If we're just looking to sign world class players, our targets are exceptionally limited.

Coleman's probably the second or third best in the league, and the other two (Azpilicueta for sure, Zabaleta if you're a fan) are unavailable.

If you want to go outside the league, there's some very good right backs that you probably could get for cheaper, but they won't be world class. Unless you mean potential for world class, but nothing immediately springs to mind.

Any player we buy from the Premier League will be overpriced. That just has to be accepted, I think.

He's not worth that sort of money but would still be a good addition to our squad regardless.

Coleman is really good offensively but he can be suspect when on the back foot. Everton won't let him go for cheap, either. Seems a difficult and not entirely sensible transfer.

If you want to see an even more ill-advised transfer try letting your one defensive midfielder leave in January. Absolutely crackers.

Coleman is hella over rated.

Clyne's had a better season, but Coleman's been consistently very good for a few years now.

Can't think of anyone off the top of my head I think is available and good value that's much better than Rafael, anyway.

Janmaat's for sale, ManUGaf. He'd be a solid squad player for LVG at RB. #IAMTK

He's not really but he deserves better than when Emile Heskey takes charge at Newcastle.

Not about signing a world class player for every position - just making smart moves.

Coleman is good, absolutely. But when you spend the kind of money it would take, you need a sure thing.

Anyway, let's see what the story is.

Coleman is the sort of player that isn't guaranteed to reach the same level playing for a club like Manchester United.

Everton suits him perfectly.

I say we send Falcao back, sign Lacazette. He's gonna be gud.

Help me to understand.

Why does he want to leave now he's back in the team?

This is fair enough.

I can't really think who is available in that position though. We need someone. You need someone.

Help me out here Arn.

Help me to understand.

Why does he want to leave now he's back in the team?
I think ultimately he knows that he isn't in Brendan's long term thinking.

Lucas is great, but he's without a doubt replaceable. And he's exceptionally limited. Should he arrive in the final third he's absolutely pants. I think Brendan wants a DM that's versatile enough to contribute towards counter attacks, with an overall wider skill set.

Makes sense on paper, however:

a) I'd be surprised if we actually went and bought said replacement now

b) I wouldn't trust our transfer committee to spend the money

In theory I like the idea of Emre Can pushing forwards into Lucas' position, but when he's been so calming and effectual as one of a defensive three it makes me nervous and seems counterproductive.

As I say, buy someone like Bender and I wouldn't give a shit.

This is fair enough.

I don't really agree we need anyone in that position currently. We have Rafa and Valencia who are more than adequate atm in the short term. I'd rather buy a backup LB/LWB tbh.

Meanwhile we continue to play Evans/Jones/Smalling at CB. We need someone to replace the dross at CB.

Its been a very good day for us, with us closing the gap on West Ham and Spurs, and expanding it over Swansea. But I fucking wish that had gone in.

You see how premature that talk of Brendan getting sacked was now?

Guy's a fool but he's a good coach. Football's so reactionary :lol

tbf most of the talk was 'if we carry on like this I'm afraid he'll be sacked.' Only the knobends wanted him out there and then.

Twitter rumours that Lucas is heading to Internazionale. He's been very good lately but he can be upgraded, especially with someone with better physical or creative attributes. Have to assume we have a transfer lined up for us to be getting rid of Lucas. Knowing the competence of our management though…

Ridiculous move, especially if its a loan without a guaranteed transfer at the end. We need that guarantee so we can buy a replacement, and I think it likely that said replacement would be worse than him, for the next 5 months anyway. He's playing every game so I have no idea whatsoever why he wants to leave midseason, or why we want to get rid. Unless they've given us an offer we can't refuse when they buy him.

Who is available for £8m, and would definitely end up better than him?

YES PALACE

Kevin Großkreutz seems like a good gamble as RB at the moment. He lost a lot of credit this season and I could see us agreeing to sell him for a low fee, if he wants to leave. But that said, I'm not really sure he'll be anything more than decent.

Good to see Sakho's back in favour at least. Far better than Lovren, even if he does kick a ball like Forrest Gump.
I love Brendan.

You know it. I know it. Everyone here knows it.

I will not gloss over the fact that Lovren is a fucking horrendous, abhorrent, braindead signing. Sakho is miles better in every single way, so to sanction such an expensive transfer to sign a fraction of the player is disgusting.

And his lack of faith in Sakho has been similarly frustrating. Whether he's seeing something he doesn't like in training, or it's something to do with his personality, I don't know. But he's been consistently class on the pitch when given the chance.

Isn't it suppose to be that if you hit a 50% success rate in your transfers, you have done very well?

I think we have seen enough to say that these players are good/will be good signings:

Can - success
Markovic - success
Lallana - success
Moreno - success
Manquillo- success

These are the failed:

Lovren, Balo, Lambert.

In that sense we have had quite a good window. On the other hand, the players that failed are the ones that we especially needed to be successful.

I also think it it will be stupid to let Lucas go in this window if we don't bring in a replacement. We need at least one midfielder that thinks defensively. Can is not really that. He is much more of a box-to-box player really.

I think it's too early to call any of them a success, in the same way it's too early to call them failures. Most of them have had as many bad games as they've had good games.

Also you said Markovic twice.

Can - success
Markovic - success Debatable
Lallana - success Debatable
Moreno - success Debatable
Markovic - success Debatable x2

These are the failed: I agree.

Looking where we are at in the table, we failed.

meant Manquillo.

By success I mean that they have been good, or we have seen signs that they will develop into good signings.

Looking where we are at in the table, we failed.

That's I think is mainly due to the three that we really needed to be successful, and hit the ground running, has been as disaster.

What do we learn here?

Buying "proven" epl quality players isn't always the answer. Gotta buy from the bundeslolga mate.

Anyone here seen '71? The film with Jack O'Connell? It looks pretty interesting. Although I've seen some comments from Irish people that it's not really historically correct. With English people responding they're butthurt

The thing is we just keep buying young players so they're either inconsistent or lots of obvious potential.

Whoever replaces Lucas, either now or in the summer, needs to be experienced enough to come in and not be daunted.

Emre Can is enough potential in that position. I want a big, tall lad.

Will add to list.

Thanks bla.

I don't think we share a musical taste, but I might as well recommend Habibi from Habibi. Not every song is perfect, but there's some nice ones (e.g. Wrong To The Right People).
It should be on Spotify, might be difficult to find on Youtube though.

You're welcome my friend. It was actually my fav K-Pop Album last year. It's not that pop-ish tho. So don't be afraid.

Kpop?!

I'll still listen to it but yeah I didn't expect that, lol.

Same. We really should have got Song on loan.

how many seasons time do you think we will finally see Rossiter get properly introduced into the first team squad?
