Back out and go back in and it should update. It does do this every once in a while. My Wife's system was DL ESO update and it was stuck at 3% I then hit pause install and restarted and it was done. Sometimes it updates, sometimes it says installing without showing a percentage.

BTW...How does the new controller feel? I love it. The grip on the underside is really nice.

The controller feels really nice, but I don't have the original xbone controller to compare it to. Thanks for the tip, I knew it should have percentage shown. Not sure if I'll start the game tonight before it's fully downloaded.

Am I the only not using mods in career? I'd rather just upgrade and tune my cars and drive them without any "artificial" enhancers. I finally clicked with the RWD physics last night in the 599 GTO(S750) on Hockenheimring, it was one of those moments you wish there was another 10 laps in the race because it feels so good. I was struggling with some high-powered RWD cars like the 458 Speciale, it was actually frustrating the shit out of me on some tracks.
I think I've just realised some cars are simply not that great, even when tuned up.

I love the replay camera angles at Hockenheimring too, it's great watching a field of loud supercars blasting around the track. The fly-by section after the first 3 corners sounds awesome.

I didn't want to be that guy, but where the hell are the DLC preorder cars I redeemed? I see them in the purchased a field but I can't seem to find them in my cars.

Wheels are so expensive these days. What is the best starter-midrange wheel? Is the thrustmaster 458 spider the best wheel for under $200?

I'm using the 458 Spider. It does lack the FFB which, depending on how serious you want to get, is a let-down, but for the price, I think it's hard to beat.

The wheel feels good, but the pedals are a little plasticky. But again, for the price, it's a bargain. I found mine for around 90$, and it was worth every penny!

I was thinking of picking up an elite controller one day, but seeing as the forza bundle doesn't include it, i guess racers might not benefit from it.

Bought the Gears bundle on labor day to get the two free games with it. Went in yesterday and exchanged the console for my Forza bundle preorder. So I got Forza bundle + The Witcher 3 + AssCreed Unity all for $399. Sweet!

Obligatory:

Oh, and the improved shoulder buttons on these controllers are a god-send. I'm already thrilled, although I'm getting that elite controller next month anyway.

The triggers on the standard Xbox One controller are really awesome for racing games, so you don't really need an Elite controller for them.

Yeah I wish they had the stock one as well. Still, the F&F sounds amazing and is a blast to drive, did some hotlapping at Limerock with it and it didn't disappoint!

I'll give it a go then, must confess, I looked at it, saw "F&F", scoffed and picked something else.

The cockpit view is fantastic (especially with the awesome windshield rain effects) but two things are spoiling the experience for me: the ridiculous way the driver still removes his hand from the wheel to operate the shift paddle like he's just had an electric shock, and the 180 degree rotation limit to the wheel animation (which does kick in often on many tracks).

Full 900 degree wheel animation was obviously too big a task for the number of cars and different sized steering wheels in the game (although you'd think one generic animation with a hand tethering system would have been possible?) but the paddle shifting animation really does have amateur dramatic pantomime levels of over-acting. It's comical. No racing driver on the planet uses paddle shifters like that - they are designed to be operated as easily as possible without having to change hand position. The thumb shouldn't be moving position at all.

The game is still a lot of fun though. In true FM style it just has a few odd niggles and curious design decisions.

The lack of ANY adjustablity in the cockpit view completely kills it for me, in most cars.

In the Ferrari F12 it looks like my driver has 6ft long arms.

Agreed, also an adjustable FOV slider or at least a few different FOV preset options would be nice to see.

Talking about deadzones, using the telemetry display, 100% braking comes with about 5mm of trigger travel remaining, and no matter what I change, I can't get it to show 100% at the end of the trigger travel.

Anyone else get this?

I'm pretty much using defaults as I play this at a mate's house at the moment. Still trying to justify the purchase.

that's what i mean, there's a hefty amount of nothing happening at the beginning and end of the trigger throw, its unclear if that's just a hardware issue, or if it's the games themselves that have a built in buffer.

It's not something i notice when driving really, but that's one of the things I'm curious about when it comes to the elite controllers triggers.

Has anyone else noticed that you can have playlists of events in free play now?

What would be awesome is if they fleshed the free-play mode out a little more, to cater for people looking for a more hardcore experience.

Firstly, let us be able to chose the division of cars so we can have a more authentic grid of race cars or similar road cars. Then, let us set up the playlist so we can chose how many races there are, how many laps there are for each race etc. They could add in a championship scoring system as an option, as well as qualifying, and an adjustable level of fuel/tire wear and you could setup and run your own little championship series for all of the diverse race series that FM6 has to offer.

Could be a good way to satisfy the more hardcore racing sim crowd without getting in the way of career perhaps?

That sounds far too obvious and far too sensible.

Ooooo, no, I haven't, you've piqued my interest.......explain more!!

Well there isn't really much more to explain unfortunately, other than you can pick one of the pre-made playlists from the career mode (like the Nightfall series) and you play out those series of events in Free-Play. You can also pick a random track. There doesn't seem to be an option to create your own playlist which seems odd, and hopefully they add that in cause it seems stupid to have it locked to only the career playlists.

That sounds far too obvious and far too sensible.

Haha well I hope that's where T10 look to take this free-play feature because they obviously don't want the hardcore experience to interfere with the career mode (hence why endurances are now optional showcase events) so why not let free-play cater to those people?

Friend just finished career with all achievements. The shortest of all Forza titles yet. They sure meant it when they said it would be less grindy.

How long did it take him?, by my reckoning there are at least 225 races in career alone, let alone all the showcases which include endurance races.

I reckon the "One for the history books" achievement would take probably a few hundred hours of grinding.

Guys I need your guidance. Is paying around $500 for a Thrustmaster TX and stand worth it for this? I also own a PS4 (which isn't compatible with that wheel). I know money is relative, and I have enough in my savings to pull some out for this setup... but is it truly worth it? I've never had a wheel setup, is it a game changer?

I'm gonna second this and say that the wheel is a good Entry-Point Wheel for someone I dub a "Semi-Hardcore" Racing Fan. I mean while I play with all Assists On, i'm having a blast with the Wheel and it brings the game to life!

And yes, the pedals are a bit crappy.

I've been using some of the dare and boost mods, just adds something extra to the game, although I don't bother with crew mods at all.

I use the No Racing Line Dare for 15% Extra CR, Crew Mod for Extra Grip and just pick any Boost Mod to waste them really.

Well going by the standard of 225 Races and 10 mins per race, i'd say you are looking at 37.5 Hours of Racing just for Career. Of course, I rewind alot and things, so i'd say 50 Hours it would take me MAX.

And the Showcases i'd wager would be the same maybe because the Endurance Races are probably evened out by some things such as Bowling.

so maybe 100+ depending on how quickly you can blast through it, and taking into account loading times etc.

WAIT! If you are overall thinking that there are:

- 5 Races per Car Championship.
- 6 Car Championships Per Series.
- 15 Series.

...you are looking at 450 Races...or 70+ Hours of Racing in Career.

I simplify my time by acting like each Championship is 1 hour though and 15x6 = 90, so I expect 90+ Hours on Career for myself.

G920 is $100 more then the TX.
I've seen the G920 for 350€ and thought it was the standard price. The prices for the TX are all over the place. I bought mine for 240€ in june last year, but I've seen the wheel for 420€ a week after Project CARS was out.

Sorry for getting the msrp wrong.

No, when I said classics I meant like a 71 Skyline, Ferrari F40, Fulvia, 64 Aston Martin DBS, 69 Charger, 595 esseesse, Escort RS1800, De Luxe Coupe, 74 Stratos, 64 Impala, Datsun 510, Mini Cooper & Beetle etc. The newest things I'd consider classics are probably 92 NSX-R, 98 Impreza, 94 Celica, 99 Viper, 97 Skyline, etc. They'll long be remembered fondly for sure.
I can get behind that list.

Yeah, I miscalculated, 450 races!, grindsville!

Pretty Much! And since I have decided after today i'm just going to do 1 Championship a Day and 1 Showcase a Day, i'm looking at 75 Days of Forza! Right in time for Xenoblade Chronicles X!

Then i'll worry about getting 1,000 Gamerscore when they bring more DLC to do it with as things like "Earn Credits for Design" and "Start Last and Finish First in Multiplayer Lobby" can take a hike.

I'm just a student atm, but after I bought a Thrustmaster last year, a month later I bought a second one(!) for the other console because I just couldn't get back to driving with a controller anymore. It's really amazing.

Also, may I direct you here for some more impressions: http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1077836

I take back what I said about AI being good it's marginally better, they brake too soon and mercilessly ram into you even with limit aggression turned on.

Had to re-enable rewind on sebring night series because half my starts ended up by being pit maneuvered by the AI in the first two turns. Maybe all my drivatars have been LAPD cops.

It's the "brake in the middle of the apex, when in reality, you'd be accelerating" behaviour that grinds my gears

Man. The driving in this game feels good as shit. I skipped out on Forza 5 so the last FM game I played was 4. What an improvement in every single way.

Also, when I first played the demo I was underwhelmed by the graphics but now that I have raced more the game looks gorgeous.

Haha, yeah, I turned off aggression and in the race immediately following I was hard sideswiped by my own teammate in indy racing!

This too. Sometimes it's like you have to become super aggressive too just to get around these fools because they keep doing dumb shit like that and it prevents you from reaching the couple front cars that don't.

There are definitely the downsides to driveatars, but ah well, I've always gotten the most fun in racing games from time trials and the rolling rival ghosts is brilliant. Opponent "logic" issues would keep me from rating the game overall too high, though.

now that I have raced more the game looks gorgeous.
Prague is so pretty.
