Hmm.. I haven''t heard or seen anything of Fracture yet. I'm gonna try this when I arrive home from work.

Hmm, it's not too bad, actually. First off, on the menu screen, I can't believe how much the lead character looks like Shepard. :lol

For some reason I thought this was a sandbox game, but it's pretty much just a shooter. Plays very similar to Gears, but they're both 3rd person shooters so I guess that's to be expected.

Graphics are pretty good, looks like a UE3 game.

Being able to raise the ground to form cover is very cool, though, and can get you out of a couple of sticky situations.

It starts off with a tutorial showing some of the more powerful weapons, but on the actual level you don't get to use any of that kind of stuff. Demo just revolves around chasing someone, using the lower and raise ground tool, and that's pretty much it.

Is it just the tutorial section then? They didn't include the cool battles that happen after whathisname gets away? That's a bit disappointing. The game seemed very Halo in third person to me with the quick pacing.

Ah damnit, you made a thread already - and I didn't even see it till now - people were asking for one so I assumed that there wasn't any... I'll just re-post my impressions here also then:

Impressions:

The game has me pleasantly surprised - graphics are fine, framerate is locked at 30fps, zero tearing, and no big aliasing problems...

Anywhere there is dirt, you can aim at it and raise/lower the ground with RB/LB respectively... very nicely done so you can basically make your own cover for yourself or AI companions almost anywhere..

Weapons are pretty good and range from standard automatic and plasma rifles, to sticky grenade launchers and standard rocket launcher, my favorite is the other rocket launcher that travels underground that you can detonate whenever you want it to by hitting X... and the ending screen shows that there are even more types of guns like freezing guns...

There are also a variety of grenades as well, some that raise the ground slightly like you can, or some that create a huge pillar of molten lava to lift things...

Best of all, I love that the physics have weight to them as well - when you blow out a wall, the huge chunks will actually knock you back, and they stay there and won't fade away either... and explosions/lifting the ground send enemies flying as well...

All in all, it's a good demo...

P.S.: it has southpaw controls for those who want to know as well...

Wow sounds good! :D

I liked it. Pretty good visuals, some interesting weapons, nice use of terrain deformation for gameplay, well done destruction/physics, quality production values, solid control. Overall combat kinda feels a little bland at times but it's still decent.

I'll definantly give the full game a go. Wasn't expecting anything from this demo. These guys did a good job in terms of destruction and explosions with Mechassault on the original Xbox, so I can see some aspects from that carried over to Fracture. Overall the game seems like a decent title. Nothing that'll blow you away but there's some fun to be had. I could see some people really enjoying it.

Yeah, this was... not very good. Everything just screams "BOOOORRRRRIIINNG" at me, from the utterly uninspired graphical design to the wonky cutscenes and the gimmicky terrain changing feature. I'd rather play Gears of War a third time than spend any money on this. The only good thing about it was the awesome sound the main gun makes.

I remember when I made a rather extensive thread post on another forum about environments and landscapes in games a while back, and someone brought up fracture. I'm looking forward to see what the game has to offer in terms of depth.

Graphics are decent, UE3 at its worst with all its typical flaws..
The art direction is fucking UGLY, so generic and uninspired it hurts... Another lame bald space marine character, we definitely needed moar...
Moreover i'm not feeling the whole East vs West setting at all, and given the great emphasis the game places on the interaction with the ground i would have probably preferred a fantasy/alien setting.
Gameplay is overall decent, even if the game shines in the available weapons: some of them are really awesome (ground torpedoes FTW!) and very creative to use, making Fracture unique from this point of view...
It could be a perfect rental, but i'm not paying 65 euros for a game like this.

this will be one of those games that will cost 30€ a few weeks after the release. especially with all the other games coming in october.

and the flaws are the same as well :)
Nope, it doesn't look remotely like UE3. Art style is similar to the average UE3 game maybe, but otherwise I don't see much in common...

To me -and to others in this thread- it actually does Blim. :D

i really like it.

the art design looks like a good mix between halo and mass effect (i like it).
the terrain stuff is cool and is well implemented,
controls are fine and work, graphics are good and the most important: its fun.
its way better then the force unleashed demo and much more fun.

i really love the torpedo weapon, could be awesome in multiplayer.

i expected a total clusterfuck and now the game is on my must-buy list...(just like pure)

I thought the demo was really interesting, and pretty fun. The underground rocket launcher? Cool! Terrain deformation was used really well, and the while graphics looked excellent I was most suprised to see that the framerate held up.

I understand peoples concerns with the art direction, it is a bit generic, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

The multiplayer side (I assume it has one) could turn out to be a load of fun.

it has a mp. this could be really awesome, especially since you can create cover on the fly.

What makes it remind you of UE3, the bald space dudes? Other than that it doesn't.
nope, the general vibe i get from it...
It doesn't feel that far from say Mass Effect IMHO (even if Mass Effect is all over awesome and features insanely rad facial expressions).

Aside from athe absolutely putrid character design, and horrendous story segments...the game is actually quite fun. Had a blast playing the demo. Great physics and destruction; the game just has a nice feel to it. Definitely a solid rental, IMO.

Wow I actually really liked this. Really enjoyable game. Great weapons, great action, and I love the whole terraforming stuff. I'm curious about the multiplayer.

My exact impressions. This kind of caught me by surprise in the fact that I dug the demo so much. Being in a crowded month this game wont be a day 1 but it surely is going to the top of my gamefly list.

That terrain stuff actually looks like it could add some really interesting puzzles etc. I can't wait to give it a try. The character design is incredibly generic, but I can deal with that. What's up with wearing a bright red suit into battle? Good camo dude. Maybe his suit absorbs bullets to make it stronger? Otherwise, I don't get why anyone would wear a bright red suit into enemy territory. :lol

Outside of his poor sense of fashion (McDonalds) he seems like a nice enough dude.

ok, i take the idiot back. was a hard day and this guy was just to much for me. at least he likes his game.

Everything felt too scripted to me. There were always these HUD arrows pointing to where you needed to raise and lower the ground.

Shooting felt very weak compared to most games. Cover didn't seem to be too important, and I actually had more fun raising and lowering the ground beneath enemies even though it didn't do much to them.

The only really cool part in the game to me was where you destroyed the roof so you could look down on a fight going on and make cover for your allies and shoot the the guys who were pinning them down. But even that was scripted. I had to do that to progress it didn't allow me to run down to a door and enter the building normally and just have a shootout with the enemies.

I was hoping for fully destructable everything... buildings, towers. I think as a sandbox game the terrain modification would be pretty neat. If you could just merge this game with mercenaries then that would be pretty interesting.

For a game that offers such an interesting and flexible mechanic it felt like I wasn't being given any real choices on how to use it. There was one way to use it and that was that.

Worth a try, might be some people's cup of tea.

Just tried it from the PSN. Hmm. Has a lot of potential - the terrain deformation is great. Main character moves way too slow though. Gfx aren't great and there isn't that much going on.

But the rest of it feels a bit cheap. When the demo finishes they flash up some inane comment about "discover Colonel Sheridan's dark secret" or some such nonsense. Bleugh. The walk-through was a bit crappy and I'm worried the terrain stuff will dictate the flow of the game.

If they can work the terrain stuff into a multiplayer game I'd be all over it. It might take a bit of work though (so that people aren't randomly messing around and have mounds and craters appearing all over the place).

i actually think its tgreat.. a third person shooter, that admittedlty borrows a bunch from gears of war, but with the terrain guns, its also a bit of a thinking mans game too, which is up my alley

also i was surprised that on the huge environment reactions the frame rate did not drop that badly

on the other hand i did expect the terrain deform to be a lot more freetykle like you could change anything, but i gues there has to be SOME rules heh.. hopefully the full game will be much freer later on in levels

When I first saw this game, it looked boring and the terrain deformation sounded like a gimmick. I was actually pleasantly surprised. It's kinda like gears with the fast-paced-ness of Halo. Nice framerate. Graphics look pretty good too.

Just played the PSN demo also. Total meh. Graphics are horrible (just look at the horrid looking textures and overly use of bloom,) and cutscenes are garbage. Art design is horrible. Like a poster said above, wtf is this guy doing wearing a bright red suit in battle? Also why does he have to be bald. Poor design decision. Controls are ok atleast, but the bright neon colored markers that shows where to use your terrain deformation weapons are dumb. Enemies and your NPC buddies are all generically designed and have no life to them. Sound effects are ok, and voice acting seems allright. Weapons are ugly looking and feels weak. One part of the tutorial has your character blowing up a side of a building. But you cannot blow up no other buildings and environments for the rest of the demo. Yuck.
