGuide... every morning when my alarm goes off and I don't wanna get up, I just boot up one of those girls and it motivates me to get my ass into the gym and melt off the fat.

True story.

Not really any fitness personalities since they can create unrealistic expectations--hint they're all on gear.

But I do like Kevin Hart's instagram funnily enough. Sure he may do some TRT, but his body is pretty naturally obtainable (though gotta hit those legs more, Kev) and it's mostly about his work ethic of working out, not his results.

He's always posting from different gyms given his busy travel and touring schedule, but he makes it happen.

He's also a big runner if you're into that.

Very inspiring.

Not so stealthy new car stealth brag. Too bad I can only afford the cheapest car available after a mortgage, new car for the wife, and 3 kids that eat like monsters!

Holyshit...didn't know Burger King had 2 for $6 deals.

2 spicy chicken sandwiches
2 Big King burgers

$13
2500cals
100g protein

I ate it all in 7 minutes.. 😥

I dont think it personally matters as long as you are hitting all of your macros at the end of the day.

Meal timing is still important.

I wouldn't want to get all of my carbs at the end of the day or all of my protein in the beginning of the day.

I can't imagine your body will efficiently store your macros and use them as needed as opposed to timed feeding.

Much like with medicine, if they say take 1 pill twice a day, you shouldn't just take two pills for breakfast.

I was at America's Strongest man. Here's 4/5 events Brian Shaw did. Phone died before 5th event. I also got a picture with him.

What a badass. That guy is huge.

I got a pic with Kai Greene I'll post later. In his sweatshirt he doesn't look massive.

Hey FitnessGAF!

My glutes are extremely weak. I've been doing deadlifts and squats once a week (with other leg exercises) but while my hamstrings and quads are shattered after every exercise I rarely feel anything in my glutes. Can you please recommend exercises that isolate these muscles? I was reading up on glute activation; is there any merit to this, or is it just horseshit?

Thanks! :)

Glute ham raise, good mornings, Romanian deadlifts, pull through, kettle bell swings, glute bridges.

Do you have any good reports/journals on meal timing and frequency?

I typically follow IF and save a big meal with 60% of my carbs for dinner. Would be interesting to see more information though.

This might be kinda a strange question but does anyone feel wrong or guilty about looking better, losing the weight, etc? It has been such a major part of me. I feel weird about moving away from that person I used to be.

The reason I started working out again is because it helps me work through depression. It helps me love myself flaws and all. So to answer your question I will never feel guilty for choosing to better myself.

are there exercises that can be done on a commute? I have a 1hr train journey each way to work. I normally walk to and from the station and try to walk at lunch, but is there anything I can do while sitting/standing on the train to eg do some basic muscle toning?

I don't lift weights or do anything super active - I'm just starting up being more active with the walking in my new job so I want to expand that a little more if possible. Be gentle :)

I don't fell guilty about myself, but I do sometimes feel like I am exuding judgement on people who are out of shape, which makes me feel a little bad.

i hopped on the scale because i didn't want to look at it (haven't been on one in weeks). 217#.

secretly i've been thinking it's all muscle with a bit of fat but the ratio right now is so off. RIP.

Joined a charity sit-up challenge, aiming for minimum 10k by 12/31. I never specifically train abs so this is gonna be interesting. Had to order an ab mat since I already rubbed a spot on my ass raw during the first two days. :/

I must admit, I've become far more judgemental of people in shit shape to be honest. =/

Same here. If I can do it, anyone else can do it.

Same. Kind of seems hard to avoid feeling that way after changing so much myself. It's not like I'm disgusted by people, but when I see them my immediate reaction is to wonder why they're not taking better care of themselves. At the same time, I have to remember all the time I spent not taking care of myself too, and likely inspiring those same thoughts in other people. It's a strange thing.

I got a book of smoothie recipes and it lists ingredients in cups/tbsps/tsps. I'm not exactly sure how you measure a cup of kale or other leafy greens. Is there an agreed upon method or is everone simply eyeballing a cup of veggies?

Put the chopped kale in a measuring cup. That's what I do.
I think he means, do you pack it in or just put the loose leaves in there. A packed cup of kale is probably at least 3 times as much as unpacked. That or he is from the UK or other country that doesn't use cup as a measurement in which case a cup is slightly less than half a pint (about 4 tenths).

Yeah, thats what I mean. Normally, i wouldn't pack it down but when measuring brown sugar I do. With leafy greens its going to matter a lot more. I guess I'll just start trying different methods and see what works best.

Generally unless a recipe says packed then I would just very lightly pack the leaves in so that they fill the cup when they spring back.

Should be a lose cup unless the recipe species "packed."

Yes, same boat, and it's very weird. Initial disdain followed immediately by a sobering sensation.

Swan 1/2 mile straight today, then another two 1/4 sets, then a 1/8 mile set to hit 1800 meters. Shoulders are on fire >)

My second 24 hour event is this weekend. Rib still not fully healed... and I weigh too much... and I haven't prepped properly...

...this'll be interesting.

I did BBJ and lifted for about two months. My lifting suffered from it. I had to stop BBJ for family reasons.

Less than four weeks of cutting left for me; I was a bit loose with my dieting last week (especially on Sunday, damn music festival food) but it's time to finish strong with my Hawaii and the start of my bulk looming around the corner. Hyyyyype (for food).

Been training for almost 30 years. It cuts into my lifts so I keep it to 3 days hard training. I just eat more :p

I have someone snap naked pics if me and I'll look at them and promptly delete them. MOTIVATED.

Dont strain yourself, bud. Get that rib under control. The longer you push it the longer it will take to fully heal.

First week back on the bulk is going good. FOOD! FINALLY! Staying conservative with 3600 the first few weeks as I'm not a fan of throwing my glucose to the wind with sharp changes. From there I'll keep an eye on my numbers and adjust up up up.
