Former Xbox Boss Says He Knew Sony's Killzone 2 E3 Showcase Was BS

Come On What GIF by MOODMAN

Nobody interpreted it that way, in fact there's nothing to "interpet", he's talking about the wrong trailer in comparing it to retail.
He linked the 07 trailer and said wasn't that far off from the 05 trailer. Is that a problem? It's not like he said it was the 05 trailer, like it seems you are suggesting.

Even Eight days was shown at Sony E3 with" gameplay" etc then canceled, so...it didn't exist neither deep down, or Agent..
Deep Down was playable at 720p/60fps with 4 player co-op running on the Panta Rhei engine on a PS4 at the 2013 Tokyo Games Show and was reportedly "finished" by the time Capcom canned the game in 2015, so it very much did exist.

There are also several vertical slices of Eight Days real gameplay out there, and it looked stunning for a prototype, with hints of Uncharted or Max Payne 3 levels of fidelity in them.

Agent wasn't a Sony game, as neither was Deep Down.

But even then, some of the worst offenders of graphics downgrades out there -- The Division, Rainbow Six Siege -- actually were fully playable at those levels of fidelity during development builds -- Rainbow Six was playable at E3 2014 with the very visuals from its announcement trailer and The Division looked like the E3 2013 and 2014 videos behind the scenes during early playtesting sessions, before it had it's technological scope scaled down in order to fit on the consoles.

Damn I didn't know that. Wonder why they canned it if it was basically done? The reveal for it was really cool and I was definitely looking forward to it.

That's why i'm yes/no on it.
It was a ton of hype created by games press and reddit etc. But at the same time I would think they would have to give Sony some update reports as it was Sony pushing it at full steam.
So I don't give Sony full blame on it. But I do think they have a small level of being accountable. Even if it was for just turning a blind eye to the development.

I don't remember the Motorstorm adds. I enjoyed the game but it wasn't AAA level or anything.
Can't find it, but there was a trailer showing cars and bikes racing and getting mud and particles everywhere, it was crazy to think a game would do something like that in 05/06

I went to play Killzone 2 in a closed event in London a few weeks/months after that E3 trailer.. and let me tell you.. the gameplay held up extraordinarily well.

That game was the first release that cemented Sony being 100% back in the game with regards to first play releases. The onslaught on the competition begun from Feb 2009 and didn't stop for 2 generations straight.

It took em a bit to get going that gen, but when they did they went HARD.
Tools of Destruction, Uncharted, KZ2….man. I ate good with those.

I never saw this until late generation when Wii U was already out... I laughed so hard at this like "did people really believed this was on a PS3?"

Nintendo did it twice. I love it when some people pretend they forgot.

I'd give you BOTW first teaser out of desperation for the Wii U situation, but the first Zelda tech demo was just that, a tech demo, they never sold it as a "target rendering" or "in-game cutscenes" or gameplay, they just showed us how much they could push Wii U graphically and was it

Sony drank a lot of bullshit Kool aid back then.

Killzone 2 was bullshit, though the finished product looked impressive.
Motorstorm E3 2005 was even more ridiculous, probably PS5 levels of fidelity.
White Knight Chronicles TGS 06 looked ridiculous for a JRPG. I would say PS4 levels of fidelity.

A lot of haters gloss over the fact that the actual game was a visual marvel and the reason that GG turned into the behemoth top tier studio they are now.

It wasn't just the visuals, the friggin ragdoll physics that we haven't seen in even 2 generations since, the outstanding implementation of class abilities, the ability to go on the KZ2 website and re-watch a match you played (it would show the players as dots and track your movements), etc.

Game was ahead of its time and had features that people wish existed today.

Somethings actually looked better in the retail version though. They shouldn't have BSed the trailer but it wasn't a bad looking game at all in its final form.

Everybody's Golf 5 - July 26, 2007
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction - October 23, 2007
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - November 19, 2007
LittleBigPlanet - October 27, 2008 (95/100 Metacritic)
Demon's Souls - February 5, 2009

All before Killzone 2.

It was pure bullshit and iirc started the trend of totally fake vertical slices... however ironically KZ2 was probably the game whose final product was closest to the bullshit trailer. Look at GRAW or Motorstorm for examples of totally fake shit that never even got close to what they were trying to pull...

Replayed it on my ps3 about a year or two ago. The game's atmosphere is something else. The input lag, heavy feel, movement, in that infested , gritty, oppressive, polluted thick, oozing , poisonous cloud planet is the best thing about it.

I remember my friends being absolutely blown away by it and I had to crush their dreams saying it was most likely fake because of the fluid dynamics and frame rate; good times.
I miss being fooled like this

This days we all know that the witcher 4 presentation is pure BS. Inocence is lost

The deep down gameplay they showed at TGS looked nothing like the trailer

This is in-game , But digital foundry confirmed there was a downgrade from 2014.

DF john

So there was a downgrade ?

yes, my screenshot is from the game. I only flipped 180 to trick you and (failed)

This is from the trailer. Yours is weirdly too bright and oversharpened.

Not the reveal lol, I played the game. It's an obvious downgrade, look at the fly and the water and the close up in the reveal. They tried hard to match but there is a clear gulf
of course there is. I wanted to see if I would fool you.
That said, uc4 still looks incredibly good. I love that game

It turned out great at the end, even if it didn't meet the cgi trailer. So what is this about? Crying about an almost 2 decades old game just to feel better about the current situation on the greener side or what lol
Right on. Furthermore, the MP map design was incredible. Lighting, physics, gameplay was well ahead of Gears.
