Forza,Conker impressions from Holiday OXM disc

Thanks for the video Blimblim!

At around 11 minutes in, you were supposed to do the "Helicoptery Tail Thing" to hover over those lasers on the ground. To do that, press and hold the jump button while in mid air (basically press the jump button twice.) You can crouch too, but I don't know the button since I didn't get to play the demo yet...

anyway thanks again :) Conker really looks great. I can not wait for this title.

Thanks ! Like I said before I really suck at platforming games so I really did not look too much for stuff like that. I guess crouching must be the left trigger (only one I did not try).

Actually, crouching is the right-trigger blimblim... :)
Yeah, I just saw this too. But it's also how you shoot, so how do you do it ? I'm at work so I can't try anything right now.

You can only crouch when you don't have your gun out, so there's no interference with shooting.

The whole demo seemed pretty bad to me. A kinda cheap trial-and-error beginning, followed by some clunky and unimaginative 3rd person shooting down serveral sets of identical corridors. I never much cared for the humor either. Bleh. Do not play if you are just coming off of Halo 2 or Half Life 2.

It looks as thought they are trying to position the game as an ultra bloody shooter, rather than a multi-genre platformer/action game. I hope they don't remove any of the stuff that was less gun-oriented.

I didn't like the Conker demo for the same reasons as border (trying to jump over lasers especially sucked,) but I just wanted to say that the Metal Wolf Chaos demo freaking kicks ass. If they could bring it stateside with Live support, I would buy it.

Is this issue on newsstands yet? I went to Barnes & Noble the other day and they only had the December issue (with Halo 2 review and PoP/DoAU demos).

Just tried this disc out. The Conker demo is freaking gorgeous. Definitely the most impressive looking game I've seen in quite a while. Didn't have any problems with the shooting or lasers, but then again I've played through N64 Conker several times. Rare should just bump up the right analog's sensitivity, and then it would be perfect.

I hope MS pushed the hell out of Conker so the game stays out of the bargain bins this time.

It was also lame that you can't crouch when you're in firing mode. I would think that when surrounded by enemies, that's the time you would most want to be able to duck down and hide behind something.

Is it just me, or did Rare seriously lower the difficulty of Conker by putting chocolate every five steps? I don't remember the chocolate being NEARLY that frequent in the original.

And my god, they overexaggerate on the blood squirting almost as much as a Mortal Kombat game. :lol

but it looks great. A nice remake, it looks like.

Wow! Just 1 word. Wow! I'm sorry to say but after playing 3 hours of the Forza Demo, that's all I can say. So I'll give you the look I have on Forza Vs. Gran Turismo 3.

1st off. They don't even compare. Forza knocks it off in A.I., simulation, and details.

A.I.-These AI make GT3's look like dumbies. They are incredibly smart, and act like a real person learning from your every move. If you cut them off, they will just wheel around you. Coming back on to the track? Going around you. Unlike GT3s where you'll be smacked head, these racers move and go by. They take different lines every time, and change speeds every lap through the same corner.

Graphics-So it's not real like GT4. But GT3s are quite better. Forza's though seem to be plain racer friendly. People who love racing games, and don't care whether its sim or not will love Forza's. Quite a nice upgrade from PGR2, I went ahead and compared Forza's 360 Modena to PGR2's. PGR2's handle nothing like Forza's. This was how I could tell Forza was simulating racing a 360 Modena. They handled nowhere near the same, and of course, Forza's felt much more driving like.

Simulation
I would compare GT3s cars to one of Forza's but unfornately, the Nissan Z was a concept and was different to the Nissan 350Z. So there aren't any cars in GT3 I can compare to Forza's except one. The Toyota GT-One. And again. Forza's felt like racing the real thing. You see, to me, after driving a R390 and then a GT-One in GT3, they actually....felt like driving the same car, one with just more power.
Forza's felt way different. The customization part. Yes! You feel a difference. All the game gives you is an Exterior upgrade, and you will tell the difference in racing from just a Body kit, and Spoiler.

So this is how the overview goes:
Graphics-GT3 wins this one in realism, but Forza gets it in Plain Racer Friendly.
AI-Forza definately takes the win on this one. They won't smack into you.
Sim: Forza. Forza's felt alot different. And realer.

A difference in Braking!?
Yes. There is a big difference now. In GT3, you could hold the brake all the way down, and of course, you wouldn't see the wheels lock up. Not HERE buddy!
Forza's requires TAPPING people. Not, hold the brake down and watch the car slow down. You either hold brake down halfway or tap it. Braking is where I noticed the BIGGEST change from GT3. This is requires thinking on where you brake. You tap to fast, and you'll come into the corner too slow. Racers will take this to their advantage, and go around you.
Braking here is going to take a bit of time to master after playing GT3 to much.

Closing Statement:
Forza did what people did not expect it to do. It absolutely blows GT3 out of the water. Even the View that look like GT3's Front View has 2 views. One like GT3's and one resembling inside a car. You can tell the difference, as the car doesn't sound as loud, and other cars are louder. Engine sounds are matched perfectly, and this game reminds me so much of GTR's demo.

This game has truely stolen the racing part in my heart. It IS a Must BUY or Die (j/p) title for the Racing Lover! As far as I'm concerned, there doesn't look to be anything that needs improving on from just the demo.

All it needs now is....an Official Forza Wheel.

Yeah, I did. It took about 15 minutes of trial and error. The worst was finding the final button because I had to enter the 14 presses and then try a button. Didn't work, 14 presses, try another button. When I ran out of joypad directions and the regular buttons, I finally tried the Back button(they don't usually use that one in their codes).

But how did you know the first 14 presses were right??

I'm confused.

And Forza sounds ace, but a this-gen Xbox title vs a 3-year old PS2 title would want to be pretty freakin shit hot.

The controller shakes each time you press the good button.

If you want to see how the game plays without any of the helps, I did a 13 minutes video of the demo. In the beginning it's me with the drivings helps trying to play correctly (and of course failing miserably) but the last minute or so I disable everything and well... can't take one turn correctly.
So watch me suck at Forza there : http://www.xboxyde.com/leech_1013_en.html

Strangely I'm still having fun, even if I just can't seem to make one correct lap.

Wow, thanks Blimblim. The handling seems pretty good( a lot like GT4 ). If MS can get out a TFF wheel for this then it would be a real GT killer. Framerate is kind of ...tolerable. ;) I dont know how I am going to stand playing a sim with a controler. But I am impressed.

Yeah for some reason the 30 fps framerate is much less noticeable than in PGR2. I think it's simply because the cars respond perfectly to the controler, and behave like you'd expect a car to behave in real world.
Of course it could simply be the lack of stuff on the side of the track.
