Forget about Cuphead, when the hell is Below coming out?

That's so disappointing. There are a lot of action platformers out there where the boss fights are by far the most interesting parts of the game and the platforming is kinda boring (I'm thinking of Mega Man Zero, Shovel Knight, etc). I think I would have liked a game that cut out the platforming and was just intense boss fights.

I was right though. vvv

What Skikkiks quoted from the article from the Cuphead team, "Why has Cuphead been delayed multiple times? Has the scope changed?

No one likes delays, we get it. Honestly, we don’t like them either. But, sometimes they are a necessary evil.

We had an initial “dream scope” planned for Cuphead. This original plan even included platforming levels. However, since we had humble beginnings as a 3-person team it was obvious that we had to shoot for something a little more realistic. Our intention was to release a very small game, with only bosses, in the hope that we could build a fan base and look at expanding the game down the road.

To our surprise we received a ton of love from the gaming and art communities and decided it was time to up the ante. We quit our jobs, maxed out every loan possible, and partnered with Microsoft. This allowed us to expand the team and produce a larger game. As time passed, we decided to just GO FOR IT and bring back most of our original “dream scope”. Even with a larger team, the final scope of the game is a ton of work. The idea of rushing or cutting corners just to launch is not in our vocabulary – our goal is to release a game we are truly proud of."

Thank you for clearing that up! I knew I wasn't crazy! I was actually just about to post this but I checked right before I pressed submit lol.

.

proof please.

I already provided the evidence on the last page, see below.

I don't see what the problem is. Why you guys gotta do all that manual work when you could get similar results 10x faster?

Can't even tell the difference really.

I heard that the reason Below is taking so long to get out the door is that all of the terrain and building destruction in the game will be done in the cloud, but we have no way of knowing because the powerful cloud lobby keeps blocking my research

Hey all,

Quick notes:

• Yes, we're still in full production on the game. We've never stopped. It isn't cancelled.
• When we delayed again, we decided to do what we felt was the right thing, and stop promoting the game until we have a concrete release date that we can share. No more expected dates, just one release date.
• Our game collab with Cartoon Network has no impact on Below. We've always had 2 full teams at Capy. There's 24 people here, split between the two.

Despite all this, we totally understand that people have lost confidence in the game coming out. It's been a long-ass time and a bunch of delays. But from our POV, we gotta do what we gotta do to make sure we're making something we're happy with. And trust me, no one wants to get this game out more than us :)

We hope that when we announce the release date, or when it releases, or at some other point after that, you'll give the game a shot.

If anyone has questions, I'm around.
Will there be a Mac version and is that going to be released at the same time as the PC version on Steam?

you should forget about cuphead
its using a visual style that is trivially easy to fake and emulate with vector graphics filters and shaders so they're obviously doing it stupidly and manually

Yes, we all know cheap fakery always comes out just as good as doing things by hand.

When I saw Below I actually first thought of Deep Down.

LOL let's hope it doesn't stick to closely to Deep Down. Hurry up CAPY. You need to finish this up so we can get sequels to M&M: Clash of Heroes and Critter Crunch. Out of an already stellar catalog, those have been your best output IMO

Those videos didn't convince me it's fun? but it looks nice. Will wait for reviews I guess

edit: lol @ 31:40 in the second video. What I was thinking

Looks stylish, but graphics look too small. Also, when I see videos I see lots of walking around. Not really a lot to do.

I just think of it like Dark Souls meets Hyper Light Drifter, looks pretty good to me and yeah there's combat exploration discovery everything.

It's not small if you view it fullscreen, standard top down view, maybe a bit higher than usual but things are clearly visible.

I like the bits and pieces we've been shown, hopefully the full adventure delivers in longer gameplay sessions :)

lol OP never delivered?

Cuphead was so amazing. i was so happy with that game. they could have easily skimped out, hand-drawn some parts and use motion graphics for others, but they went all-in, and it's extra cool for that. all the bosses have multiple forms, all the forms have unique art, and somehow the style is always consistent. there is never anything that doesn't look like it belong in an old cartoon, and there are a LOT of levels. it's wonderful. the sound design is great too! it feels like i am playing a fantasy arcade game that should have come out in 1993 or something.

Below, judging by that video above, is very hard to see. a huge black field with a tiny character. gimme Cuphead's large arcadey characters any day.

I've had this game preordered since before I could walk...

However amazon UK still has the placeholder price of £54.99 haha...

I REALLY hope this gets corrected soon and they reveal the proper price lol
