Fortnite currently has 3,000,000 concurrent users playing, causing matchmaking issues and queues

Someone in his whatsapp list has just got a unrelated message about Fortnite.

Remind me never to eat a burger you made if you are sticking your 'pal' in them.

Dont listen to this neaderthal when grilling, youll end up with swineflu. The thumb tendersness scale is not for burgers, its crabcakes

The beauty of this game is that it doesn't have a boundary. Everyone can get it in to the game and play it for free.

Epic did the right thing releasing it everywhere. Mobile, console and PC. More players, more money, more engagement.

I almost re-downloaded this today, and I have absolutely no idea why.

Rocket Racing was actually fun when it launched. Curious to see how it has changed/improved.

The game feels alien now. I downloaded for my little brother, and the amount of content it has is crazy. So many game modes and content.

It's wild, so far I think I enjoyed the last season a lot more. It just felt a lot fuller, like it had a lot more stuff going on for it. This feels pretty lacking so far in comparison, but it IS Marvel themed. So, that alone is gonna bring folks as it always does.

Is the fortnite part even the main draw anymore? Or are people playing the variations?

I think it is for some definitely. There's still a ton of user created content that people regularly enjoy. But I think a LOT of players jump back in to check out the latest seasons in Battle Royale/Zero Build just to see all the new content and everything.

Battle Royal still gets 90+ percent of the overall players. Lego Fortnite averages around 50k players CCU. Fortnite Festival averages around 20 CCU. Then they have a whole bunch of Roblox esque weird modes that average 5k CCU and under.

Literally the most important game of all time. A pure revelation.
Lol calm down.

Pong, Space Invaders, Super Mario Bros, Tetris, Ocarina of Time, Half-Life, GTA III, Guitar Hero, Wii Sports, Skyrim, Modern Warfare 2 and Minecraft are all more important than Fortnite.

You could make the point looking at the state of the current industry and how publishers have ruined the medium by chasing it that Fortnite has been one of the most damaging games ever released.

Whooptie doo. It's like being shocked that pokemon go has a ton of players still after a decade, or wow in it's heyday.

Anything free2play where "influencers" are involved and the teen/kid market jumps on board will have huge numbers. Just like mcDonald's and Drake/cardiB/meegan da stallion. Doesn't make the games good at all and in some cases are crap, but peer pressure, marketing and free to play will bring in tons of kids.

Also where is Men in Boxes to evangelize over the power of gaas?

Your claims aren't crazy by any means. All the games you listed were integral in the development of the early part of the medium. However, I think we're transitioning out of the first phase of gaming into an entirely new phase. That monumental metamorphosis was triggered by Fortnite / PUBG. I tend to view that as more important.

The transition has been happening for 7 years now

Multiplayer isn't an evolution. It's just a variation. An inferior one at that

Absolutely.

Phase 1 was...40 or so years?

Transitioning to phase 2 can't happen overnight. Games now take 5 - 7 years to make. The slower we iterate the slower we change.

The knowledge base Epic has accrued over the last 7 years means they've basically become The Great Library of Alexandria. Gaming will flourish from it's veins.

That's insane and impressive . Not a fan of the game personally but, yeah that an impressive number.

Wish I knew how to make a successful gaas game. I'd sell it to whoever, when at its peak, buy a yacht and call it a day 😅😅

I kind of agree with this. The part about the transitioning into a new phase. I'd also add that it's being somewhat driven by gen Z and probably soon gen alpha's gaming habits.

They don't care about consoles

They don't care to build a PC

They don't have the attention span to play a grind fest RPG, or some 100 hour open world single player game. Infact they barely play games rhat don't have a social aspect…

They don't care about owning games….to youngers it's about as 'old fashioned' as their parent CD, vynil and DVD collections. They also don't care for physical media.

Come to think of it I can see why so many companies in the gaming biz will struggle with that transition to that next phase. Some companies will hold on to the old mode and end up suffering for it. You have to go where the market is going. Thats how you make money and survive. I'd imagine there will be a lot more closures and mergers before this decade is done.

This, I feel, is objectively wrong.

They don't have the attention span to play a grind fest RPG but they DO have the attention span to play Fortnite for 3,275 hours and train in 1v1 for hundreds of hours to get better at build battling? How does that compute?

Fortnite is the RPG if you look at it using a slightly wider sense.
