Fortnite currently has 3,000,000 concurrent users playing, causing matchmaking issues and queues

This, I feel, is objectively wrong.

They don't have the attention span to play a grind fest RPG but they DO have the attention span to play Fortnite for 3,275 hours and train in 1v1 for hundreds of hours to get better at build battling? How does that compute?

Fortnite is the RPG if you look at it using a slightly wider sense.

I would say you need a bigger attention span for an 100h text heavy rpg than to play fortnite for 3k hours.

Absolutely.

Phase 1 was...40 or so years?

Transitioning to phase 2 can't happen overnight. Games now take 5 - 7 years to make. The slower we iterate the slower we change.

The knowledge base Epic has accrued over the last 7 years means they've basically become The Great Library of Alexandria. Gaming will flourish from it's veins.
Uh huh. Call me when we've fully transitioned over.

Lol whut? It requires far more attention playing any PvP game than playing a text heavy singleplayer game.

Sustained Focus vs. Repeated Engagement: The text-heavy game demands sustained focus for long periods, which can be mentally exhausting. This kind of focus is akin to reading a lengthy, complex book or studying for an exam. In contrast, a multiplayer game often involves repeated engagement with shorter, intense focus periods, which can be more refreshing or addictive, allowing players to play for hundreds of hours over time without feeling the same kind of mental fatigue.

I don't think we understand attention span the same way.

It's amazing after such a long time it's still pulling those numbers literally impossible for gaas games especially now to keep people interested for long.
Fortnite is probably the og of gaas and a blueprint of successfull gaas which is impossible these days

I suppose we might understand it differently.

With text-heavy games, you can skim through texts and take breaks repeatedly, as you aren't required to stare at your screen constantly.

Battle Royal still gets 90+ percent of the overall players. Lego Fortnite averages around 50k players CCU. Fortnite Festival averages around 20 CCU. Then they have a whole bunch of Roblox esque weird modes that average 5k CCU and under.
There are Fall Guys maps too, Im playing them a lot.

I don't know. The words focus and attention are pretty clearly defined.

I was watching a kid play Minecraft on a plane a few months ago. He spent an hour building this weird lava trap outside of a castle. It required way more vision, foresight, and creativity than anything I was playing at his age.

Games are getting more demanding, not less.

pubg technically did it before fortnite, but fortnite did it bigger and better

You can play most mp games in short bursts. Mp are alot easier to consume its the reason they are more successful.

Explain it to me how playing mp games like fortnite in short bursts is more demanding than stuff like planescape torment as far as attention span goes. I know both sides really well and playing an hard text heavy rpg is alot harder to me. So explain it to me!

The stuff you say about minecraft is also needed in a CRPG for example. The only real thing you need for minecraft is being creative.

Dunno why this seasons so popular this shit is so ass.. Just bring back the old map and none of these stupid gimmck shit that no one likes

Why does it take 30 seconds to get into the game for me then?

Captain America shield is busted btw.
definitely busted. Even more so if you add the war machine autoturrent in your inventory slot. But it's been a fun season so far.
Is the fortnite part even the main draw anymore? Or are people playing the variations?
Creative maps, LEGO, festival(guitar hero like game) and rocket racing. Personally love festival.

Impressive

I only played the 50 versus 50 mode a couple of years back. Had a couple of fun hours with it.

My interest in BR's has dried up a long time ago fortunately

Crazy how much steam this game still has. I think I last played it when they added the big hammer that lets you bounce around the map after they did a major gfx upgrade can't remember what the update was called.

Current season is fun but it's over if you come across someone early with the war machine weapons or cap shield. I've abused it all myself to good effect. Fun stuff.

I feel like they made all of the same mistakes they made last season with just broken AF items that are exrtemely difficult to counter.
Mind you it's FUN.. like a LOT of fun.. but the Cap America shield and Dr. Doom Gauntlets with either have to be massively nerfed or removed altogether to avoid another mass exodus of pro players.

That said.. as far as weapons go.. I love ALL of the new weapons.. it feels very balanced honestly.. only mythic items busting that balance.

Good problem to have. I've finally stepped away from Fortnite. And probably all competitive multiplayer. Just too much of a time commitment to keep up.
