Can I get this resized and with a transparent background? Maybe make the details more visible in the resized image? Are there any guides out there for how to do these things yourself, particularly how to make transparent backgrounds?

Just read up on transparency in whatever app you like to use. In GIMP, you need to use Layer...Transparency...Add Alpha Channel. Then just select the background somehow and delete it.

Thanks! I actually did that in GIMP but it messes up some other colors and I couldn't get any selection markers to work with transparency.

Adding the transparency layer won't affect any of the colours. Perhaps you tried colour to transparency?

Oh, I forgot to mention that you need to save as .gif or .png. Jpeg doesn't support transparency.

I'm not sure what you mean about the tentacles... If you mean to try to draw in the individual tentacles of the mouth, then sorry, I'm not artistic enough for that. Here's the rest of what you asked for with various parts transparent:

Edit: Dang, I'm on a light grey post, so the transparency isn't obvious. Left is with eyes transparent and white tentacles. Middle has white eyes and tentacles. Right has transparent eyes and tentacles.

Hmm maybe Clipper can help me out here. I'm having a weird problem when trying to save the large version. It looks fine on my computer (I've removed the background and made it transparent AND erased the signature part in the picture) but when I upload it to imgur it reverts it back to the original picture. I've saved it as a png and do everything I normally do. I don't know why it works for the little avatar version I made but not for the big version.

Hey guys, after flipping through the Metal Gear solid 4 art book one more time I just realized that there is some golden avatar material in here. If someone else has it maybe we can make some that are transparent and only show Shinkawa's brush strokes. If not I might be able to start posting cut-outs from pages that we can work with.

(for the curious: the girl is Bethany Cosentino from the band Best Coast)
