Forspoken has been delayed to January 24, 2023

Did you really just call a black girl "colored"?....wow

"Strategic decision" = LOL ain't nobody stupid enough to launch a single player game less than a month away from God of War

I'm actually curious about this title on a technical level because it's supposed to be the first title to use DirectStorage. It should be the first ever game on PC with <3s loading times, and that's pretty neat.

I'm still looking forward to this but all these delays are casting some doubts. This also makes me worried about the other SE games that have a 2023 release window.
From the press release it sounds like they spoke to Sony about it and pushed it back. Especially considering their own releases during the same period and then God of War too.

Seems to be a strategic delay.
Square Enix is also releasing two games this fall.
In late January people will want something new to play and this will be in a perfect timing position, assuming it delivers clearly.

Not a single one, Even the Series X/S first party games are not using Direct Storage at the moment:

We can clearly see Horizon is using the same old legacy supported Win 32 API even on consoles.

Exactly.
Not sure the holdup?
Seems DS and UE5 are coming out the gate slowly.

Smart decision...Oct-Nov-Dec will be stacked, and the PS players will have more than enough titles to toy with. January will be a more "vacant" month, imo, and Forspoken could benefit both from having less competition, and being tweaked and worked on for a longer period. I suspect that Sony had something to do with the delay as well, which is understandable, given how tightly their respective pipelines are integrated...
Now, whether Forspoken will be good/great is something that I can't in good faith bet on; The gameplay segments/trailers have not impressed me thus far...
Hoping for the best!

The Microsoft first party developers had no interest in making two versions. One that supported Direct Storage IO on consoles and a Win 32 IO version for PC. Like most developers they will just make it compatible for the weakest link and leave it at that. This goes for Halo Infinite and Horizon 5. Either that or Direct Storage simply isn't ready to be used on consoles neither regardless of Microsoft's boasting about Velocity Architecture upon the consoles release.

I was excited for this when they claimed it was coming out in September...then delayed to October...and now January 2023. So I'm glad I took it off my wishlist.

"The following media contains potentially sensitive content"

I know there were people looking forward to this game, but jeez. Hope no one gets PTSD over this announcement.

It being open world, makes it a good candidate for receiving as many polishing efforts as possible, I think.
Oh, absolutely. Not saying they won't use the time to polish the game, but since I can't say I heard months ago that the game was postponed for a big release in late 2022 because otherwise the mods will remove my post, I'm going to say that it's probably why it got delayed.

But also you can't polish a turd. 3 months don't make a ton of difference. We'll see, it looks interesting.

We get God of War and this one is the one getting delayed...i'll live.

edit: Just realized Sony is getting Forspoken and FFXVI the same year, with FFVII Rebirth following right after in 2024. And around that time, Spider-Man 2, Factions somewhere in here, god knows how many other games. The future is looking good for 2013/2014!
FFXVI will get delayed into 2024 and FFVII Rebirth into 2025. You new to Square Enix style of business?

It needed the delay tbh, releasing this year would kill its sales besides, anything they've shown so far (that I've seen anyway) looked remarkedly unpolished and just...meh overall.

I'm going to start referring to white people as uncolored people. I'll still call black people black people, but I like to take the road less traveled.

Also, this game looks cool enough, but it has "pretty turd capitalizing on what Japanese people think is relevant social politics in the west," and "Jesus Christ, we need to make some kind of money on FFXV's ridiculous engine or it's hari Kari time," -the game....written all over it.

Will still probably buy it.

Three years from now.

For $20.

In the "Strong black women in gaming," showcase.

Gaf is so extra about race

Gaf is so extra about race

It doesn't really matter much to me, either way. Most, if not all of my issues regarding it are down to scummy corporate techniques designed to pull on certain demographics without actually doing the leg work to integrate their choices in a narratively meaningful way, or the need to diversify existing narratives and characters instead of creating new ones. (I.e. a gay Superman, a lesbian Batman, a black He Man, a crippled Link, whatever) It's very easy to see when it's done haphazardly, competently, gracefully, or clumsily.

Forspoken seems to have elements of pandering to a specific demographic, and unfortunately for Square, I think for better or worse, it's gonna be the same group of people playing as always. I don't think the storyline is going to be bogged down in awkward social politics, though.

Was the original release date near GOW? It is odd that they would have originally released around the time of STARFIELD and weren't concerned about that? It is honestly hard to believe that this is due to GOW announcing this morning; maybe it helped with the decision to go ahead and just delay.

. . .name one country with the internet, working toilets and a sports team that isn't soccer that uses "colored people" to refer to non-white citizens.

I just watched the story trailer from E3 and. . .where are you getting ANY of this? This game looks like - for better or worse - a "bog-standard fish out of water" that just so happens to have a Black-American teen runaway from an all-gal gang (I'm guessing) as its lead. Is that the pandering? That it doesn't star a protagonist with "egg-shall white" pigment so it must be virtue signaling?

Shit game anyways. Good. Less garbage for October.

. . .bet you'd still accept an invite to preview the game.

I'm just going on gut feeling. I obviously have nothing to validate the claim, but Square is traditionally kind of tone deaf and five years behind. I'd be happy to be incorrect, don't get me wrong.

Look at the essay you just wrote that has nothing to do with Forspoken. Tell me what about Forspoken is pandering in regards to race?

She's from NY and is puerto rican, the buck stops there bruh. It's a completely new and original character. You can dislike her or the game for whatever reason but bringing up race for this makes NO sense for this
