Flat Earthers plan incredible trip to Antarctica to reach ‘end of the world’

Too much Game of Thrones?

The “flat earthers” plan to travel to Antarctica by boat to find the frozen barrier they believe marks the edge of our world.

The supposed “ice wall” is said to be several hundred metres thick, towers 50 metres high and surrounds the entire planet.

“We don’t believe anything can fall off the edge because a big portion of the flat earth community believes that we’re in a dome, like a snow globe.

“So the sun, moon, and stars are all inside. It’s very high but all contained inside. So there’s no way to actually fall off of the earth.”

Let them keep walking. Meet them on the other side. Yell “I told you so” and then sail away and leave them stranded.

Has there ever been an effort to travel a complete circle around the earth longitudinally?

These guys are dumb but the idea is at least a little interesting.

I hope these flat earther’s don’t reproduce.

I don’t get why we continue to give flat earthers attention. They’re just like any other conspiracy theorists - nothing you say will change their beliefs, so let them be nuts like the people who believe in things like Bigfoot, the Loch Ness monster, Area 51, and the faked moon landing.

I could understand if someone actually thought that the earth is flat in medieval age but in 2019? 🤨 are these individuals just looking for attention or what.

Why go to Antartica? Just go to any direction until you find the edge. No need to deal with extreme cold and death.

They don’t see the earth as we do, they see all the continents we know as being in the center of a disc, and around the entire edge is Antarctica.

They are... weird.

I wish I could go along simply to push them over the edge and finally save us all the trouble.

You'll have to settle for mashing their faces into a gigantic pane of glass apparently.

That's actually a good initiative. However crazy your theory is, trying to confirm or refute it through an experiment is a reasonable scientific process. You actually had to wonder "if there is an edge of the world, why did nobody try to reach it ?"
The only question of course is if they'll be ready to draw conclusions from their experiment even if they don't match their beliefs...

The flat-earth community is like a little microcosm of the history of science in fast-forward: at first, a bunch of people made random shit up out of thin air to try to explain the nature of reality, and if it was interesting enough, it stuck. Gullible followers with nothing better to do gathered around. As tools and instruments were developed, and as bright people were born into civilization here and there throughout the years, those earlier ideas were probed, refined, and some thrown out--at first with great resistance from the keepers of the tales (stake burnings etc), but then grudgingly allowed.

Flat-earthers are somewhere around their own personal 500 BC right now? If they're progressing at a rate of like 200 FE (flat earther) years for each one of our normal earth years, I fully expect them to develop interstellar travel, nuclear fusion, and to turn into Esthar by our year 2035. Then we invade and steal their shit. Go, little microcosm!

There's a Lovecraft story in this somewhere.

An expedition to the furthest reaches of the Antarctic...searching for the hidden truth....a group of believers plunged into the unknown....they went looking for the edge of the world...

...and found it.

In the Flat Earth Model any direction leads to Antartica.

What if on the other side of the wall there's a parallel flat earth?
The plot thickens...

What's funny about flat earthers is that they refuse any evidence they're shown to contradict their assumption.

So even if a group of flat earthers went on a voyage like this and accidentally proved the Earth is not flat, then the rest of the flat earthers would say that the group doctored the footage. They'd look at edits and cuts and create a theory about how it was faked.

You'd think there'd be enough evidence already to not need to take a trip.

For many conspiracies, no amount of evidence will dissuade the believers. They become self-sustaining micro cultures / entities.

This trip will likely turn into itsfuckingnothing.gif but if the S.S. FE does make it to Antarctica, it'll be interesting to see what happens when an unstoppable force (i.e. FE dogma) meets an immovable object (reality).

Personally l, I'm more interested in seeing if they can even make it that far south without intervention from the powers that be. There's a conspiracy, world powers restrict non-govt expeditions to Antarctica because there's something there the outside world isn't meant to see.
