The best part of GW2 is that, no, you don't. You don't take anything away from other players when you gather materials, or kill creatures, or do quests. In fact, many of the events require that players band together loosely to complete an event. You don't need to physically group up. You can simply be in the same area, work on the same objective, and you'll all be rewarded accordingly.

You can join whenever, leave whenever, and what you do is not at the whim of the larger group.

I rarely group up unless I do a dungeon (which are instanced areas tuned for 5 players). Otherwise I just wander around, and when I see an event that interests me, I join in. There's no reason not to, after all.

From the gaming side. Sounds cool.

You can do everything solo apart from dungeons. Queueing for WvWvW or sPvP will obviously require you to be social and shit (THE HORROR!) but if you just want to level and explore, can be done 100% solo.

Well no because its a MMO. You wouldn't be able to do the area events by yourself.

The great thing about the game is I've been able to do quite a few events, like protect this person, take back this castle from the enemy, kill this high level enemy without actually either;

Actively looking for the event, I've just stumbled across it.
Actively looking for a group, like a healer, a tank a DPS etc.
or actually communicating with the other players. This maybe because I'm relatively low level at the moment (10).

It's a brilliant game in my eyes. The points of interest and vistas on the map which give you XP and stuff actually make you want to explore the world. I'd highly recommend it.

(This was about Suikoden) - 3 was indeed a beautiful RPG. You will love 5 - oddly enough, it doesn't visually look as good as 4 (huh...) but the game is quite excellent! Best suikoden story IMO.

Yeah. At first I wasn't that excited because Renaissance and Palladian Architecture is my least favorite of them all. However, seeing them in person is just bloody mind blowing.
